I think Ange will fit right in at Spurs! 1 cup match. 1 cup exit π

Yeah surprisingly rare that those big transfer fees are spent wisely, too. Thinking of the Bale money and the Grealish money mainly. No doubt Brighton will find some gems with the Caicedo/Mac Allister money, too

I thought it was soft Adlab. Rashford goes down way too easily there. Again, it’s confirmation bias at its finest to suggest it’s big club bias, as some do. I have no doubt it will be discussed all week again though, just as the Onana incident vs Wolves. If only the clear pen we should have got against Spurs got as much attention π.

It’s an interesting theory Lucky re them almost expecting a transfer ban. It wouldn’t really hurt them that much to be honest. They’ve bought so many players now that it’s just a survival of the fittest where they pick the ones who make it and sell the others. They’re set for years to come even with a potential ban.

I’m not sure where Swissramble wrote about it but the Swedishrumble referenced his point on Twitter recently
π¨ The @SwissRamble have confirmed our β scoop β from two weeks ago with a fresh forecast also showing that CFC is heading towards a record breach of the FFP provisions next summer!
A forecast is a forecast and the direct insight into a club like Chelsea is very limited, but⦠pic.twitter.com/MAvZPP8beH

The highest XG of any team since he came in? The most shots on target?
It brings back to prominence the whole subject of how important a manager is, which myself and Lucky have had discussions about before. Could you put another manager in at Brighton and expect the same results simply because the environment is set up for success? I genuinely don’t think you could. With that said, I don’t believe De Zerbi would quite have the impact he is having at any other club (albeit I still think he’d do a great job at most clubs). It’s a perfect mix of a perfect environment and a very capable manager.

These stats are incredible. I know I go on about De Zerbi a lot but I really think he’s in line for a top job if one comes up this season. That he can do what he’s doing despite Brighton continuing to lose their players every season just astonishes me. I know he’s fortunate to be at a club with Brighton’s almost unmatched ability to identify very good players for not much money, but he’s competing against some of the richest clubs in the world, often playing the likes of Danny Welbeck up top π

However, I wouldn’t write off a restructuring of the Club World Cup to make that more like an extended CL.

I don’t think there’s any chance whatsoever of a Saudi team joining the CL. It’s easy to say “but they’ll get paid load for letting them in”. Sure, but they’re diluting their own product because Uefa want the absolute best players in the world to want to play for Uefa clubs and that’s what makes the Uefa CL the best club competition in the world. You start diluting that by allowing others in from Saudi and MLS, for example, you’re losing what’s unique about staying in Europe and all of a sudden, Uefa won’t be as powerful any longer. The very most would be a wildcard entry from another league but they’ll never get permanent access.

A resounding no to that last question. 100% they’d have reintegrated him. There is no scenario in which Utd fans would have kept quiet about this. I see Gerrard already wants him in Saudi π

Exactly Ed, and I want to say in all honesty how much I sympathise with you as a fan. It hasnβt been talked about, but as well as possibly ruining his own career he denied you the player he could have been for you, and there is nothing wrong with being gutted about that from a selfish pov either. I would be bud.
Itβs a damn shame, but nothing more utd or utd fans could have done to reach a better outcome
That’s exactly how I feel Lucky. I genuinely think he was one of the best young English forwards around and would have made that right sided forward spot his own for years to come. As you say, from a selfish pov, it almost feels wrong to say it but I am gutted, yes. On the other hand, having a daughter myself means I could have never enjoyed his presence in a Utd shirt ever again. I’m gutted it ever happened rather than being gutted of the outcome, to clarify.

Yeah fair points Sean. I realise the cases are extremely different. I can only think Utd knew there was no way of him ever being found guilty, hence the original plan to reintegrate him.
Seemingly Utd have had a number of proposals for him already. He’ll either run his contract down or go for a minimal fee after a loan I’d imagine. Frustrating, to say the least, for Utd who not only have to pay a lot of money to replace him but get almost nothing for years and years of training and developing him. Still, the price of reintegrating him was always going to outweigh the loss of not getting anything for him.

It honestly shocks me how little everyone seems to know/care about the whole Partey thing. The Arsenal fans don’t seem to care at all.

Again, to clarify, not for a moment comparing kicking a cat to what Greenwood is alleged to have done. My point in those examples was to point to examples of players who were the subject of massive news stories where the whole world of football was outraged and boos followed them everywhere yet all of them simply carried on with their careers and nobody cared after a while.

He should not be employed by my club Lucky. Utd is too big a club for him to rebuild his career at, if indeed that’s what he’s able to do. At a club like Utd, everything is magnified and if he has any chance of continuing within football, he needs to go somewhere where there’s less pressure and scrutiny.
Sean, my point isn’t comparing those cases, it’s simply making the point that there was loads of outrage about all those cases but they all got on with their careers and nobody cares any longer. Who knows what Utd mean in their statement. They’re seemingly privy to some information that we’re not. As you say, the videos were clear as day. Yet here he is raising a baby with this girl. They spoke to the girl’s mother rather than directly to her. As someone with a daughter, I refuse to believe the mother will have covered for him. I just can’t grasp why any mother would protect him unless they know something we don’t. It’s all really odd. I’m just pleased Utd have listened to the fans and made the right decision, more so because we badly need him on the pitch.

They’re still paying him because, as you said, they have very little grounds to sack him. Of course they’ve had a decision to make. Considering we’re badly lacking a striker, it would have been very easy, considering their findings noted in the statement, to keep playing him and it would eventually go away. Remember the outrage at Zouma kicking a cat? Terry being racist? Partey? Tons of outrage at the beginning then people tend to get on with their lives, particularly here given the findings they refer to.

Right decision. Huge decision by the club, writing off a player with that kind of value. Sounds like fan sentiment caused them to do a u-turn. Well done Man Utd fans and well done Man Utd. Very intrigued to see who takes a gamble on him.

Didn’t Klopp famously not want Salah? Top coaches, which I still believe Ten Hag is, simply can’t do every job and where Utd lack compared to other top clubs is that we’ve gone from the board making all the decisions to the manager making all the decisions, which is a throwback to the Ferguson days and is a strategy which has become outdated. There is zero football knowledge above Ten Hag which means that, when the system eventually fails Ten Hag, he will be gone and we’ll be left with a Ten Hag team with nobody knowing what to do with it. Rinse and repeat.

Fortunate that Adlab. You’re quick to spot any decisions we get! Clear handball from thr Spurs player not given.
That I don’t agree with Mikus. We’ve done that in Di Maria, Falcao, Sanchez, Ronaldo. There’s no secret Ten Hag wanted Kane this summer and we’ve ended up overpaying for a young Danish striker who wasn’t really starting for Atalanta who is now expected to save our season. I said a long time ago that I wanted Ten Hag, but on the premise that his arrival coincided with that of a director of football. That we still have the suits making the decisions is bizarre and Ten Hag can’t be expected to be chief scout, head coach and the rest all rolled into one.

Shaw I really rate, Lucky, albeit he does have dips in form from time to time which he needs to cut out. RB is a massive problem but not one we’re able to fix this summer. Someone else said on twitter and it’s spot on. This Utd side who struggled to score goals last season went into this one without a fit striker. There’s something wrong there. I feel for Hojlund now coming in with this much pressure to carry. It’ll make or break him.
