He walks into your midfield Rover. I get you think he was too expensive but he’d easily improve Chelsea

Yeah there’s zero chance this signing gets Liverpool the league over Abu Dhabi but, for me, it puts them right up there as challengers with Arsenal for that 2nd spot and leaves everyone else fighting for 4th. It’s a good season to get what looks like 5 CL spots for the rest of us anyway.

Would be an insane signing. Why, though, did they pull out of the Bellingham deal when that was cheaper? Don’t want to hear Klopp moaning ever again about these big transfer fees π

Utd almost had Caicedo for Β£5mil 3 years ago π
Manchester United are in direct contact with the agents of Moises Caicedo (Indep. del Valle).
The agreement on personal terms [5 years] wonβt be a problem. β¬5m price tag.#MUFC βcontrolβ the situation by weeks and will decide soon wether to complete the deal or not. π΄πͺπ¨

What’s another Β£100mil to Chelsea though Rover? It’ll be spread over 30 years or something π
I saw that Mikus and instantly thought of De Gea. I’d be really happy for him to go there and win something. Maybe even cement his place there so Courtois doesn’t get back in. A solid keeper who just didn’t suit the new manager. Most clean sheets in the toughest league in the world last season.

If Chelsea end the window with a midfield three of Enzo, Caicedo and Lavia, that’s some midfield they’d have there. They’re a top striker away from being a real threat to other teams chasing top 4.

What message does that send to Lavia though if true?
Liverpool: “Sorry mate, we can’t afford the extra Β£4mil for you”
Also Liverpool: “Hi, is that Brighton? We’d like to make a bid for your Β£90-100mil rated midfielder Moises Caicedo”

10th August 2023 at 12:25 pm in reply to: Kick Off 2023-24 Gameweek 1 – Weekend Action – it’s back! #208060All last season we were cursed when it came to facing teams who had just sacked their manager and who were having the new manager bounce. I didn’t think it would be possible to continue that curse in the very first game of the season π. Fully expecting Wolves to play like prime Barcelona against us! We should win anyway but no idea why we always seem to face newly appointed managers after sackings.

“Whatever you decide…” you sure you mean that Ally? What if he goes to Chelsea in 12 months time? π

This explains everything π
Understand Liverpool have outbid Chelsea for Moises Caicedo which would also help explain Chelseaβs bid for Lavia. Suggestion however remains that Caicedo would prefer Chelsea move. More to follow #cfc #lfc

Fair point Sean also re “cleared” vs “charges dropped”. I know some media went with the “cleared of all charges” headlines but you’re right that there is a difference.

Nil, be disgusted all you want about the Suarez connection but the point (which remains) is that Liverpool stuck by him because he’s very good despite being proven to have been racist to Evra. Same goes for John Terry. Same goes for Lloris who was done for drink driving. Same goes for Zouma. I’m not comparing their actions. Partey another. I’m making the point that clubs and fans tend not to act how they probably should and would act if the player is good enough despite their actions probably justifying being sacked. As Sean says, fans are fickle and they’ll soon forget what he did. Partey played all last season with nothing more than a few boos. Cheered every week by Arsenal fans. I don’t like it and would sack him if it was my choice.

Nobody to blame but your own club who have had all the time in the world to get this one done, Nil.

Part of me completely agrees with you Sean. Another part of me thinks Utd have done the right thing so far. They’ve allowed the courts to do their job. He’s been cleared of all charges. They’ve clearly not taken any decision lightly and are conducting their own very thorough investigation. He now has a baby with this girl. So, the girl and seemingly her family have forgiven him. Should Utd sack him anyway? If he was rubbish, he’d have been sacked straight away. Utd see him as a potential Β£100mil asset and that’s a huge call to make. I would have liked us to have sacked him but I want to hear the full story first and the result of the internal investigation. It’s going to massively derail our season if he comes back I think.

It’s a strange one. I can understand the willingness to not be seen as a team who overpays and how that public stance helps in future negotiations but the margins are so small now that Liverpool run a real risk of going into this season severely understrength unless they have someone else up their sleeve. There’s no trophy for being the most sensible transfer negotiators. As Carra said on the overlap, they got very good fees for Fabinho and Henderson, considering their decline last season. They received fees which were over the odds, so go out and spend a bit more than you normally would have, knowing you received more than you probably should have.

Oh I don’t think it’s worth it either Sean. But I’m just not surprised if that’s what happens. Look at Partey though. That soon died down. I’m sure Greenwood will get a much rougher ride than Partey anyway. Still, I’m pleased that Utd acted swiftly in suspending him and, by all acounts, they’re doing a thorough investigation including speaking to the women’s team. sponsors, fan groups etc. No doubt they’ve spoken to Greenwood and his missus in depth, too. Partey was allowed to just carry on playing with Arteta even bemoaning what a tough time Partey had been going through. The way both clubs have dealt with the situations this far are worlds apart.

Ouch that Lavia one would hurt Liverpool. I thought we might nip in for him actually. We’ve followed him all season but he’s just out of our reach price wise at the moment seemingly. Nobody is likely to be able to compete with Chelsea for him.
