6th September 2021 at 8:23 am #184450Yeah that’s it Mak. There’d always be a few very good players in the Irish side but that’s not really the case these days.

6th September 2021 at 1:50 pm #184473Don’t believe its right for only the top teams of each section in Europe to go through, it’s going to cause nations you want to see participating in the world cup missing out.

8th September 2021 at 3:21 pm #184643Much bigger test for England tonight v Poland away. England will need to keep Lewandowski under control.

8th September 2021 at 9:06 pm #184673Yeah, tough but I would say a rather animated and a lively contest it has been and on the hour 0-0 holding our own 🙂 🙂

8th September 2021 at 9:40 pm #184683Switched off for that spell and Poland probably deserved their equalizer. I don’t think there’s much in that as in the balance of play in the second half, England have been the more stronger team.

9th September 2021 at 3:20 pm #184701I changed my mind and did not watch City ladies against Real Madrid ladies but watched the England match.. I would not say it was a good match but I did think, England, as team, looked good. A few “leggy” players who should have been replaced on the 3/4 mark. but I could not see the sense in bringing Saka on, who was warming up. Polish defenders would have swallowed him up, not sure how Grealish/Sterling lasted so long. Ref in first half was poor but somebody must have had a word because he improved in the second half. This was much tougher opposition and our wide players did not get the service they previously enjoyed because they were too busy keeping the Polish threat quiet. Apart from the wonderful goal, Kane did not impress me and think he was the worst of the “leggy” players, Bamford should have come on. On the whole, not a bad performance but we need to improve now the teams will get tougher next stage

9th September 2021 at 3:58 pm #184709Think Southgate tripped up on substitutions again. Great goal from Kane I don’t think the draw will do us too much harm but it felt like a defeat coming when it did fabulous ball from Lewandowski though and a great header.

9th September 2021 at 4:21 pm #184715Southgate is getting caught out with negative tactics when England go a goal up to a half decent side. Cost them the euros and cost them last night. Fabulous squad of players and enough quality to be killing that game last night.

9th September 2021 at 4:27 pm #184716Agreed Sean. I don’t think it will trip us in the qualifiers but it well might assuming we make the Finals. Bit of soul searching required?😊

10th September 2021 at 7:37 am #184721Wenger is an attention seeker, a 2 year world cup will be overkill in so many ways, maybe not the actual event itself but the qualifiers take months to finalize in between every other competition. Teams would be fielding their 2nd eleven every 2nd game or even their 3rd choice team.

10th September 2021 at 7:51 am #184724That’s the thing, Blaze, the plan includes a quite substainial reduction in the qualifying nonsense and 3 less “international” breaks during the season.
I would think we would all like that part of the plan!

10th September 2021 at 9:59 am #184726Hi Chucky how does this actually work then if there’s less qualifying competitions, are top seeded clubs getting automatic entry or what exactly will the process be? My feelings is also that top seeded nations from continents should not need to qualify. They in any event should be there if it’s a world cup at its best

10th September 2021 at 10:18 am #184728Not 100% sure, but my understanding was there would only be 2 “slightly” longer international breaks (maybe 4 or 5 games) each season instead of the current 5 breaks… and a slight tweek to the qualifying so we don’t have 6/7 team groups with big-dogs and little-dogs pointlessly playing each other…
Basically it came across as more international games in the summer and less during the regular season.

10th September 2021 at 12:28 pm #184730Lot of meat to be put on the bones yet on this proposal and UEFA the ECA remain totally opposed to it as do seemingly some of the South American countries.
A World Cup without their support isn’t a World Cup and we could end up with a big split here between FIFA and UEFA etc which would be damaging for football as a whole.
Difficult one to predict currently.

10th September 2021 at 1:03 pm #184733The World Cup in Qatar is going to be a complete mess. It’s a disgrace it’s even happening. All about bribes and greed.
Complete mess for all the leagues. How are they going to manage thatWorld Cup is for the summer end of story. Should never have been agreed.
How many people have died building the stadiums etc? In humaneDreadful stuff
