And for interest
Value of £45,000 from 1958 to 2022
£45,000 in 1958 is equivalent in purchasing power to about £1,120,234.61 today, an increase of £1,075,234.61 over 64 years. The pound had an average inflation rate of 5.15% per year between 1958 and today, producing a cumulative price increase of 2,389.41%.This means that today’s prices are 24.89 times higher than average prices since 1958, according to the Office for National Statistics composite price index. A pound today only buys 4.017% of what it could buy back then.
The inflation rate in 1958 was 3.20%. The current inflation rate compared to last year is now 2.27%. If this number holds, £45,000 today will be equivalent in buying power to £46,019.91 next year.
We paid £100m for Grealish. That is the current market!

Quixall joined Manchester United in September 1958 for a then British record fee of £45,000, one of Matt Busby’s key recruits in building a new team in the aftermath of the Munich air disaster, which had killed eight players and ended the careers of two others on 6 February that year.[4] After seven games without a win for United, Quixall eventually helped the team go on a run of only two losses in 23 matches to end the season as runners-up in the First Division.[3] Quixall’s only medal with the club was the 1963 FA Cup. Altogether, he scored 56 goals in 184 games for the Red Devils.[5] Manchester United midfielder Bobby Charlton recalled in his autobiography that Quixall played a key role in many of his goals in this era. He noted that Quixall “played a significant role in my rush of goals. When I broke through an offside trap, often it was to get on to the end of one of Albert’s perfectly placed passes”.[6]

When I was doing my Economics degree all those years ago the one thing that the vast majority of economists agreed upon is that you can’t buck the market. Firms, in our case football clubs will always find a way to get round restrictions. Various governments have tried pay freezes over the years. They never lasted. The market just returned to where it was. If you look at almost every league each is dominated by those with the biggest resources.
I can remember all those years ago United making a record buy – Albert Quixall. £45,000 I think it was. At that time United had the greatest resources.Ffp or variants will just make the richer clubs richer and not the opposite.
And frankly any rules brought out are just intended to benefit the big European clubs and penalise the English._____________________________

Nike. You are so right. Our greats have moved on. Kompany, Silva, Aguero, Yaya , Dzeko, Zabaleta just to name a few. The obvious trick is to get replacements in before it’s too late and to limit the departures to a manageable level. A one in one out approach to try to maintain continuity of the team to ensure the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.

According to the press we are selling Sterling, Ake, Zinchenko, Jesus and Laporte. Possibly Gundogan too.
Well that’s at least £150m if not more.Coming in? Who knows. I can’t see Pep agreeing unless there are top class replacements.

UEFA can’t stand it that the EPL is the best league.
The whole thing is opitimised by the fact that after the Athletico game where they were diabolical cheats we got fined. You watch it now. All the blame will be on the Liverpool fans

total common sense. And probably the attitude of most Liverpool fans. Total rivals. Yes. But also total respect.
Same with United. Yes I want them to lose every game but I don’t slag off their owners. United have never been short of spending just short of good management. If they had been playing Madrid well err…..😇_____________________________

“What happened, first of all, was this mass gathering of the British supporters of the Liverpool club, without tickets, or with fake tickets,” Ms Oudéa-Castéra told French radio RTL.But she said more people from the local area tried to force their way in through the doors of the Stade de France, where the match was held.
“A certain number of youths from the nearby area who were present tried to get in by mixing in with the crowd,” the minister said.
She also expressed regret that families and children were impacted by the use of tear gas.
The French minister said there were “no problems” regarding Real supporters and the Spanish side had controlled their travelling fans better than Liverpool.
Uefa initially blamed the “late arrival” of fans for the problems

30th May 2022 at 11:23 am in reply to: Liverpool V Real Madrid ⚽️Uefa Champions League Final 2022 -🎰🕹 – ⚽ #196441All Liverpool guys on here. Although we are rivals on the pitch etc. I for one was hoping Liverpool could win last Saturday which was much to the surprise of she who must be obeyed. I simply said that I would hope they would win as a) it’s an English side and b) Madrid stole the semi final from us although it was our fault.
Then today we have unnecessary digs heavily reported in the press from Mrs Fabinho alluding that we are successful only because of our owner. This is of course partly true. But why is that so many comments coming out of the Liverpool camp and ex-players seem to me have an enormous chip on their shoulders. A great club and a great team should be above this. Guys on here are not like that. Yes we are all biased, me more than most, but we also understand that nothing is forever. Where were we when Shankly and Paisley etc were around? Nowhere. TAA is also one of those always sending messages that they will do this and do that. Look in the mirror son first of all!
Liverpool chaps on here why do you think this is. Add to this comments from the likes of Rush, Aldridge the Irish press etc. Liverpool and their supporters are far bigger than this. These comments are beginning to sound like sour grapes. We have rwo of the best sides in the world. Two domestic cups for Liverpool, just, the League for us, just. I don’t understand the backbiting or maybe it’s just another press non story._____________________________

The game should have been won in the first half.
In the semi first leg we should have been 4 up but it didn’t happen. Madrid continued with maximum luck in the final_____________________________

Hope they don’t steal it like they did against us. I bet Liverpool are glad they are playing Madrid tonight. They must win this barring a Madrid fluke.
So far only one team in it. Liverpool need to be less frenetic and a little more deliberate._____________________________
