The problem with dreamers like the Super league heads is that they ignored any aspect of Managers/players views or even the whole of the clubs in all leagues. they did it because they thought they could….They may well have lost round 1 but maybe back for Round 2. I am not against change but not this way

In effect, I think it is all over now as far as the EPL goes irrespective of what Utd, Liverpool Arsenal and Spurs. the withdrawal (ans not before time) of Chelsea and City has created a problem for the Super league. The Americanisation of our game just will not work. Changes to the format, rules, is not going to be accepted and this will proove the point. Let us not forget though that UEFA are planning changes, will we like/loathe them ? Fifa also trialed different formats. TV wants the younger fans…so ..lets me it more exciting. (?) Question..can ther brain span not last 90 minutes or is it they need 20 minute intervals to watch Adverts or have a drink? This is a wake up call…Fifa, Uefa and FA’s just have to do better for the clubs , players and fans not tinker with the game we love

ED…a natural sentiment for many I also keep asking myself the question
What is wrong about a new league?
Why cannot a team play in more than 1 league if it wantsScap Euro Internationals
Scapulas some Domestic CupsYears ago it was 42 league games a season, make it 36. Winners and runners up qualify for anything that need it
Relegation keep at 2
Squad number why limit it?_____________________________

Nine, PSG..easy to understand…they are a big fish in a small pond and can keep there forever….they could have neighbours from Benelux countries to join them but they would still be the big fish. They see comfort, there is a French saying but my French is more than rusty at the moment!!

Good response Nine, feel the same, I do not like what is happening without a clearer explanation, which we still do not have, even reading the City official page. I cannot say it will affect my viewing because I am old now and going to a football match is a bigger challenge than I need but after 76 yrs of City support I cannot just give that up. In that City history, like you, I have seen more nightmare performances than not. I think when the dust has settled and we know how the season will look, suspensions or not, most City fans will stay with the club. I still do not think it maybe as bad as everybody fears providing a compromise is found other than that I will off to the local Park to watch, after all, that is what I do with cricket. I also think that some of these banners are well wide of the mark…it has not been a “working class”game since the 1940″s and particularly the last 25 yrs when fans can buy and afford all the kit. That would have never been affordable in other era’a

Mikus…I think the 50+1 rule could easily be circumnavigated and it probably happens in Germany but the principle is good. Investors will want to invest in a well managed club where possible future investment needs to be made. In my view that aspect is unlikely to come from the fans side, they have there shares and that will be there effort, nothing wrong with that, until the clubs need money, which they all do in time , no matter who they are

Mikus, you are right, the seed was sown at the advent of EPL. It all started when the TV and Betting companies took active interest. Some call it progress, I have yet to be convinced and I would never let a son of mine run around with a betting advert on his shirt. We have to face facts now that every corner of the game is a money making opportunity and it is ruthlessly exploited. I wonder how much the new shirts will costs in the future? One thing the fans can do is stop buying the rip off costs and put it in the kids saving box, makes me wonder how some families can afford it in these difficult times

What I do know Surrey…good/bad…if it does not happen now it will happen in the near future. Unless a comprimise is found UEFA will collapse and have a debt problem. Clubs cannot afford to trip around with added fixtures they want and needless friendly Internationals is one aspect they have not addressed. the constant fixture pile up..they have not addressed. It is a sorry mess all round

Steve…your post made me smile….of course you are right, I would be more confident if UEFA/FiFA were Snow White in there management of the game but they set the poor standard where few would trust them to develop the game, this being the case, in steps a consortium who think they can do better.
It is hard for the real fans but it is going to happen, maybe not to day but it will happen in some form. Real fans were not considered in this but have never been anyway and the emphias now will be on global enterprise . Plenty of jobs coming up for Hot dog sellers, Cheer leaders, Marching Bands and maybe an odd Bossa nova!!!_____________________________

Chucky…good to see you back. I guess there will be a lot more mileage in this before we know what will really happen,,although at least one UEFA member wants City, Chelsea and R,Madrid thrown out on Friday, always knew the French would win it this year!!! I think you are right in thwe legal assessment , the Ruling bodies will have to go very carefully and temper the comments already made. It will not frighten the new boys at all. In all probability a compromise will be found but I also suspect this is only Round 1.

Surrey Blue…good post. I hate the thought of it but it has been coming for the last2/3 years and the ineptness of the various FA’s have done nothing to fend it off except for some useless threats. I think the English league system will survive, properly managed and although I wi; always be a City fan in my heart I would not hesitate to watch Blackburn/Bolton.Rochdale as a football fan. I am not interested in City v Real Madrid etc in league format
As somebody has already said…the new Group are looking at the next generation of fans not the historical ones……thats OK with me….I just move on as well._____________________________

Nine….as to the threat to players…..the FA would face huge legal arguments on employment rights if they tried to force this, you simply cannot refuse a person the right to work if he/she is successful in an application to work for somebody else. The fact they worked for a rival organisation is not good enough, wake up FA..it happens in your own organisation!!!

Nine…if you remember i predicted this some time ago. What has triggered this is the lack of good management by Fifa,UEFA FA and others. FFP rules that are are vague lack of real responsibility to players health. I am not saying the new league would bring it any better but it was the trigger. Rights or wrong have yet to be defined when we know more about how it will operate, particulrly for fans. Let us make no mistake though this has come about by the ineptitude of the organising bodies of the game, they have not moved with the times, it is over managed and you only have to look back at Blatter and Co and World Cup venues
It will be interesting to see if PSG wins this years CL when the other three are all break aways!!!!
ON a personal view, I think it would need more clubs for it to be successful but the breakaway have been planning this for some time so they know where the dangers are and there are plenty
This is also a reason why I have always said the CL Cup will be de valued in time so it never excited me, much preferred the English game of EPL and FA Cup
The breakaway will eventually include teams from the USA, Japan, India, Korea and China? That is when the Super league becomes Global. like it or not guys…it will happen….I am off to to the local park team!!!!

Mikus, yes there are similarities between the teams, I can always accept defeat well, providing the team gives its best, against Chelsea, too many were no where near there best and with one/two even the best is not good enough now. We have gained with Dias/laporte and Stones and lost with Silva and Augerro. Pep will continue with the high line, have no problem with that as long as we have players that can fit it.
