You’ve mentioned that a few times but I never saw it. OK maybe one or two idiots on TT but there’s one who screams for Klopp and/or the “Yankees” to go after any game we’ve dropped points.
Yeah it definitely wasn’t the majority Threeps but with the amount of fans the likes of Liverpool have, you’re always going to get a wide range of opinions. It’s always nigh on impossible to gauge fans opinions amongst such a big fan base but as someone who reads a lot of forums and social media, I saw a lot who were wanting him gone. As usual, it tends to be the noisy minority and fans of a newer generation but Liverpool are no different to any other club in that there will always be a section of fans who crave instant success and failure to provide that results in a lot of moaning.

26th November 2023 at 9:37 pm in reply to: Weekend Football – Gameweek 13!!! – The Hard Slog Over :-) #211001Oh there’s zero risk of anyone getting carried away by this form thing. It’s more just an interesting observation than anything else, that a team who are playing as bad as we’ve been playing have the most points in the league over the last 5 games. A mere 2 points behind a Spurs side people were tipping for a title challenge and praising the manager for such a good start.
As you both say, we’ve not really beaten anyone of note. Things haven’t really gone our way in some of those big games. Had a stonewall pen turned down away at Spurs and Bruno misses a sitter. On another day we go in leading at half time then who knows. Similarly, at Arsenal, the finest of margins sees Garnacho’s late winner chalked off. City get the dodgiest of pens at OT. I’m not saying we go on to win all or any of those but on another day, the luck goes the other way. All I’m bothered about for now is that we’re picking up the points while we’re at this low point. I keep going back to Liverpool having that really awful spell (6 home defeats in a row) when Van Dijk got injured and how they stuck by Klopp despite lots of fans wanting him gone. I really think we have to do the same and give Ten Hag chance to turn it around.

26th November 2023 at 6:59 pm in reply to: Weekend Football – Gameweek 13!!! – The Hard Slog Over :-) #210994The fact Utd haven’t even got going and wen’re 2 behind Spurs and 4 & 5 behind Liverpool and City is insane. I’d take that all day long.

26th November 2023 at 6:57 pm in reply to: Weekend Football – Gameweek 13!!! – The Hard Slog Over :-) #210993Btw, did I hear the presenter on SS1 say United were the form team? Did anyone else hear it? If so, on what is it based?
Erm, form… 😄. It’s literally that simple. Before the game, Utd have the most points in the last 5 games. Agree with everything about Utd being poor at the moment. Really not sure what’s going on with us this season but we’re picking up the points and that’s all you can ask for when you’re not playing well.
Garnacho, just unreal. Mainoo will be a star. For all the money spent, Utd’s academy again proving to be one of the very best with those 2 stars in the most recent FA youth cup win.

24th November 2023 at 6:18 pm in reply to: Weekend Football – Gameweek 13!!! – The Hard Slog Over :-) #210908Didn’t realise Liverpool had such a poor record at the Etihad. Can’t see City dropping any points to be honest here. Never know what to think with us. Picking up points in the league ut unconvincingly. Just glad it’s back!
Liverpool have not won at Man City in the Premier League in over eight years 😮
And @robbiesavage8 is backing Man City to come out on top again – and continue their "unstoppable" run to the title 🏆https://t.co/Jae0dLAVU6 pic.twitter.com/g9lctsO0wp

The worrying trend here is that there is now enough of these types of clubs to block most of these initiatives in future also. There’s nowhere near enough to force change in their favour but they can at least block moves to limit their power.

21st November 2023 at 7:02 am in reply to: Internationals – European Championship Qualifying Games #210896I always feel like Foden is still spoken about like he’s still 18. He’s got bags of talent but I feel with both club and country, I’m always waiting for him to really nail down a place but he doesn’t seem to do so. Looking from the outside, it appears to me that neither Pep or Southgate seem to fully trust him in the biggest games. As you say Threeps, compared to Bellingham, he’s not even close for me. Very talented player nonetheless.

13th November 2023 at 12:37 pm in reply to: Internationals – European Championship Qualifying Games #210874I could generate some kind of interest if there was anything left to play for but with England now already through, it just feels so pointless. The players must feel the same

CM, yeah don’t disagree with that.
Sean, no worries mate 😁 I knew you weren’t being serious. Completely agree on the last paragraph

You and that injuries point Sean from about 4 years ago 😅. It’s only a personal gripe of mine that big teams use injuries as an excuse when they have so much bigger budgets than the other teams.
Yeah, as you say, big over reaction from the first 10 games for Liverpool. Similarly a big over reaction from last season where fans were calling for Klopp’s head. Liverpool are decent enough at the moment and should get top 4 as most predicted but no chance of chasing City.

At United, Ten Hag doesn’t have that luxury. You look at that side yesterday, how many players were his. 6 players were bought by the previous 3 manager. All 3 played a different brand of football to 1 another.
The big problem with this theory CM is that he doesn’t even play the players he bought. He hasn’t had it easy with injuries but that shouldn’t excuse some of the rubbish we’ve served up this season. As I’ve said before, if the likes of Martinez are so pivotal to how we play (which he is) then it’s up to him to ensure we have a contingency plan in place.

Yeah I think his transfer dealings will ultimately be his undoing Threeps.
Agree with you on the manager just sometimes being the right fit rather than there being a magic equation.
Thoughts on today’s games anyone? Liverpool should have too much for Brentford and surely City will be too good for this Chelsea side? Brighton and Villa should win easily.

I get where you’re coming from Mikus but have to disagree on the point that we’d be any better with any of those 3 in place currently albeit we’ll never know.
Agree fully re Mourinho though. He was my choice to take over from Ferguson and, like you, I think he’d have been a perfect choice back then.
Maverick, yeah massively anti Spurs, me 😁

Fair enough Nil 😁. Yeah, who knows. I think City will be too hard for any of us to catch for a good few years yet

As for Klopp, he was clearly a charismatic figure and great communicator who was bound to be successful here.
That’s kind of my point. He ticked that box but not all the others.
Ancelotti was very average at Napoli and didn’t set the world alight at Everton. Tuchel was sacked by Chelsea and is under pressure managing the only good side in a one team league. Enrique is doing OK but far from a dead cert to win the league title in another one team league with Nice breathing down his neck. All managers we should feel aggrieved to have missed out on. A year ago we were stupid for “missing out” on Conte who, incidentally, can’t get a job now. So, no, I’m not that fussed that we missed the boat on any of those 3 to be honest.

I know we’ve gone round and round with these manager debates Mikus but I just don’t think it’s as simple as you make out. Was Klopp any more used to managing big players than Ten Hag before he came to Liverpool? Far from it. Dare I say, Ange? Not him either. Pep is the only one really who was used to managing big name players.
Someone said Ancelotti the other day. He’s managing Real Madrid. Do people really expect us to go out and get Ancelotti? I’ve yet to hear another good suggestion for the fix to Utd’s problems that everyone seems to have. The checklist seems to be
– Charismatic
– Worked with big clubs
– Worked with big name players
– Won lots of trophies
– A good tactical mindThe only name I can come up with is Mourinho 😁. The point being, by all means point to other managers who excel in one of those but there’s absolutely nobody out there who is attainable and who ticks all the boxes. You simply have to make sacrifices and decide on priorities.
