Adlab, there was lots of good matches I missed during this tournament due to work and looking back, absolutely loved the 10am games – just something different and peculiar from everyday routine of day-time television.
Huge Credit despite reservations from some of us here. In the end, we were WOWED 🙂

18th December 2022 at 9:16 pm #201778Had somebody trying to correct me on youtube from comments expressed of retro footage (pleasant all round).
It was a Friday, opening day from finishing a school day and watching the opening ceremony of Argentina v Cameroon where they ending up uncharacteristically losing this match 1-0 but reached the final with predominantly through Goycochea and Maradona albeit the loss to the then West Germany (1-0 (awful final))
I see a little parallel and correlation, ala Martinez and Messi. This time round though, they found their way to Glory.
Truly Magical. Those kids are going to remember this for a long time 🙂 🙂

18th December 2022 at 9:23 pm #201779Nil…just cos we’ve had a fantastic final and a tournament full of good matches should never stop anyone questioning Qatear or ‘having reservations’ about the Tournament.
Having said that, what a brilliant final and my pre Tournament bet of Argentina to win and Mbappe to win the Golden Boot has come off!!!! Mind you just pays off the earlier losses!!

18th December 2022 at 10:38 pm #201780HH, I don’t disagree with that at all. My personal ‘reservation’ essentially was a moan because I perceived this tournament as a disruption to the PL and just didn’t take to it.
Others I believe had reservations for their reasons. Some of which politically based on personal values and morals and rightfully so.
What I’m saying is in spite of all this, the Football really did Wowed as the tournament progressed. That was true to the bone despite question marks on standards and comparisons made to previous decades/world cups etc.
What I have been seeing with interest this evening is the angst thrown towards Gary Neville for his comments on ITV (Political) on the current Strikes in our country over pay (on his own positioning of being looked after by Qatar/ITV).
It’s sort of unearthed all the Political stuff which we are all aware of and haven’t by any means been dismissive of, but probably could have been left alone.
Football you have to say has turned to be the Winner whatever the country stands for.

19th December 2022 at 7:11 am #201781Glad that’s all over with…
Not the greatest World Cup, ignoring all the “political” nonsense, I thought the overall quality of football was quite poor, some exciting games but not good football at all, still not convinced at all by VAR (some of the reffing was diabolical!), and thankfully hardly any aggro at all!!
Engerland’s best chance of winning it for a while but it got away!
Now on to the PREM… I wonder how many of the Argie’s will be back for Boxing day! My money is on “not many!”…

19th December 2022 at 8:04 am #201782Agree with you Nil despite all the obvious problems football was the winner.
I really enjoyed this World Cup despite the fact it shouldn’t have been held in Qatar and the Final was the icing on the cake.

19th December 2022 at 10:13 am #201785Yeah, agree Nine and all true re Qatar. It should never have been approved to be staged their in the first place. Next one I’m led to believe in 2026 will be at the States.

19th December 2022 at 10:18 am #201786Chucks, that’s pretty much all accurate mate. There were shocks and surprises though and the unexpected. Who would have thought for example, Brazil being knocked out? Germany not even qualifying.
This for me is what kept up the interest levels. Sure that standards weren’t overly great, but the competition I thought was immense. Morocco for example really did the tournament proud.

19th December 2022 at 12:11 pm #201790OooOooOoOooOoooo…. according to the letter of footballing lore and video replay’s, Argie’s 3rd goal should have been chalked off as they had too many players on the pitch…. love those French tears! 🙂

19th December 2022 at 12:19 pm #201791Garry Neville needs to decide whether he wants to be a politician or a pundit.

19th December 2022 at 1:33 pm #201792It’s turned out to be an unnecessary can of worms. My instinct suggests just thoughts expressed on the back of boxing off the final day of the tournament. It’s matters that are currently critical and affect our day-to-day lives.
Should that have been expressed on a football programme? I don’t know is my answer. At the same time, the reaction for me has been blown out of proportion.
Elsewhere Becks has been hugely lambasted in recent for taking Qatar money whilst still having involvement with UNICEF. There are supposedly double-standards. I also believe though, any of those out there with the opportunity to earn a serious wedge from Qatar would grab it with both hands if it meant changing your whole life.

19th December 2022 at 2:42 pm #201793But, for the sake of argument, can the likes of David “worth about 300 million quid” Beckham really use the “doing it for my family” excuse??? Really???
None of them can, whoever signs on for the free money… greedy f*****s the lot of them!!!

19th December 2022 at 3:11 pm #201794Definitely free money Chucks. I’m not sure what it has achieved on both parties other than one party benefitting. Qatar doesn’t need the publicity especially him promoting!
