threes…I had intended watching it but with all the doom and gloom around us at the moment wanted something I actually enjoyed for the acting and put a smile on my face…Last tango in Halifax…I know it is another dysfunctional family but with quiet Northern humour. I cannot see where the story line could go after two series though unfortunately

For me having three Govt people standing there , daily, giving up to date thinking is re assuring…..I know some part is PR but listening to most of them I feel they have a plan and they will get on with it. The big issue will always be have they acted in a timely way….nobody knows that and the Govt , at least, as set out its explanation of why they have not done things sooner. There is huge logistical effort required here and we have to let them get on with it There is no place for Political gain or ammeter economics I am impressed with the new Chancellor, certainly an improvement on the doom and gloom merchant we had before, Boris was wise to get rid of him, he knew what he did to TM

Mak…certainly lessons to be learned for everybody. For the first time, for me, I do have some sympathy for our politicians…they are the ones making the decisions and this virus has caught just about everybody out. It is not just a case of throwing more money at it as well, we all have a part to play…this is being outlined repeatedly but still people ignore what is being said, I can understand a PM not wanting to impose draconian measures but if that what it takes it has to be done and those that flout should receive heavy punishment. I do have confidence in what we are doing but we are only at the start of this story and I can see total lock down approaching

I actually like watching old Black and white films, some make me laugh when I am not supposed to!!!! There are some good ones. I have a large library of CD and an Apple Library These are filled with a lot of action films, Westerns and crime thrillers. I don not go for box sets but receive them as presents, The last was Judge John Deed which I really like and the PACIFIC re WW2

Sorry guys, a bit alien to me. I know some of them, the real musicians in them but the I guess I am being a bit “sniffy” about these things. I was brought up on Big bands and Jazz trios and quartets and being player influences that I guess, but times change so the music changes with it. I do think it is amazing though that arranger keyboards can produce full blown orchestras, Big Bands and good R&B CW styles as well It would not do for us to be all the same that would not create any meaningful progress There are a few that have gone between era’s as well, James last, Bert Kampfert and a few others but John Wilson is best of all because he does the full film scores to the dot

I never gig either, Idid once though when I was in the RAF I was practising in deserted room, Shearing type music, when a bunch of ladies came in, I think they were Salvation Army ladies but not in uniform, however, they asked me not to leave, listened to a couple of numbers then asked me to play some Hymns for them….welll, I am not sure how Shearings Chords went with a dodgy piano and playing Hymns but I got through 20 minute…that is the only time I have gigged and said to myself..”never again”

The modern arranger keyboards are fantastic, you can build full orchestras on them or just play solo in just about every instrument you can think of. My problem is having two keyboards with entirely different OS, that in itself is a big challenge but I have taken on the challenge
I am a big fan of film scores and music from 30/40/50s when all the great writers and composers did so many wonderful songs, most of the standards are timeless and as the saying goes “they do not write them like that anymore” Jazz, I definitely like and some latin styles.
The only thing I play as a Guitar solo is Cavatina and the Girl from Ipenema but I have great backing for those numbers as well. I do like to hear a Guitar well played though. I had a dear friend who actually made them and some leading classical guitarist made visits to his workshop endgame him high praise. Funny thing was , he could not play or read music but made wonderful guitars, his workshop was wonderful to visit

There is no finess with modern music which is designed mostly for females that can hold top note longest and loudest and every song becomes the same

That is it Nine..the golden word ..practise…My problem is I have so many things to practise on. My music taste cover a wide range, so getting it right across all genres is not easy plus the faster numbers are out because my mind and hands cannot keep up any more, a bit easier when playing with Midi back up but still hard going because timing becomes the issue then. It does fill time though and I have almost forgotten about football The other good thing is I have done about 10 versions of Blue Moon!!!!

Nine…well we both suffer from the same thing..our equipment is better than we are. Although I play a lot with Midi backing tracks now, particularly Big Band….and I mean BIG band….Ted Heath, Count basie etc at my age the finger work is difficult now, easier if i select a Trombone or play Shearing style (slower) Guitars, often liked to play an Acoustic for real but again my fingers would not manage it now. The keyboard versions are exceptionalities and you would have to be good to tell difference

442…Recording is easy via keyboard CD/USB or HD I still have a 16 track Roland recorder though I have good memory storage on both keyboards and store my efforts….just to learn where I make the mistakes!!!!

Nav…my Guitar playing is via keyboard, I cannot play a Guitar. However, if you can read music it should not be a problem only the slides and Riffs to learn

Nine..thanks for that recommendation, always good to read the opposite view as well, although the Battle of the Bulge does that well. It also highlighted the complete disdain for Montgomery by the Americans, rightly so, because he claimed to the Press he won the battle..Churchill rebuked him in Parliament..he should have gone and counted the American graves then

threes…long before the Tornado was a glint in her mothers eye…the Meteor I was a Rigger…or Airframe mechanic….I was in for 3 years and worked mostly on Avro Anson MK12/19/21 and Havards. YES..driven by props although I did some training on Meteors. The Anson a mixture of cloth and metal airframe so had to be handy with needle and cotton!!!!! (Not mentioned that to my wife) Loved my life in the RAF and cried when I came out. Loved the Anson as well, most underrated aircraft in the RAF history maybe because it was Jack of all trades

I love analysis books of battles, just finished Battle of the Bulge, really fascinating some of the actual detail, Neville Shute was always a favourite from my school days.. Far Country, etc
Being ex RAF I have a lot of books on aircraft and air battles as well keeps me occupied
I do find it hard to actually learn anything from books now, probably the age thing, because I am trying to figure out lots of music problems I have, without success, so I just try and solve my own way. Google helps with video lessons
