I do not mind World Cup every two years but drop the other Cups. UEFA etc
I do not think by thinking of players may miss out because of injury comes into the solution. The game will be planned on its commercial value not a players dream.
I have never favoured wall to wall football throughout the year in any form and that is where the game is heading if we are not careful

National pride or not, the realistic situation is, all countries now have there rules. All these players would be aware of. If they take the risk they have to bear the consequences, Forget football. this is a public health situation….although I can see a smattering of something else going on as well

I am not sure why we all get flustered over transfer fees and wages, it is all relative to the times we live in and not specific to football. I have come through the periods of the first £5K, 10, 20, 25 40 50 100k players etc etc same points made. Always obscene and will continue to be. I can see the first £500K Billion pound player on the horizon. A team shirt costing £500. it is all daft. I would like to see a brake put on, just for sanity sake but there are too may vested interest in football now who will milk the system. To say “it is a business now” is probably the best truism that can be said. I ask myself, what is football given back? We have more organisations, which means an overload of management and costs who are not even in “sync” with each other. Football is still a beautiful game but is now manipulated. The joy of watching 22 players actually enjoying football being debased by the divers, cheaters and dare I say it, VAR and theatrical performers posing as footballers. I will always watch football so this is just my lament on the state of the game to day and the money that goes with it…..however, that has always been the case since year dot

I feel very much the same Sean so you are not alone. I just wish they would put everyone in a bag and draw out, No double games, no extra time no penalties…just one game over 90 minutes. Of course it will never happen but then they will not get my interest either and I suspect I will not be alone.
As to Irelands footballers, very difficult and as you say those that appear are now in lower leagues but then it is up to the Irish spirit for those players to do well and get noticed.
I will be just pleased when normal services resumed next week, for us, away at Leicester…should be interesting

Not much charity with a few of those tackles though!!!!! Rooney, zableta, Carlos and the Dutch midfielder who played in Italy, sorry forgotten his names were the stand out players for me but a few of the Celebs did very well.
All in a good cause,_____________________________

Nine….they ,Fifa will find an excuse for another slap on the hand. We need to be careful though, our fans are also getting close to the same thing. OH,, I know, the usual statement will come up…..its only a minority….well they are begging to run the show.

2nd September 2021 at 2:37 pm in reply to: Forget Expected Goals, How About Expected Threat?! 😀 #184290Lucky…another view is that. if you accept one action, i.e. “expected goals”. then hit should follow that all other actions are qualified in the same manner. We now have a Mathematical game of theory……the answer to this is to read up on John Ruskin he had a way of evaluating just about anything

Just watched the Real Madrid v City Ladies. 1-1. Game strewn with mistakes but I guess it was the first match, well it was for City and it shown. result fair. Had to laugh at the end though, the lady commentator said one player was MAN of the match!!!!! I have to think about that!!!!

Arsenal were poor but I do not believe it is ALL the managers fault. Players get paid to put better effort in than that. They are on the pitch not the manager, nothing worse than lack of effort and not one of them trying to pull them together. If we had been playing a lower division team they would have at least given city a game, The 10 men served as an excuse not what was happening. I have levelled this criticism at City in the past when a whole team did not turn up, I just do not understand footballers at times. I hope Arsenal take some lessons from it, next game is bigger than a Final for them

Nine…re your post on 28th…you are right of course, Pep would like an instinctive CF but the alternative is not bad and it has been proven. I think eventually we will get one, hopefully , without all the drama. As to “poor teams”. well, yes, they were poor, but we did not know not know that when we kicked off and had to get into gear. Of the two Norwich put up better resistance

We need to pick up points, at the end of next month we have 3 away games in succession. Chelsea, PSG and Liverpool. that will be a real test for the squad, Messi and Neymar included

Nice to see Kompany and Silva honoured with two statues but I hope they do not forget past players who deserve a place…Frank Swift, captained City and England. Alan Oakes most appearances and a very consistent player. Ken Barnes. I could add matt Busby who captained City in a very good city team in the 30. but doubt that will go down well with some, red or blue. We may end up with a Theme Park if I add any more!!!!

Only three games in but averaging over 3 a game, not bad without a striker

Cityboy…no. Arteta is not the answer, if he had stayed at City and learned a little more then maybe, but not now. At the same time I think there are many more to blame at Arsenal besides Arteta

Nine…why not? Anyone with ambition lined up for the City job should be looking ahead. I still think, if he is going, pep would have been asked, who will be your successor and maybe that is not the one City will have chosen but for an important job like this they will not be leaving too long. Time will be important of any succession. Because of the 2 season wait though I believe the appointment is not going to be from the UK anyway. At one time, I thought Vierra was being lined up for it but I doubt it now. Arteta, despite his start at Arsenal would be OK but it will not happen, I think it will be an outsider not one of the usual candidates. Pep and Klopp have proved you do not have to understand the EPL…you change the EPL..that is what they have done and what makes them different. I think Tuchell is also on the way to doing the same but time will tell.

Nine..if we are just talking PL ok. but without a striker City have at least 8 players capable of scoring a minimum of 10 goals each, not saying they will but opposing teams will be aware of that and with City style of play I do not think it is unreasonable assumption. Plus I expect goals from Diaz, Stones and Laporte Also other teams will have strikers Kane/Lukaka/Salah being the most obvious, it will then come down to how our defence performs.I think we are still short of a good defensive midfielder though, Fernandinho will not be able to manage all the season
