I’m not even sure anymore whether or not Jose is evil enough to manage this lot. Sure, he’s annoying, but he’s quite harmless compared to a lot of these. Would Big Ron Atkinson be worth a shout? Surely, his comments on Desailly are worse than anything Jose has ever done?

Liverpool fans despised Neville didn’t they? Could we squeeze him in at RB? Fellaini next to Keane? Beckham would have been in with a shout after the red against Argentina but I think his reputation recovered a bit after that. Saying that, with all the things about him being desperate for a knighthood and those nasty emails recently, could that do it? Lee Bowyer possibly if we’re looking beyond the teams of posters on here…

How about Diouf for your lot? He was horrible but then I don’t think Liverpool fans particularly liked him either which may disqualify him. I’ll need to have a think but from my own team, the first names which spring to mind are:
– Giggs. Legendary player. Despicable person.
– Keane. Deliberately set out to injure Haaland, amongst others no doubt. Again, brilliant player but horrible person.
– José probably has to get the manager’s job for this team. For me, with the obvious exception of the eye gouge, no single incidents stand out. Just a long list of recurring annoyances. Some tough choices for the striker positions with the ones Hightown mentioned plus Diouf, Costa etc

@Goatistuta & @Brian blue, always nice to hear positive feedback. I really hope to see the site grow and I’ll certainly do everything I can to ensure the trolls are kept away. I’m very open to considering any changes people feel would benefit the site, too, so don’t hesitate to feed back anything you feel can be improved upon.
For example, as the site grows, we might eventually need to separate the club sites more so that fans of each club are free to discuss club-specific topics away from the main part of the site. Currently, I think the current setup works quite well as it encourages more debate amongst opposition fans.
As for José, I’ll never take offence to anyone criticising him. He is a tool in my eyes too. But, crucially, he’s our tool. Whilst I’d prefer a more pleasant man in charge, I’d only swap him for a more pleasant character if that person also had a record to match José. In other words, I’d take an unpleasant winner over a pleasant loser every single time. The moment he stops winning trophies is where the problem arises because there are then not enough positive factors to balance out the negatives.
A prime example to prove my point. Being a Utd fan, I can’t stand Suarez. The biting, the diving, the save on the line for Uruguay etc. However, I’d take him at Utd in a heartbeat because he’s an absolutely brilliant striker. I think we’ve all cheered for slightly questionable characters through the years because they happen to wear the colours of our club and we’re all likely to do it again in the future.
José does play too cautiously for my liking in the big games away from home but he’s also created some fantastic, high scoring sides through the years.

Not quite as impressive tonight from the PL teams but both still did enough to move a step closer to qualifying for the knockout stages. Job done!

Paxton, it was a very brave performance from Spurs and one which I think took a lot by surprise. I don’t think anyone expected to see both Llorente and Kane start. Credit to Poch for going for it

Lloris on fire tonight. Spurs certainly not shaming themselves tonight. Looking like a good night for all the PL clubs so far.

Disappointing pen to give away there from the Spurs defender. Spurs very much still in this one though

Well so much for Spurs parking the bus away to Real, going with both Kane And Llorente. Bit of a risk if you ask me. If it pays off, you’re lauded as a brave, attacking manager with no fear. If you get hammered, it’s tactical naivety for giving away too much space in the middle of the park. Good luck to all the PL teams tonight!

Yeah that’s an important point I’d overlooked Hightown!

Fair points Hightown. For me though, and seemingly for José too, Liverpool away for us is, in many ways, as hard a game as either of the ones I mentioned above. On paper, we have a more expensive squad and probably more match winners but this is probably the one game where form means nothing. Leaving Anfield with a defeat is much more unacceptable than playing defensively.
In all honesty, José probably did pay Liverpool a bit too much respect. But Liverpool raise their game for Utd more than any other game and the home crowd is a massive asset. My point is that I think we’d all agree there are certain games where we’d all rather our clubs sacrificed an attacking style of play and settle for a point. We just disagree on where those boundaries go.

Genuine question for the Liverpool fans on here.
If you could have gone to City and played the way Utd did and come away with a point, would you have been dissatisfied with that?
Equally, Spurs fans, if you went to Madrid and played the same way but came away with a point, would you accept that?
No hidden agenda behind these questions. I’m just trying to gauge to what extent fans are willing to overlook the style of play in a one-off game if it means getting a result you’re happy with. I know people will say Utd should be beating this Liverpool side whereas the above examples are both not expected to get anything, but try to ignore that point for now.

Yeah it’s a shame everyone’s on different number of matches but hopefully the avg points column helps a bit with that. I keep trying to figure out how to display a league table for a given week of fixtures which would be good to show alongside the total league table. I haven’t figured it out yet but I’ll get there eventually!
