Banjo, A problem Spain might have is it’s only relatively recently been a democratic country late 70s. I think the Spanish national police heavy tactics showed that Franco’s legacy has not completely gone away.

Surely a bigger problem ans risk is a loss of life. Plenty lost their life when Yugoslavia broke up into independent states.

Tedious, I went to the pub. Qualify top of group, then out in group stage at WC. Sounds familiar?

Aguero is older than Kane so possibly a little more injury prone. I would say their styles of play are slightly different aswell. In so far as Aguero can turn defenders very close to them and hence let’s fouled a lot in a game. Some of his injuries have been down to defenders just hacking him. Besic of Everton took him out with a cynical foul at the Etihad a couple of seasons ago and he was out for the best part of 2 months.

Ok really sad to here that Tom Petty passed away. Was a big fan of his but sadly never saw him live.

Nine, sure Chelsea had a slightly harder week but imho not by much. City also played three games and had to travel down to London. And our star inform striker was absent for the entire game, with our new full back who had been ripping up trees also out. The score could easily have been more emphatic. Sometimes its best to just admit that the other team were better on the day, and not come up with excuses. However, it is difficult as a fan not to come up with excuses. I remember last year at the Etihad City missed their chances Chelsea sat back and hit us on the break but helped theoughout the game by some rather dubious refereeing to say the least. Jim. As a side note a week or two back there was a debate on here about Hazard vs DeBryne. Imo Hazard did what he often does I big games and goes missing. Chelsea were also not helped by contes rather strange defensive tactics of not replacing Morata with a striker. Was that decision also due to you playing Athletico midweek, or maybe he was just out thought by Pep?

Banjo I am surprised. Do you really think players just play for money? Do you also think that our player will jump ship at the first sign of trouble. Aguero, Silva and Kompany have all had oportunities to move no doubt and play for more money. Sure we got very lucky, I and thousands of other City fans who followed our club through much darker times than you have ever experienced or will experience as a spurs fan will ever know, we are acutely aware of how lucky we have been. So I don’t need you to tell me that. Also during those days lower down the league ans divisons nearly every decent player we had eventually left our club for more money or trophies, Kinky being the exception. There wasnt even the money in the lower part of the prem as now. Also where did I grumble or complain in my post. You know full well my views on FFP and how i would prefer a conpletely level playing field. There was genuinely no attempt at a dig at Spurs in my posts above if it came across like that I am sorry, I hope Kane stays at Spurs. Spurs play brilliant football and imo are a hares breath player or two away from winning stuff regularly imo. I was just talking about your need to hang on to your star player ans build arround him to make that final step. Ultimately your team are little different to City. Not one of your players joined Spurs soley because they love the club, neither did any move to you for less money, so don’t try and kid yourself. I honestly thought you were better than the post you put above but except that perhaps I got the wrong end of the stick. Then again perhaps your little money City jibes gave the game away earlier. I notice you dont refer to united like that. I get it they earnt their money right lol and City have no right to their success. Jim

I supose the whole point of my post was similar to what the Ed said above. To keep very top players happy you have to offer a good chance of success and money close to what other players of similar stature are getting. Spurs are not far off the chance of winning trophies. They have a great manager. But just need one or two quality additions, but as banjo says it’s hard to judge how you would improve. You may be right Kane may well stay for 4-5 seasons but rearly have top players stayed at a club unless they have an opportunity of winning stuff and being paid wages consummate with other players. Can anyone think of a player of Kanes quality that has stayed at a club that hasnt won trophies regularly. The closest I can think of is Gerard but aside from the obvious PL he still won everything else the club game had to offer. Kane has won me over he’s not a prospect anymore, or a one season wonder he’s the real deal. IMO Levy needs to be saying to Pochetino now, what do you need to make that final step.

Maverick. As much as it pains me to say it. Mouriniho is too shrewd an operator to come forth with the players he now has at Old Trafford. IMO they will be right up there challenging come May. Nil my friend, why use 10 words when you can use just 2. Sure there is a bit of a media love in with United but we all know that when the cracks appear as they surely will at some point as the season is long. Mouriniho will say some stupid attention seeking things as is his way and the media will target him. IMO Klopp is getting some stick ftom the media simply because he didn’t get the right players in in the summer to suit his style of play. Just like Guardiola did last season. Nut the season is long and things change. Jim

Nice thoughts Maverick but way way too early. Yes we are tighter at the back but still venerable for me. Kompany is out still. We will lose games for sure. Once Morata went off Hazard was too isolated. Opposition will be more adventurous inpaticular I can see Spurs and United hitting us on the break. Kane and Lukaku are in awesome form at present. Liverpool at Anfield is far from guaranteed. Mendy is also a massive loss for the season. No doubt Guardiola has got us playing some quality high tempo football but personally if we only lose 3 games this season I will be very happy. It’s still anyone out of 4 teams for the league for me. Jim

Not looking forward to this game much now. Playing Aguero and Jesus up front has been causing all sorts of problems for opposing defences. And now with the deliveries of Mendy and Kompany diciplining the defence we are severely weakened. Will be very happy with a point. Anyone know who the ref is, last time vs Chelsea at the Etihad we had that total bent knob and long time Altrincham fan lol (whos family are all reds) Anthony Taylor, who basically decided to give nearly every important decision to Chelsea. But all forgiven now. ?

Mendy is a huge loss. Aguero out for two months and Vinny seemingly only fit to play internationals. Its uniteds to throw away imo. We didnt strengthen our centre half position. While selling Inheanacho and putting all our eggs in the basket for Sanchez. Bit of a silly transfer policy this summer if you ask me. Guardiola also needs to give Foden, Diaz and Adarabioyo a go. We need some squad strengthing to take the strain off the likes of Jesus, Danilo and Stones Otamendi.

Sounds like Mendy will be out for most of this season. Has a ruptured ACL. Tbh I don’t know the difference between a rupture and a torn. Is there one? He needs an opp so I assume it’s a bad one. Think that’s probably a big dent in our title challenge, he was making such a difference. We have had some real poor luck with injuries the past 2-3 seasons.
