1st December 2022 at 9:38 pm #201411Not watched any of the games over the last couple of days, but wow, these results coming in! Creates more interest. Boring seeing the same teams progress all the time, so nice to see shocks!

2nd December 2022 at 8:05 am #201413Absolutely scandalous that the wc was held in Qatar. I’m over that now and I’ve really enjoyed. Never saw a final round were nearly all countries coukd still qualify. Sone real exciting stuff last night
Been some brilliant games. Also I haven’t heard of any trouble over there with fans which is great. Some bizarre decisions etc but it being good.
Was in heaven last week with games at ten in the morning then through the day. Perfect time slots. I totally get why some people have boycotted the World Cup but I love football to much and I’ve really enjoyed it

2nd December 2022 at 8:16 am #201414I’ll admit I suspended my boycott and watched the Germany v Costa Rica game and the drama from that and the Japan Spain game was fantastic. The atmosphere in the stadium not so much, not when you watch previous World Cups it all seems very sterile.
One thing I have noticed is the lack of interest. I live in the 4th largest city in Germany but I’ve not seen a single flag, face painted or advert for communal viewing. There’s little talk about it, think maybe the timing I wrong as Germans are too interested in their Christmas markets! Obviously what little interest there was has now completely evaporated!
One bright note for the Germans is Musiala, that kid looks like he will be a top top player. Another one to add to the Chelsea let go massive mistake list?

2nd December 2022 at 8:29 am #201415Musiala is a massive mistake for England too Threeps. I realise there might not have been much we could do once he had his head turned. I guess we can blame Chelsea for that too though 😁 as he might not have had his head turned had he stayed there. Bellingham, Rice and Musiala would have been without doubt the best midfield 3 in International football. Better than France even IMO. Still, you win some, you lose some. We snatched Rice and Grealish where we lost Musiala.

2nd December 2022 at 8:43 am #201416Not sure how you can blame Chelsea for Musiala Ed they did everything they could for the boy including paying for his education they didn’t want him to leave and offered him a new contract but he decided to leave for Bayern. You can’t hold players against their will.
As Jody Morris Academy Manager at the time said “Chelsea academy didn’t let him go, he wanted to leave and go to Bayern and they couldn’t do anything about it.”

2nd December 2022 at 9:12 am #201420One of ‘the’ most ridiculous calls I’ve seen in my life. I give up with VAR.

2nd December 2022 at 10:04 am #201424The Japan call was very tight but as they demonstrated on Sky this morning the view from above showed a fraction of the ball was touching the line and on that basis the goal was good.

2nd December 2022 at 10:26 am #201426“New angles from Japan’s winning goal against Spain have emerged, providing further proof that is was CORRECT to stand.
Images clearly show that while most of the ball had left play, a small curvature remained level with the byline by Kaoru Mitomo’s crossed assist.
Ao Tanaka fired in the winner, Japan’s second goal, less than three minutes after the equaliser to turn the game around and top Group E.
While it’s a cruel way for Germany to bow out, there can be no complaints. VAR did its job correctly.” Daily Express 2/12

2nd December 2022 at 11:26 am #201429Wouldn’t say there’s a stand out team really bar France maybe. Maybe England do have a chance, though I think it would probably be France vs England in the quarters the way the draw is set up.

2nd December 2022 at 11:44 am #201430Nine, I find that part of the scenario a farce and forensic mate, I really do. Maradona’s handball actually now looks more ‘legit’! First viewing from the naked eye to me shows the circumference is over. One could probe into the width of the markings and noticing too the possibility of the line going skew!
I don’t blame technology. I blame the interpretation and the person/s making the final decision. I’m not a fan of Germany in particularly, but for them to crash out in this fashion is a sheer let down and we’re talking here Fifa World Football.

2nd December 2022 at 12:29 pm #201431Nil, yeah disappointing to go out on the very very narrowest of decisions. I thought the Express summed it up well. The aerial view showed the ball was touching the line VAR had to give the goal on that basis.
