No idea what we’d do without Amad. He’s been so good since Amorim came in and begs the question about what the hell Ten Hag was doing not playing him

Ffs we’re going down 😅. Absolutely shite. Wish we could play Liverpool and Arsenal every week instead of these Southampton, Newcastle type of teams

Chucky, how highly do you prioritise the excitement and unpredictability a manager like Ange brings? I mean, would you rather have a Conte who is more likely to win something long term or a manager like Ange who is more likely to entertain?

Yeah fair points Mikus. Re Ange, I just think he’s not a very good manager in all honesty. I think he’s way out of his depth in the PL. The level he’s won trophies at is just not in any way comparable to the pressure cooker environment that is the PL.

Thing is Sean, I don’t think a blip is enough because there’s no decent competition chasing you this season. Arsenal are a shadow of the side of recent seasons. City are obviously way off it. That’s not Liverpool’s fault but they’re rightly taking advantage of it.

It does often make me wonder how big a factor environment is for a manager to succeed. Look at Spurs where both Nuno and Conte failed big time. Managers who are now both flying high in both the PL and Serie A. People say the same about the Utd job but none of the post Ferguson managers (who failed at Utd) have gone on to prove the club wrong. You can’t say that about Spurs where both of the above named managers have gone on to prove themselves (again) since leaving. The same applies for Everton where Marco Silva and Ancelotti both didn’t do great at Everton but then went on to prove themselves again afterwards.
What then does it take for a manager to succeed in a broken environment? Is it possible? Does it just require a complete reset?

Incredible to have got through at somewhere like the Emirates despite playing with 10 men for more than an hour. Such a good defensive performance and Bayindir, what a performance.

Yeah fair enough Threeps. I don’t watch you every week like you lot do. You deserve to be leading the table, no doubt about that. I’m not sure I’d be confident of you winning it if there were one or more decent challengers though. It seems all the usual challengers are off it this season. No better chance for you lot to take advantage and you’re doing exactly that.

Take that all day long. A better ball by Zirkzee and Maguire wins that at the end. Much improved performance by Utd but must come with consistency or it’s pointless. Have to say I’m somewhat underwhelmed by Liverpool as potential title winners. They’ll win it now without much of a challenge but I wasn’t blown away by them in all honesty.

Spot on Chucky re the Nordics and dealing with the snowfall. People laugh here when I tell them my school used to close in England when it snowed 😆

You’re never confident in any game full stop Sean 😆. Obviously anything can happen, theoretically, but it will be only ending one way today and that’s with a win for Liverpool. Right now I’d take a narrow defeat with an improved performance to give us something to build on.

Well congrats on the win lads 😅. Reckon I’ll be going offline completely for a few days after today. Could be brutal this one

Sean, I get things wrong. I’m not perfect. I’m sure you’ve been wrong about things in the past haven’t you? I know your default is to be negative about everything then it’s a bonus if you’re proved wrong but I just can’t do that. It’s our job as fans to be optimistic about our clubs albeit we have to be realistic too. I honestly don’t see the point in just being negative about everything and hoping to be proved wrong. That would be the end of football for me. I need some hope for it to be enjoyable. Of course you’re going to get fans saying someone’s been good and others disagreeing. There’s millions of fans supporting the same team. Do you think they’re all going to agree on everything all the time?

Sean, I don’t think I’ve been lauding average players at all. All I’ve ever done is question why you think I would write players off after a few weeks at the club. That would be madness and I’ll never do that. We’ve bought some awful players and plenty who I thought would do better than they have done. I’m convinced that a lot of these players are better than my club makes them appear. McTominay bossing Serie A a prime example. These players are poor but I don’t think they’re THIS bad. We’re just a mess and, like CM, I just feel detatched from the club and the game at the moment. Losses used to affect me. Now I’m just not that bothered any longer when we lose. It’s a long way back from here.

I think you’re downplaying his achievements in Portugal a bit Sean. He managed to break an almost 20 year wait for a league title for Sporting and won 2, not 1 title and was flying again this season towards a 3rd. That’s not to say you’re wrong about the job being too big for him. It may well be. I honestly don’t know what the problem is at my club any more. They’re just a shambles in every single department at the moment. I’d love to say stick with the manager no matter what but if we start genuinely nearing the bottom 3, there’ll be no alternative but to sack him. Then the cycle begins again.
The thing is, if they did sack him, what then? Ole until the summer then bring a new guy in? It’s just a mess where I see no light at the end of the tunnel.

Christ, how bad are Spurs? This is why I never buy into this hype that is created when they get these odd really good results like the City away one. They’re awful and fair play to Liverpool for exploiting it which we weren’t good enough to do.

Chucky you wrote this after Ipswich beat you at home 😂
67% vs 33%
552 passes vs 258
83% pass accuracy vs 66%
17 attempts vs 8
12 corners vs 2
10 fouls vs 19
0 points vs 3… 🙂Not going to say they were “lucky”, but the footballing Gods were smiling upon them!
Of course I’m not reading too much into the stats but a scoreline can deceive also in terms of reflecting a game. Obviously goals are the only thing that counts though

Against Spurs we somehow conceded 4 goals from 0.67 XG. Today we’ve conceded 3 goals from 1.11 XG (of which the penalty was 0.8XG). I don’t think we’re structurally that bad defensively. We’re just making a lot of individual errors whether it be through poor confidence or whatever. Regardless of the reason, we badly need a confidence boosting win soon or this will be hard to turn around.

Long old season ahead for Utd. We’re all over the place and badly struggling to create anything of note
