Really poor from Marca that. Wouldn’t it be nice now if Harry came out and said he would never join that lot after this?

Goatistuta, welcome to the site! I’m a Utd fan and you can read my thoughts further up. I wouldn’t say I’m fine with it, certainly not of the “tactical masterclass” variety Chucky refers to above. As I said in my earlier post, I don’t particularly like it but I’m more than prepared to put up with a couple of those a season if, and it’s a big if, it delivers trophies in the end. If it doesn’t lead to trophies, then it’s just not acceptable. It’s easy to say that we shouldn’t accept those performances but we can’t just start sacking managers because of a couple of performances which lacked ambition. We’re the second highest scorers in the league so we do make up for it in our home games.
The home game against Spurs is not the kind of game where José has ever previously parked the bus so I just can’t see him starting to do so now. The game away at Chelsea though is likely to be a similar game to yesterday. I’d absolutely take a draw now in the Chelsea game given the chance, especially after how convincingly they beat us there last season. Not many sides will be coming away from Chelsea with 3 points. City the obvious exception!

Jim, yeah there aren’t many Utd fans on the site at the moment. Hopefully we can attract more of all clubs’ fans in the near future. It sometimes just takes a couple coming over from whatever forum they usually post on and the rest follow

I really don’t think so Jim. Mourinho’s bus tends to make an appearance 2/3 times a season but it’s generally in away games against the other big sides. The Utd City game at Old Trafford last season was quite an open game in contrast to yesterday, as was the Utd Liverpool game at Old Trafford.
It’s obviously frustrating but you only have to look at how Liverpool were picked apart by City for being too ambitious away from home. Fergie was a master at stifling games when the need arose, such as when he famously had Park man mark Pirlo out of a game simply to stop the opposition playing. José takes it to the extreme though a couple of times a season but it’s a small price to pay if it does lead to trophies. Otherwise, the means won’t justify the end and he will be gone. So, I’m not overly concerned for now. It’s what he’s done throughout his career, and few would argue with his record. His Madrid side also still holds the record for the most goals scored in a season which is hardly the sign of a defensive coach.
So to summarise, I wish he didn’t do it but it’s something I’m happy to live with a couple of times a season as long as it leads to trophies.

9,as good as City look, I just think it’s far too early to write anyone in or out of the title race (except maybe Arsenal!). I still fancy Chelsea to be up there challenging. City will slip up at some point. It’s just up to the rest to keep plugging away to ensure they’re ready to capitalise on any slip up.
As good as City were today, they’re still only 2 points ahead off Utd and 5 off Spurs. All still to play for.

Just want to keep this thread alive too so we don’t take over the Liverpool thread with all PL games!
No surprises for me in the Liverpool Utd game. Thankfully, it’s only 2/3 games a season but these games where José goes out with no intention of winning a game are horrible for the neutral and not much better for us fans either! Utd were very poor on the ball today and need to be much better.
City just look unstoppable at the moment and I just don’t think we’re ready to challenge them yet, although I don’t think we’ll be far off come the end of the season. I did think Chelsea might be up to challenging them too but they’ve already got some catching up to do.

Haha just spotted the mistake Jim. Bloody autocorrect! Morocco/Modric, same thing

Interesting rumour this morning in the gossip columns re Kane. Apparently Real are prepared to offer Benzema, Bale and Modric to get their man. As good as Kane is, when would Spurs ever get the chance to sign 3 players of that calibre again? I know it’s only a rumour but if I was Daniel Levy, I’d seriously have to consider that offer.

Haha, you’re probably right 999. Like you, I can’t see it happening at all. Even if Barca were to leave La Liga, which in itself is very unlikely, I would imagine they’re much more likely to join another league closer to home

Yeah I’m not too keen on Barca joining the PL. Could you imagine the fuss if they just joined the top league straight away, in turn denying a PL place to a side lower down the pyramid who have worked hard to earn that spot.
Putting all those problems aside, it would be a huge coup for the Premier League as a brand. The incredible growth in TV rights would go to another level entirely, which would be bad news for the rest of Europe. It could become a bit of a bidding war between the leagues due to the value they would bring to whichever league they joined. In fact, I could see the other big leagues coming together in some way to ensure it doesn’t happen.

Well we left that long enough. It’s not a good sign when your keeper gets man of the match in a home game you should be easily winning

I must admit, I’m not quite sure any more. To clarify, does this mean that the top four leagues get four spots (whoever that may be in the future) or does it mean that the leagues currently the fourth best will always have four spots? In other words, if the French league (for example) replaced one of the current top four, do they get the extra spot in place of the league who dropped out, or not?

Brian, I may well be falling into that trap. He’s probably not injured as often as I seem to think. Aguero is a marvellous player. For me, probably the most talented player in the league.
The only reason I mentioned his fitness record was that it was the only thing I could think of which ever so slightly, in my opinion, puts him behind the likes of Kane. If both were the same age and had the same luck with injuries, I’d pick Aguero every single time.

Couldn’t agree more Paxton. It’s about setting a precedent. They had plenty of time, as you say, to get the deal done and, whilst I understand their frustration, they will have to learn from it and move on.
P.S Sorry to hear you’ve had to post it twice. What was the problem? Did it just not register the post first time round?

Top 10 attached as a pic. It’s quite close between 2nd, 3rd and 4th but Spain don’t look like letting go of that top spot any time soon!

4th October 2017 at 6:58 am in reply to: Poll- Who will be the next Premier League Manager to go? #5783Oz, I really can’t see Utd winning at Anfield. José keeps it very tight away to the other big sides and we’ll struggle with your press. Utd definitely have the players to cause Liverpool problems but I think we’ll see a cautious Utd side. Wouldn’t surprise me at all if it ended 0-0. It’s the José way. Bully all the small sides and and always go for the win at home but make sure you don’t lose away to your rivals.

The leader of Catalonia has now come out and said they will declare independence this week or next week while the King of Spain even chipped in on behalf of Spain. It feels like this one is only just getting started as neither side is likely to change their stance any time soon

circa 90% in favour of independence from a circa 40% voter turnout. This one is likely to rumble on for a while. Let’s hope the problems we saw yesterday are as bad as it gets and any further protests/debates are peaceful ones. Would be a real shame to see this one escalate into further chaos
