I still feel Liverpool are so reliant on Salah doing well. Nunez and Gakpo aren’t good enough IMO.

Yeah I haven’t seen much of Liverpool this season Mikus but just assumed from the results and the little I’d seen that you were doing well again. Compared to City and Arsenal, I thought Liverpool looked way off it.

Wasn’t impressed by Liverpool to be honest. I know we’re rubbish at the moment but I expected more from Liverpool. Still some way behind the top sides for me.

Absolute joke of a red. Rubbish game. Nice to see some fiery tackles but Dalot getting sent off for correcting the ref’s wrong decision was laughable.

No idea how Ederson stayed on the pitch Sean. Very lucky boy.

That’s it Threeps. Absolutely dreading this game. Can’t see any way in which Utd get anything from it the way we’re playing. We can’t blame injuries. We’d have no chance with a fit squad anyway with this lot.

Arsenal v Brighton will be an interesting battle on Sunday Nil, as will Brentford v Villa. Saturday should be all straightforward home wins. Reckon I’ll turn ny tv off on Sunday after the earlier games π.

Awful from Utd. Needed a win and had 1 shot on target. Throw absolutely everything at them even if it means getting countered and losing 0-4. Nothing to lose. At this point, it’s hard to see how Ten Hag turns this around.
Liverpool games seem to have become a defining point in recent Utd managers’ careers, for good and bad. Mourinho and Ole both going not long after awful games against Liverpool and Ten Hag actually getting things turned around at home to Liverpool last season after a poor start. I can’t help but feel we’re in for another defining point this weekend for Ten hag and not for Ten Hag’s benefit this time.

9th December 2023 at 7:51 pm in reply to: Weekend Football – Gameweek 16 – Shocks and Surprises? #211286I reckon players are far too pampered these days for someone like Keane to work as he’d just have them all constantly upset and pissed off. Which, incidentally, is what I think is happening with Ten Hag. He’s as strict as they come and I do wonder if he’s just too strict for a bunch of those players who just can’t handle it. No idea what to make of us at the moment. It’s such a roller coaster being a Utd fan these days.
Another amazing result for Villa!

All absolutely spot on re Utd Sean. You need everyone to play with intensity for Ten Hag’s football to work. Without it, it can be disastrous. Against Newcastle, Rashford and Martial set the tone from the front. They just walked around leaving Newcastle with numerical advantages all over the pitch. Say what you want about Antony but he works his socks off and the difference in intensity against Chelsea was night and day.
Mak, Lucky pops on from time to time. Brian, I’m not sure. My hope is he just doesn’t have the time and that he was able to enjoy the treble win. It’s a bit concerning that it’s been such a long time since he posted though so it’s difficult to not fear the worst there.

Ah yeah Mak, I forgot about all that Caicedo/Lavia stuff. I was thinking solely about what the result does to the league. Fair enough.
It is quite odd that Utd are now level with Spurs considering the narrative around each side this season. It does make all that early hype around Ange look a bit silly though. Despite what Shiney thinks, I’ve nothing against Spurs and would have liked to see a new challenger up there. I just find it a bit pointless when the media go completely overboard after a few games, which is exactly what they did with Ange. I’m sure he’ll still do well, mind.

Yeah, again, good to see you back Mak.
Iβm pleased that Utd beat Chelsea. I donβt think a Liverpool fan needs to explain why heβd support his nemesis for one game?
This did make me curious though. Why would you want Utd to win that game? Chelsea are nowhere near Liverpool. We’re more of a threat to Liverpool’s top 4 ambitions than Chelsea are, surely? Granted. not much of a threat, but more than Chelsea these days.

I saw a graphic though in the week showing City’s stats with and without Rodri and there was quite a stark difference.

Really odd though to see a Pep side so dominated in such a way that Villa managed last night. Have yet to see the highlights so only going by the stats and text summaries, but it looked like the 1-0 very much flattered them. The fewest shots (2) City have ever had under Pep apparently and it’s very rare for City to “lose” on XG and the xg was Villa 2.4 vs 0.7 City.

Agree Sean. Good summary gjblues but there’s no way anyone’s writing City off. Arsenal are bottlers and Liverpool don’t have the squad. This is City’s title again. City still odds-on almost everywhere to retain the title.

Nice one Mikus. I’ll have a read in the morning.

That’s certainly the case this season Mikus. We had a very good home record against the top sides last season. It’s the big away games that have been the problem. Albeit we’ve struggled against a lot of teams this season, above or beneath us.

I was just about to write the same Threeps, minus the last part π. 3 points difference between the sides is crazy.

Why didn’t it work out for Emery at Arsenal?
