So are the BBC. Wages and lack of fee. It’s probably the equivalent of £50m fee over 5 years plus £200k a week wages.

12th February 2019 at 9:13 am #33433I know everywhere is saying 400k a week, but I’m having a hard time believing it…
Yes, he’s a good player, but not that good… I blame YooUtd with their Sanchez cash… 🙂

12th February 2019 at 9:21 am #33434As Alfie says “It’s probably the equivalent of £50m fee over 5 years plus £200k a week wages” Which is exactly how Sanchez ended up earning what he did at United too.
Top players available on a free transfer have the opportunity to negotiate silly wages because the Club they are signing for avoids a massive transfer fee.

12th February 2019 at 10:02 am #33435Not debating the maths, that all adds up, it’s just crazy money now and I reckon there’s more than a few other players with 6/18 months left thinking they might just walk when it’s up (Wee Erik and Toby from my boys for example).
My bigger issue, ignoring the “fooking stoopid money for kicking a ball” point, is the money is going out the game. The Goonies lose a nice big fat check that they could have bought more players with (not that sorry as it the Goons but you know what I mean) that could have then been spent on players from smaller clubs…
Off course, you’ll also have players from smaller clubs with 6/18 months left thinking the same thing… it’s the amount of money simply going out the game that bothers me. This will all filter down the leagues, and a lot of smaller clubs will suffer if this trend continues.

12th February 2019 at 10:15 am #33436Agree its stupid money Chucky and it will encourage others to do the same. If I was Hazard I would stay at Chelsea next season and then sign for Real on a £ million a week the following season. 🙂

12th February 2019 at 10:30 am #33437Why wouldn’t he? If Ramsey can get 400k per week, then Hazard has to be in the 600k bracket, especially when you add another 12 months “football inflation”.
Same for Toby and Wee Erik at our place. Not 100% sure what they’re on now, I would guess in the 80-100k area, both can easily triple that and more, is they wait another season (and I reckon a year in that shiny new stadium won’t harm that plan!).
The only way clubs can “combate” this, is basically give new contracts every 12/24 months to the star players, close to matching this level of
stupiditysalary.Forget FFP, I reckon this could be a bigger danger to the game.

12th February 2019 at 10:56 am #33438I don’t feel sorry for Arsenal one bit. This is their own doing and it’s simple to avoid. If a player doesn’t renew within a defined time period whether that be 12/24 months or whatever, then you sell him. If they’re happy to pay the player’s transfer fee through hugely inflated wages in 12 months time, they’ll be happy to pay the equivalent transfer fee now.

12th February 2019 at 11:26 am #33439You’re right Ed it’s Arsenal’s doing and not for the first time.
If players don’t sign new contracts they have to be sold at 12/24 months no matter who they are or you accept the consequences of losing a valuable player for nothing.
After that the players Agent will negotiate the best deal possible for his client which with no fee involved is exactly what happened with Ramsey.
The big problem is the impact that these big money free transfer deals have on the other players in the squad who then see themselves as undervalued.

12th February 2019 at 12:08 pm #33442That’s the thing Goldie, I can see players with 12 months left quite happy to wait now and not accept a transfer.
Take Wee Erik, 12 months left this summer, if he goes this summer, Spuds get a transfer fee, Erik gets maybe 200/300k. Wait 12 months months, sign on a free, he’ll get what 400? 500? 600? That’s anywhere between 10 and 15 million A YEAR more, that’s anywhere between 40 and 60 million EXTRA…. who wouldn’t wait 12 months for that??
Gee, even players with 24 months are going to be thinking twice about signing new contracts, let alone 12 months…

12th February 2019 at 12:19 pm #33444But Chucky, this isn’t a new phenomenon. I’m sure it goes back even further but McManaman famously did this when he joined Real for a (at that time) ridiculous wage. Players aren’t stupid enough to only just now realise they’ll get more money if there’s no transfer fee involved.

12th February 2019 at 12:22 pm #33445It’s a bit of a risk to take as a player to let your contract run down rather than take a new one with 12/24 months to go. One big injury and you can kiss goodbye to that bumper new wage

12th February 2019 at 2:09 pm #33454Italian media are saying it is a £280 p/w deal, which of course is a huge wage and Ramsey defo is not good enough to deserve! But,what can you do? Apparently he refused to sign a new contract @ Arse cos he demanded £300k…

12th February 2019 at 2:33 pm #33458“Juventus are playing down Aaron Ramsey’s reported £400,000-a-week pre-tax wage to help avoid any risk of dressing room unrest over the Welshman’s salary.
The 28-year-old confirmed on Monday he will leave Arsenal at the end of the season after 11 years in north London having finally agreed terms on a four-year contract with the Serie A champions.
There is some disagreement over the exact details with a key source close to the player indicating he will receive close to the £400,000-a-week figure yet in Italy, the club are privately claiming it is much closer to £250,000-a-week before tax.” Evening Standard
I guess we’ll never really know but the above might be the reason for that Mav.

12th February 2019 at 2:42 pm #3345927-Apparently that piece of shite called Fellaini is getting paid over £200k p/w in China,so why should any “ proper footballer” settle for anything less? Hazard should demand £1m p/w.Period!

12th February 2019 at 3:13 pm #33462Player power at United and player power at Chelsea Mav. It’s very difficult to deal with despite the faults of Mourinho and Sarri it’s easier to get rid of the Manager than the players.

12th February 2019 at 3:37 pm #33463Who’d want to be a manager these days?? Players have far too much power now… and far too much wages. Maureen was a prize plumsack of the highest order, but he wasn’t that wrong, was he?
