All this discussion on spending on players as if it is something new. It is new for City, for years we have been the butt end of jokes about how poor we are and cannot afford decent players and we struggled, everybody laughed at us, Other clubs were spending the equivalent to to-days prices, now the new age fans either forget that part of our history, I, along with many other City fans do not. It is our turn now, it will not last forever but we will enjoy it while we can until somebody else comes along and they will enjoy the same way..
It is silly money but it has always been silly money and the growth (that is debatable also) of the game has taken its course. In a way, you can almost separate football and finance as the different entities they are. Fans think inside the box, successful business think outside it. Logic no longer counts as far as a players worth is concerned. It was interesting what KDB has just told Grealish…”Now. the hard work starts”_____________________________

ED…Messi…my point is that, in my opinion why would Messi want to come to the EPL when he will be thinking of more lifestyle and future business opportunities, not so much football, at this stage. Paris will give him a little more than Manchester and an easier way of life but MSL will offer him more. He may confound us all and sign for Fleetwood F.C!!!!!

Ed…as I have said before….Messi will not be joining City. free agent or not….I doubt Paris either but is the only option in Europe, MSL most likely I think

Mikus…a good post and good overview. My biggest problem is the word “expectancy” but the world moves on, I believe not in the best way at times when you see what is happening now in society.
Chuky…you are perfectly right…that was all it need from Kane but also Mr Levy for his style of management…he will loose this round, one way or another and his demands will not be met. I suppose to be fair to Mr Levy he will sell but only at his price…here lies the biggest problem and just how good he is at managing his strategy. It is clear to me then that Kane is not so much the issue but how much revenue I can collect because he has bills to pay and players to buy, if he is not quick he may loose the City offer. (hope so!!!!)

Chuky…I just do not understand how “fans” get so upset if a player wants to leave. As long as I have watched football and before that players have always been the same, years ago there this kind of thing did not happen, fans just accepted that the player moved on. Fans now believe in the “loyalty card”. It is a myth. There are few examples in the modern game at this level of football. If this had been a lesser player than Kane nobody would have blinked an eye. As to contracts, that is another matter. A Club and a player should fully understand what is in the contract. Gentlemans agreement is from a bygone era and not relevant as hard as it maybe for Mr Kane but he should have had better advise at the time of signing. Mr Levy knew what he was doing. As I said before there are no winners in this, City will not play Mr Levy’s game and the end result will be he looses. I actually think City would increase there offer but only slightly but I am really living in hope you keep him. Hope it all finishes soon though and he signs for Chelsea or Utd

Just watched the last of the three pre season games. I am very impressed with some of the youngsters and some of these will become real first team players in a season or two. The movement and pace has been drilled into them, that was obvious but the “old man” stole the show for me, Fernandinho, I know he will be used sparingly this season but he is a joy to watch the way he reads a game
Mahrez , Cancello and Ake have had good pre season. Dias looks a little rusty
Gundogan continues to score goals_____________________________

Whatever happens now, there are no winners in this saga, Spurs will be the biggest looser, they will hold on to a vastly depreciating asset, they must have a good bank Manager City will not pay that kind of money, neither will Chelsea/Utd but when the City bid is withdrawn Spurs will sell for 100 million, that is what Mr levy really wants, just not to City

Lots of ways of looking at this, on one hand, a player signs a contract and that should be honoured unless there is a mutual agreement to finish it. I am surprised that Kane was banking on a Gentlemans agreement with Levy. Another view is Levy is cutting off his nose to spite his face because he knows that future offers, whenever that is, will be well below his inflated price and once City drop out, it will fall even quicker. For 150 millions you could get two really good players who will do a job up front, there is no guarantee Kane will continue his form. I can understand Spurs fans being upset, but this is football and if that was me I would not even be thinking of medals but the financial future of my family, so, yes…money does talk but if the reason is right there is no disgrace in that. I just wish some of these football players would be honest and not afraid to say why they are wanting a move, I do not believe it is all about medals, at least for some but I suppose it may well be the case for others

Chuky, whatever the reason, Covid has a lot to answer for!!!!! I am delighted if you you keep him though, he is not the answer to our prayers and think we could do better. I think City may reduce the price now though so Mr Levy can lock the door, never mind Spurs will beat city 2-0 in the opener and Kane will score one. We do not wake up until a few games in

Strikers? We have done without them for two seasons now , I do believe we need one but he has to fit the collective plan of pep. I do not believe Kane does this, Grealish is not a striker, Jesus scores more goals but we do need something different up front. Torres can be a great player for us who can also score. Gungdogan is not a striker but scores 17 goals last season. Foden will blossom next season. I actually do not think we are that short of firepower, the stats will prove that but we were less clinical last season on the chances created. I am also hoping our defence is just as mean as ever as well

Nine…I think you are right about one thing, IF he buys Grealish it will not be for CL priority, that is, if,that is the case and I do not believe it is. CL, I am sure the owners want it, I am sure Pep would like it for City but the players on the pitch did not want it enough. I think Pep made a tactical mistake in the Final but it was still up to the players to fulfil that plan, they must have trained for it although you would not have thought so on the day. If Pep gives me another EPL and FA Cup that more than compensates for the CL for my own preference but plenty of others will be after same pots as well. I do not expect anything at the start of the season, ask me next may!!!

Just watched City’s second pre season game against Barnsley. Another good performance from the youngsters, Liked Sandler at CB and Gomez in midfield. Of the seniors Ake, Zinchenko,(what little time he had}, Cancello Mahrez excellent and of course Fernandinho who always appears at danger moments and deals with it. The youngsters did tire and they were bundled off the ball a little too easily by tougher opponents but always fought back..a good sign.

Sean…a PS…I do like what you say about admiring a player that stays with the club a long time, I would agree with that, we have had recent ones like Augerro, Silva but I will always remember Alan Oakes best uncapped defensive midfielder City had with a wonderful record of appearances, plus my own hero frank Swift, interrupted by the war years. Your Billy Liddell must be close to an appearance record

Sean…another point about Villa or any fans for that matter. “love” for a player only lasts while they are performing, loose form and the fans change like the weather….fickle

Sean….Liverpool will, be challenging injuries or not but I do think they need an alternative to the High press game which must take its toll in time. I think Pep found this out last season, it also costs us a few games, Pan B!!!

Sean…I think a players loyalty to a club is very much second place to what is best for his family and their future. Nobody is concerned when say a Utd player manages City or City player manages Utd. etc. Family and personal ambition must come first not fans expectancy. Grealish may well stay at Villa and good luck to him I am sure he is bright enough to weigh up the pro’s and con’s
On the injuries question, it is a problem with the fixture list for most clubs
I guess it is important to build a good squad, City do not have the largest squad but they have good quality in the making I wonder if increasing the squad size from 25 to say 27 would bet better but I would suggest they have to be EDS additions not purchases_____________________________

Not so interested since they let Russia back in and take medals from other countries. Why are they even showing and giving them medals, it is a sham

Just watched the City v Preston pre season warm up game. 2-0. City started with Dias, Ake Fernandinho, cancello, mendy and Mahrez the rest filled with Eds Players.. HT and 10 changes all EDS players on now. Goalkeeper took a bad injury, hope it is not as serious as it looked, but medics on pitch over 10 minutes. Sandler and McAtee I thought stand out players, very promising for City Fernandinho..what a player at his age and mixing it with the youngsters who were quicker but not smarter!!
