Nike…have to admit I liked Lawrenson and Hansen…they talked good football sense and impartial as far as I can remember..Brooking..useless like most of to days lot. The worst of the lot and I can go back to year DOT. is Linaker, Shearer capable of talking sense until he plays board games in hindsight, same could be said of others as well. Some go on talking about things not related to the match they are supposed to be covering, with the early broadcasters you missed nothing that was happening on the pitch. The best commentators I ever heard was Glendening and John Arlott plus maybe the old Test Match team when cricket was cricket.

Nike..it is a continuation from the Lawrence/hansen days. There should be neutrals in the box in these games

Thought Utd unlucky yesterday. Score flattered Arsenal but that is the way it goes sometimes

Makes me wonder sometimes when the media go on about strikers. Spurs with two strikers the media are crazy about but Spurs only just have over 50 goals this season, Chelsea have at least three strikers not much better and at a cost. Utd have a lot of strikers who do not score except Ronaldo. Liverpool are all strikers and top of the heap. City. no strikers close but doing Ok. Jesus is NOT a striker but you would not know it to day, his best position, Mahrez is occupying. We will get two strikers for next season, I wonder if the goals will dry up?????? It appears to me that City and Liverpool work on a team basis more and it certainly helps if you have a good Manager

Ed…it is a big gamble…but life is like that. I doubt he will favour any of the current squad so that will be a big shift, then he has to re build. I do think he is a good coach, if I was a Utd fan I would worry more about what authority he is given and what “upstairs” interference will or will not change. Given the team controls are in the right place Utd will bounce back but without changing the management structure they have, it will be back to the drawing board.

21st April 2022 at 4:04 pm in reply to: Weekend Football GW 33 &๐ โฝ๏ธFA Cup Semi Finals ๐โฝ๏ธ๐ #195589Nike..very true what you said on April 20 re City. The important thing was at the time of the take over our owners were looking at a number of clubs and decided the City profile fitted there plans better. If they had bought other clubs there fans would not be so critical would they? City would have plodded along in there own sweet way and somebody else would have the advantage of good business management. I am not sure anymore that we will see large overseas investors come into the British Football Leagues but you will always see Buy out companies activity, similar to the Glaziers model. Liverpool now have considerable pitch credits and I can see that being confidence to its American owners to go further with investment, plus they have a good Manager who does his job well

Sean/Mikus…on current form I see Liverpool winning Double or treble, you have a very good squad to achieve that. City, I believe are just lacking a little, not sure what, but we do not appear to have that same energy and enjoyment as previous. A few good wins would help but, you know when they are playing well, but not scoring , they try too hard and it makes it worse. City, Liverpool and Chelsea will be the front runners again next season but my prediction at the beginning of the season when I stated Everton would be challenging sums up how good I am at predictions!!!!! Chelsea v Liverpool…a midfield battle, whoever wins that, wins the Cup

Mikus…I am not convinced about Haarland, however, as you say, he is only 21 but we will have to see if he settles in the EPL. I wanted Jota before you stepped in and prefer that type of player at that level. We also need a replacement for Bernado and Fernandiho, possibly, Gungdogan, Laporte. All in discussion about moving on, Walker will be on the move sooner rather than later so, in my view we have a lot of re building to do and the money could be spent elsewhere…but this is just me..a fan…not a Manager or Buyer.I do not see City being that dominant but expect them to do well We could also still finish this season with nothing, that does not bother me other than disappointment on how the season finishes. Liverpool, I see as getting at least a Double maybe a treble ad still odds for a Quad but that maybe a step too far for any team in the modern era. Great end tp the season in prospect and next season will be a cracker

18th April 2022 at 4:06 pm in reply to: Weekend Football GW 33 &๐ โฝ๏ธFA Cup Semi Finals ๐โฝ๏ธ๐ #195523Sean…I do rate Chelsea, certainly the best team in London and a serious challenge to City and Liverpool. The costs of City’s team raised its head again but to me..it proves one thing, if it was not already known…Money does not buy everything, it is an established fact of life.
It may well be worth reading John Ruskin’s view on costs though. I always applied it in my business even when I had no money!!!!! If I could not afford to buy it then I would have to do without!!!! I certainly think City have it inscribed in there operation_____________________________

17th April 2022 at 10:49 am in reply to: Weekend Football GW 33 &๐ โฝ๏ธFA Cup Semi Finals ๐โฝ๏ธ๐ #195501Sean…I think both City and Liverpool have set the standards so high , it is, that, the other teams are not following so close. I do not think the levels have dropped for the rest, in fact I think they have become higher. If you look at the way Norwich played, admit some poor defending by to days standards etc but the football itself has improved so much and I would make a guess that the bottom teams now would have been serious contenders for the title as little as 10 years ago. I guess it maybe said …that is the games development. This however brings to days scene and City and Liverpools era. I would also add that it is down to good management more than finance

I am at a loss about City’s poor performance, a slight improvement in second half but we never had any authority in the match. Six changes was too many for a semi final, I know KDB, Laporte and possible Gungdogan needed to be rested but we could have put a better team out than that. We had no idea how to play in the first half and with a weak goalkeeper it must have been a bonus for Liverpool. I believe he should have stopped all three goals. However, Liverpool were the better team throughout and deserved to forward and good luck to them

Nike and Mikus…a bit tongue in cheek from me, yes we could have done with Augerro no doubt, at the same time I do not think Haarland or Mbappe would do as well for City. As to the match itself, thought draw was a fair result but the misses from Mahrez and sterling were frustrating. However, I get over these things quickly. I look forward to the return where a winner has to emerge, I do hope, with both our fixture lists though that it does not go to extra time. Our clubs have set a standard for the EPL never before reached we should be proud of that

KDB outstanding to day, easily MotM. Good performance by City, I guess pep had Wednesday in mind by not playing Gungdogan and Mahrez and Grealish came on too late. A very competitive game and easily the best two teams in the country, in a way, it is a shame we have to meet again so soon but games have to be played
