I think so Lucky. I think the plan was that Mount would basically replace Eriksen next to Case but push up as an extra 10 depending on opposition and flow of the game. Ten Hag has experimented a lot last season with this 3-1-6 which he used at times at Ajax which would see Mount as one of the 6 attacking players. We played with quite a few different formations last season. Mount’s versatility (as well as his energy) is a big part of the reason he wanted him I suppose.

14th August 2023 at 10:44 pm in reply to: Kick Off 2023-24 Gameweek 1 – Weekend Action – it’s back! #208378Eriksen won’t be starting many games Lucky. He showed last season that his legs have gone and won’t be playing 90mins regularly. Certainly not alongside Casemiro in the middle where we need more energy. I think he’ll come in for Bruno when Bruno needs a rest. Would not surprise me to see some variation of what you suggest but with a different midfielder alongside Case. Amrabat possibly? Although, Mount won’t go on the left I don’t think simply because Rashford is at his best there. Rashford can’t play as the 9, hence the need for Hojlund.

14th August 2023 at 10:27 pm in reply to: Kick Off 2023-24 Gameweek 1 – Weekend Action – it’s back! #208376Yeah I’m not convinced by Pavard Lucky. We’ve been burnt by buying Bayern’s castoffs previously in Hargreaves and Schweinsteiger.
Mikus, that’s it 😄. Going to Spurs at the weekend is not an ideal match to get back on track.

He’s one of those, a bit like Jordan Henderson, IMO where top managers seem to rate him but he often divides opinion amongst the fans. Clearly, Arteta, Klopp and Ten Hag all wanting him means there’s a top player there. Very early days anyway. I won’t be judging us just yet.

Never rated him at Chelsea and I didn’t understand why we signed him. Too early really to judge but I hope I’m wrong. A lot of top managers seem to rate him so I hope I’m proven wrong.

You can’t say Chelsea weren’t in the equation Sean. They tried to sign him from Southampton last summer, in fairness. I’m sure they’ve been tracking him for a long time. That’s not to say it’s not an embarrassing turn of events for Liverpool but this isn’t a case of Chelsea just taking players to stop Liverpool getting their hands on them as it seems to sometimes be made out.

Well that was that!
🚨 Romeo Lavia has chosen to join Chelsea from Southampton. Liverpool were pursuing but are aware of decision. #CFC & #SaintsFC have good relations, so no issues expected on deal or personal terms. Fee likely to be around £50m + add-ons @TheAthleticFC #LFC https://t.co/EjmFknCViS

Over to you Chelsea 😄. Poor Klopp will be absolutely fuming if Chelsea get Lavia too!

Yeah I think so too Lucky. Not sure Uefa would be all that pleased as it would signify a real power shift. For the fans, though, it could be great.

Neymar going there at 31 is rather significant though. He may not be likeable but that’s a very big and very good player going there at an age where he is still at the top of his game. Something tells me the World Club Cup is going to grow into a much more significant competition in the coming years. Historically it’s been a bit of a nothing competition but with the emergence of the Saudi league and the likes of Messi going to the MLS, it could eventually rival the CL.

13th August 2023 at 7:03 pm in reply to: Kick Off 2023-24 Gameweek 1 – Weekend Action – it’s back! #208250The fact Rodri is so good really makes me wonder why City were bidding for Rice. That was one transfer I didn’t understand. They already paid £50mil for Kalvin Phillips to sit on the bench. Was he going to be another bench warmer for them?
Haven’t seen any of the games today but sounds like a draw was a fair result at the Bridge. Can’t make either of those teams out yet. Liverpool were a shambles at the back at times last season and you’d expect them to have improved there and Chelsea have tons of talent but it remains to be seen that Poch is capable of competing for trophies in a league like the PL.

I have no idea how they manage it Sean. According to the below article, they’ve spent £750 million already under Boehly and that could approach a billion by the time Lavia and Caicedo are done. A billion in the short time they’ve been there is incredible and I have no idea how they do it. Them and City seem to not have to worry about FFP for some reason.

So true Mikus. Lavia likely won’t feel so wanted by Liverpool now they’re coming back for him after this either.
Ally, that’s a shame to hear from a Spurs fan perspective. He’ll be a real miss from the league.

Wow, that’s mightily embarrassing for Liverpool. How do you get to the point of making a PL record transfer bid without knowing the player wants to join?

Whoever he (Caicedo) goes to, if De Zerbi can get Brighton challenging for top 4 again despite losing Mac Allister and Caicedo, he is an absolute genius and will be very much in demand.

Incredible stuff
Chelsea this morning asked Moises Caicedo to wait as they explore a way of hijacking Liverpool's own hijack. Caicedo hasn't travelled for a medical yet. #LFC have a £111m deal agreed with Brighton, but #CFC actively exploring options. One of the craziest stories of any window.🇪🇨 pic.twitter.com/Y7prHVizx3
