Of course we get critical comments about the money coming in to City. Accept that but..and there is a big but! The club invested a fortune in the Academy. Not buying players but creating a top quality infrastructure to develop young players. Selling quite a number over the last few years has, if you look at the figures, has more than paid for the Academy, the women’s team and have substantial surplus to counter FFP.
This combined with good management is why, at the moment, we are at the top. I understand from the inside that Newcastle, now they have the backing, are going to follow the same blueprint
Ask the question. How much have the Glazers put into the Academy or Spurs (ignoring insider dealing). Even Liverpool invested into their Academy is nowhere as big.
What makes an economy or a business successful,
Long term investment. One reason why the UK economy is so behind.Just waiting for the old comments

Mikus….What a post! Actually you are right. The club have a defined and clear strategy. It is simple. Create a good team and replace a position when necessary not just buy anybody
THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT SAF DID to make United so successful._____________________________

I quite like Mount but is he top top class? Not sure. If he was would Chelsea have sold.

Squad
Keepers Ederson and Ortega
Defence Walker, Stones, Akanji,Dias,Ake, Gvardiol, Gomez, Lewis, Wilson-Esbrand
Midfield KDB, Foden,Kovacic,Nunes,Bernardo,Rodri, Phillips
Forwards Haaland, Alvarez, Doku, Grealish
That’s 22 players and just about 2 very good teams.
Let’s see how it goes 😏_____________________________

Agree entirely with your thoughts Ed.
Not saying we are the greatest.
Strategy: lose Gundogan sign Kovacic
Lose Mahrez sign Doku
Lose Laporte sign Gvardiol
KDB OUT for months sign Nunez
Sell Palmer for £42m
It may not work out and the incoming may not be as good but you can see the strategy. Older plus 30 age players replaced and refresh the squad.
If KDB returns fit it will be like signing a £100m player._____________________________

I wonder what Salah and his family think .
Riches beyond dreams and playing in a Muslim country. He would be a football god there.
He could get injured in the next game here and limit his career. How could he turn it down?
What a difficult decision 😪_____________________________

Ed What do you think of United’s transfer strategy.
Avoiding bias I get the feeling that much seems to have depended on a previous relationship with Ten Hag. Nothing wrong with that in principle but somewhat limiting. Net spend is pretty big but the loan deals suggest financial pressure
Interested to hear thoughts_____________________________

Palmer is a talented player for sure and I’m sorry to lose him. But £40m is a deal you can’t turn down. Even with today’s silly money and given what he’s shown so far, that’s far too much but I wish him well.
The only question is where will he play or will he be just a sub as at City.
On balance good business. We’ve done really well out of Academy players last year as well._____________________________

Not sure I wholly agree but maybe the point about Ten Hag I think is relevant. Time will tell.

From Forbes. Anyone agree,Ed?
There are talks going on to further reinforce the squad with Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella on loan to replace Luke Shaw, who has a long term injury; Fenerbahce’s goalkeeper Altay Bindir to come in as second choice behind Onana; and Sofyan Amrabat from ACF Fiorentina, who has been pining for a move to the Red Devils since the end of June. While they are not poor purchases in principal, it appears Manchester United’s transfer business – as shown over the past decade – is far more scattergun and fast and loose than that of City’s. There does not appear to be a complete system in-house to mould players to, and so far looks to be players being brought in under Ten Hag who have had a former relationship with the Dutch manager.

On another point.
The Spanish FA have asked FIFA to suspend them and thus not Spanish club or National side can complete, all because of what I view as an affectionate peck hardly fifty shades of grey.
It’s totally pathetic. You don’t need to be a genius to look behind the complaint. Perhaps instigated by certain individuals of the same persuasion as many of the women players. Live and let live I say but it’s hardly sexual assault.
Diversity will get another setback they are too stupid to realise it. Just like other campaigns._____________________________

Remember Bill Shankley and SAF. All great teams are built on defence.
This will be a very good point for Liverpool._____________________________
