Don’t know where you keep getting this 80 quid a beer from, cyber chum, I remember the article in question (at least I think I do!) and it was talking about a “package meal deal” that some hotel was offering which was 250 quid for the match, which included dinner and 3 “free” beers… so the journo in question, undoutedly trying to “jazz” it up a bit, decided dinner was 10 quid so the beers were 80…. π
All click bait (too which some silly sod near Leicester fell for! π )
Although, talking of beer, I did read the other day that the “locals” complained about all the beer tents so they’ve been both reduced in number and “moved” to places where the local’s can’t see them….
Still half expecting to see the whole thing cancelled and all the countries (at least the one’s with a chance of actully winning!) all relocating to London or somewhere that has a dozen or so football stadiums that are currently closed with a dozen or so of “Premiership” standard training grounds… π

I was there back in the day when it was awarded… had great fun telling the locals at the time “You have no idea what you’ve let yourselves in for!”…
Obviously don’t want it to happen, but I wouldn’t be surprised one little bit if it decends into utter chaos… lagered up “hooligans” vs ultra “intolerant” security forces… recipe for absolute disaster!

Read that Qatar are “paying” people from the Indian subcontinent to act as supporters so that the event appears popular. Not sure if true but wouldn’t surprise me. Will be interesting to what size crowds attend the games and where they actually come from.
A beer has been reported to be around Β£12.50. Apparently the local Qataris are not happy with the situation and want FIFA to stop selling alcohol at the stadiums.

I saw that, 3P’s, trying to now ban booze from the stadiums except for the 20,000 Euro plus whatever “rich bitch boxes”… this is all going to end in tears and very likely go down in history as the worst World Cup ever…

At circa Β£12 a pint and limited areas for drinking assuming it doesn’t get banned which I think is unlikely there are going to be very few drunken fans which can only be a good thing.
A month ago 3 million tickets for the World Cup had been sold. I expect the Stadiums in the main to be full except maybe for games between the lesser countries.
We all know that this World Cup is in the wrong place at the wrong time but there’s nothing that can be done about that now it’s about the football from Sunday now.

They’ll find a way, Puppy, we all know how daft/stupid/idiotic football fans will be, and despite all the “training”, Qatari “security forces” are not used to dealing with 1,000’s of lagered up football fans…
I was at Woodstock 99 which had the same “policy” of disignated drinking areas and ID tags and limits on how much beer you could buy (2 at a time)… and that was only 3 days with a couple of hundred thousand dumbass ‘Merican school kids (and me!)… and that turned into one of the biggest fiasco’s of all time… multiple the number of people (who happen to be idiotic football fans!) and chuck in 4 weeks of this… I genuinely don’t think it’s a case of ‘if’, but ‘when’… one fan will do something stupid like walk down the street with a can or bottle or something, the “heavies” will move in, his mates will join in… and there we go!!
The proof is in the pudding, no doubt, and we’ll see what happens…

I’m sure there will be an incident or two Chucky given the strictness of the regime and such large crowds in the country but I don’t think it will be that widespread.
There’s a lot of talking this World Cup down across almost areas but the horse has bolted now let’s wait and see what happens once the football gets underway.

I agree Sean it will be the football that makes the World Cup and like you I’m looking forward to the Football.
Seems like the ban on beers sales at the Stadiums will go ahead but it will still be available at fan parks should have all been sorted out a long while ago and it will almost certainly cost FIFA a return of some of Budweiser’s sponsorship fee.
