Once again a break with convention. Used to be Champions at home in the first game. Tough start for us but 38 games…..

The best I can gauge from a sensible source is that agents fees etc were about £42m. Utterly ridiculous imo,but again that is the market. Of course these costs as always will be amortised over the period of the contract…5years I think.
Still a nonsense sum. It is immoral imo. So much for doing nothing. Dim view from me.

Ed. Because I think the FEE is £51m but that of course EXCLUDES extras. Who knows what those parasite agents take. Totally immoral imo.
But that is the market place.

Just on a more sane level we have just sold an Irish keeper to Southampton for £12m. That brings our net spend in this window so far at £39m. I also believe we will have one or two more in and out.

Here we go again with that racist fascist bastard ( excuse the language). He never mentions the financial impropriety of Real and Barcelona. He cannot stand the fact that Spain do not dominate.
We have been very careful to be within FFP.
He is another Boris Johnson all puff and populist rhetoric and no substance.
For interest you should look up his background.
                        A total racist arse

                          Nunez £64m rising to a possible £85m.
That’s a lot. Is he that good.
England were very poor tonight. Once again no creativity.

I wonder why there are so many negative comments about Haaland before he has kicked a ball?
Will he fit in, City will lose creativity, he doesn’t defend etc etc. The guy hasn’t had one training session yet.
Liverpool have acquired Darwin Nunez. Looks pretty good to me. But does he defend, is he creative!?
It’s nonsense of course. He hasn’t kicked a ball. But we don’t see such questions in the media.

Let’s all look forward to it…

When looking back at past transfers it’s important to take into account the inflation of the transfer market, but regardless, City have snapped up some serious bargains.

£54m seemed like quite a lot for Kevin De Bruyne back in 2015, even if he did enjoy an incredible 2014/15 season at Wolfsburg. But if City were to go out and buy a midfielder of his quality today, they’d do well to find someone for less than £100m. That no other major clubs chased the Belgian’s signature at the time shows City know a good deal when they see one.

A year later Pep Guardiola made Ilkay Gundogan the first signing of his City tenure, with the Blues paying Borussia Dortmund just £21m for the German midfielder. In the six years since, the 31-year-old has made over 250 appearances for the club, directly contributed to over 80 goals and has won four Premier League titles. While Gundogan’s early years at City were plagued by serious injury, his contribution still resembles incredible value for money.

Gabriel Jesus is another bargain buy that has repaid every penny of the initial £27m City invested in him. After arriving from Palmeiras in January 2017 Jesus adapted much more quickly to Premier League football than many South Americans do, although he has never truly been able to become City’s first-choice striker.

Signing Bernardo Silva for £43m was a masterstroke. Like De Bruyne, a player of his quality today would cost far more than that – should Barcelona step up their efforts to prise Bernardo away from the Etihad, the latest reports suggest that City would accept nothing less than €80m (£68m).
The best bargain in recent Premier League history has to be Oleksandr Zinchenko. Signed for just £1.7m in 2016, the Ukrainian was never intended to be a City regular, but a mixture of incredible talent and hard work has seen him play a selfless role as City’s backup left-back in recent years.

When Haaland is officially unveiled as a City player, he will become the latest in a string of clever deals. While the wages and agent fees involved in his deal have been well-publicised, the bottom line is that City have paid a transfer fee of just £51m. For the best young striker in the world, that is incredible.

City may spend a lot of money, but unlike some of their rivals, they spend it wisely rather than lumping it all on one marquee signing. Provided he is a success, Haaland will be further proof of that.

It seems according to the press Chelsea have already signed Jesus rather than Arsenal. Sterling is going to at least three clubs and Bernardo to Barcelona. We are apparently going to say “off you go” and never mind the fees. Oh and Zinchenko is off to Arsenal or was it Spurs?

Some great posts. For my sins I am a volunteer debt adviser at Citizens Advice and some of the people I help are in debt, cannot make ends meet and end up with genuine anxiety and depression.
Multimillionaire footballers do have pressures but believe me there is no comparison.
Last week I was helping a client with two kids, on benefits and £20,000 of debts, not knowing where to turn. She owed the equivalent of half a day’s wages of a EPL player. That’s pressure.

What is wrong is too much football. That’s the pressure. Athletes need to rest and recover.

I think the players were just mentally exhausted after a tough season. They really do need more of a break. Before they know it they will be on long pre-season tours and for City and Liverpool there is the Community Shield. Too much. Top athletes need to rest.

Mikus. The inflationary effect is enormous. When we spend £100m on Grealish it says everything. To me he is a very good player but world class? I don’t think so. Is he better than what we have? No.
So what must Foden be worth?
It means that say a bid is made for Declan Rice, who I think is good but not world class, what would you have to pay?
