Most are his players. Rashford isn’t and started the mess on Sunday by overrunning and then not tracking back, Dalot isn’t and didn’t track Johnson, or rather only bothered to track him until he decided it was too much bother. Garnacho isn’t his player either and he can’t cross a ball and wants to shoot. Our wingers offer nothing and none of them are his players. Mainoo too, goes walkabout and can’t play in a double pivot.
He has spent massively and needs to be doing better, Zirkzee is a waste of money, Anthony isn’t worth talking about.
He needs to get the wingers to play for the team. I don’t know why we go for these out and out wingers who will not work for the team. There have been loads of great, hard working wingers in the PL who want to move to bigger clubs and rather than buy two of those for Β£40m each we brought Anthony. And the same with Sancho.
I like Mazraoui, I think he will be a decent player for us. I think Ugarte will settle when he has more help in front of him. Be interesting to see Yoro play, he has the pace to make a difference. But it comes from the front, we didn’t press high, didn’t press at all, put no pressure on anyone at all and if the ball was lost we didn’t track back. There is not one CB pairing or holding player in the PL who will look good if no one bothers to help them out.
Even if ETH is telling players not to bother, surely they would know they should at least try?
It just has to be the players.
Villa will be all over us at the weekend and that will be the end of the manager and then the cycle will start all over until we bring in players who can press and a CM to sit with Ugarte.

He does slip, but he then petulantly fouls Maddison.
Itβs not that high ti be fair, itβs on the shin with the back of his heel. Maddison rolls around as if he has been shot and holds his knee, which is no where near the contact.

Thatβs a low bar for a red.

Rubbish from us. Kick and hope.

Glad Ugarte starts for us, would rather Hojlund started up front, but he probably needs minutes to get match fit again.
Not looking forward to this one, need to get off to a good start. And cut out the silly mistakes.

He is very frustrating to watch at times. Though most of our players fall into that category! Our attacking players often look like it’s their first time playing the game.

Sour grapes from City. They are masters of fouling in transition.

Not sure he was the problem. All of the team were trying stupid passes.
Rashford, for all of his good play, had no final ball (bar one which Zirkzee should have finished), Amad didn’t deliver one good ball and Zirkzee isn’t the striker we needed.
Hojlund should have been brought on alongside Zirkzee, they were always going to sit back at the end and Mount only came on due to trying to squeeze him in somewhere.

26th September 2024 at 12:49 pm in reply to: Champions League New Format and First Phase Matches #215747A draw which feels like a loss. Sad when one of your own players says the oppo wanted it more.

He should have been booked for that, but I guess VARY can’t intervene as it’s only a yellow and neither can the FA.
That said, I am sure VAR has had a quiet word with refs in the past over bookings as players have been booked after a huge delay before.

Havertz barged into Rhodri straight from the first kick off and didn’t get booked. You might argue Rhodri moved across him, but you can also argue ref being consistent with the two incidents.
I agree that Oliver, and the other refs paid by City’s owners, should not be allowed to officiate City games, that is just common sense. But Haaland on Gabriel was really poor sportsmanship and that needs to be clamped down on.

You don’t want to see players sent off for kicking the ball away, but what else can the ref do? Can he allow players already on a card to make as many minor offenses as they want? It’s a yellow card offense and he got carded.
Annoyingly they will decide to stop making it a yellow card offense soon and everyone will go back to whacking the ball away whenever they feel like it.

Iβd have had more sympathy for him had he chased after the ball, but he knew the ref had blown so didnβt bother. Stupid from him.

So dominant, so disappointing not to win.
Clean sheet and looked better at the back but didnβt take any of the chances we created.

17th September 2024 at 1:40 pm in reply to: Champions League New Format and First Phase Matches #215641It’s probably to appease the clubs who wanted more games in the european super league. Certainly a change for money and not quality. Far too many non-event games.

You could tell spurs didnβt fancy that corner. Too many players trying to grapple rather than actually defend. Looked like teenagers trying to defend a corner rather than professionals.
Arsenal very solid off the ball.

Too easy for Arsenal there. First shot on target and a goal.

Not seen the incident at all, so making no comment but apparently Szoboszlai was lucky to escape a second yellow after booting the ball away after the ref calls for a free-kick.
Fernandes was booked for crossing the ball after being offside (I think) and despite no whistle being blown to stop play.

Good win for us. Needed a bit of luck with the penalty save, as that could have changed the game. Looked in complete control after the first goal. Thought we were too open in the first half but will be looking forward to seeing more of Ugarte as the season goes on.

Eriksen in midfield is suicidal. Ugarte at HT surely.
