Great goal by Messi but he did little else, heβs one of my favourite ever players and I find it sad to see him a mere shadow of his former self. Unfortunately age is like Kryptonite.

28th November 2022 at 7:45 am #201325As I suggested on page 1, entrusting Roberto Martinez with that “Golden Generation” will go down in history as a monumental mistake for Belgium. De Bruyne their only remaining world class player has been crap and his attitude even worse with his comments about how Belgium won’t win it because they’re too old π

28th November 2022 at 8:10 am #201326Yeah, thought the snail-munchers would the champions of lesser known “World Cup Meltdowns” competition that is always run in conjunction with the World Cup…
The wheels have certainly fallen off there…

28th November 2022 at 8:21 am #201327This has to be the most unpredictable World Cup for quite some time I suspect that might turn around in the knock out stages.

28th November 2022 at 8:40 am #201328Don’t know puppy, I think we’re heading for the “pressure” time, going to be a lot of 0-0’s and peno shoot-outs when the knockouts start, espescially games that will involve the more “unexpected” qualifiers… have a feeling it’s only going to get more boring with only a rare exception here and there.

28th November 2022 at 9:17 am #201329Chucky, yes certainly the pressure of the knock out stages and fear of losing will play it’s part.

28th November 2022 at 10:47 am #2013301-1. I do actually quite like both of these teams with the influence of both sets of Managers – well known.

28th November 2022 at 10:53 am #201332Ed, that may well be possibly taken for granted re certain teams and this is why I use England as an example. This also mirrors what we experience in the Prem when we’re not treating the so called lesser teams the respect they deserve.
There are teams I’ve seen so far playing at least with more courage and they’d be more deserving in my books.
It’s interesting on the subject of standards internationally. Of course, for those who have experience as fans watching tournaments down the years, they would notice.
Some matches have been dull, but in the group stages, maybe that’s expected.

28th November 2022 at 10:55 am #201333Chucks she captained the Captain the Women’s Team mate and a much more of an example and a role model than what I see of the younger generation of today! She is relevant and I’ve placed her in this very thread! π

28th November 2022 at 12:22 pm #201336Bit more difficult Chucky as Jill Scott has never played for Spurs. Give her 10 games and she might have done though!π€£π€£π€£

28th November 2022 at 2:56 pm #201337Seems very little consistency in this tournament with the second round of games in terms of trying to place where teams are at with some teams looking good in one game but then not the next or vice versa. Does go to show how big a factor psychology is in the game with teams either getting too comfortable after a good performance or having to react to a poor performance in the previous game. You see it obviously in the league as well but are seeing it all play out in a clear snap shot in this world cup over a short space of time.
This is what ultimately separates the better managers – those who keep their teams focus sharp in every game rather than relying on psychological factors from short term effects or results on how their teams perform.

28th November 2022 at 4:43 pm #201338One frustrating thing about this wc is the amount of fouling. Sone bad tackles and play is stopped far to much. To much stoppages with subs. Is it the same as pl were you have to use 3 subs at once if all two have already being used?
Iβve enjoyed most of it but what has happened to the art of scoring free kicks from just outside the box? They have been atrocious. Constantly ballooned over or hit the wall.

28th November 2022 at 4:48 pm #201339And then thereβs the crosses or corners that donβt even beat the first man Sean.
Brazil should have taken Bobby. Still a clever player that can find a goal.

28th November 2022 at 6:21 pm #201342France and Brazil the only ones with 100% records. Tend be needing time in the second half to find the net and narrow victories.
Nothing that exciting really.
Iran Wales and Serbia Cameroon have probably been the most entertaining matches.
