Goldie… it seems Sarri is on that slippery slope with a big pool of inevitability at the bottom of it, who’s next in your opinion?
Personally, I think unless the Chelsea are willing to bite the bullet and pretty much guarantee the new bloke 2 years, regardless of results, it’s all a bit pointless… and very expensive (and more money going out the game! That’s my new bugbear!).

12th February 2019 at 7:08 pm #33473It would have to be between Zidane and Allegri I think for Chelsea and I think they’ll get a free run at both now we’re seemingly sticking with Ole. Allegri would be a real coup while Zidane may be worth a gamble. Deschamps worth a shot? Lamps?

12th February 2019 at 7:57 pm #33478Chucky, it was a risk appointing Sarri with only Napoli being the top Club he’s managed and he didn’t start managing until he was 40 either.
Sarri was appointed on the basis of the style of football Napoli played and to do away with the counter attacking football that had served Chelsea so well since 2004/05 and introduce a new brand of possession based, high pressing offensive football so completely different and it was always going to take time and different players too.
Putting aside the recent disappointing results I’m not sure Sarri had helped himself too much recently on a number of fronts.
I get the feeling that the Club would like to give Sarri more time the next few weeks are imo pivotal though and Managers are only as good as their results and I think the next few weeks will probably determine what happens going forwards.
I would like it to work out for Sarri but I’m not sure it will now.
Where will we go from here if it doesn’t I haven’t got a clue?
If Sarri goes in the short term and Zola takes over he could do an Ole and despite his previous managerial failures if he has a bit of an Ole effect and perhaps wins the EL it would be difficult not to give him the chance.
But there will always be someone prepared to take it on personally if we could tempt Eddie Howe away from the Bournemouth role I would be inclined to go for him with a DOF with gravitas above him but he a bit like Sarri might be another risky appointment.

12th February 2019 at 8:07 pm #33483As Carragher said last night on MNF, Chelsea (or rather Abramovich) have never historically liked going through change and so any pain to build something up. The bottom line question for Chelsea will be βCan someone else get more out of this group of Chelsea players?β I think we know they would.

12th February 2019 at 8:18 pm #33486Not a policy that’s worked against Chelsea previously though Mikus given all of the success .
I think there was a desire and may still be a desire to change the way Chelsea play and give Sarri the time and within reason resources to do that but given what’s recently happened I think Roman will need to see some more positive results than in the last few weeks to encourage him to do that.

12th February 2019 at 8:18 pm #33487Some interesting names and thanks for the post, Goldie… would agree Lamps is a bit “early”, not too sure about Zola and the OGS bunce theory (maybe it’s wishful thinking but I think the whole OGS is going to backfire by about next October for reasons I’ll save for another debate!), would love to see Howe in charge at a Top 6 club, but due to a combination of a non-English spine and simple player power, think Chelsea is possibly the worst Top 6 for a young English manager, to be honest.
I reckon it would be a toss-up between ZZ Head-butt and Austin Allegro myself, would like to see ZZ Headbutt, find out how much of a “fluke” the CL’s were with that squad…

12th February 2019 at 9:25 pm #33509Quite so Nine. Be it Scolari to Hiddink, or Villas Boas to Di Matteo, or Di Matteo to Benitez. And all those changes led to trophies.

14th February 2019 at 2:08 pm #33625So, according to those “in the know”, our Wee viking fella is off this summer for a cool 110 Million bottle tops, with Spuds planning on getting that CM from PSG with the curly wurlies, some bloke called Soler from Spain, a lad from Holland called Van Der Beek, and either Maddison from Leicester or Brooks from Bournemouth… Vicky is going two perhaps…
Don’t know if that is a good trade or not… would like Wee Erik to stay, myself, but if he don’t sign, he don’t sign and the man from Del Monte says “bugger off then!”…

14th February 2019 at 2:13 pm #33627Β£110m with just a year left on his contract for Eriksen sounds a tad optimistic to me. I think Chelsea will struggle to get that for Hazard in similar circumstances.
Why will buying Club’s pay that much for players they can sign for free 4 months later?

14th February 2019 at 8:24 pm #33678AnonymousAbsolutely no chance of getting Β£110m for a player with 12 months left. Is that really all Erikson has? How did Spurs allow this to happen? Jesus Christ, sell him with no less than 18 months! You’re just stripping his sell on value if you let it go beyond that. I mean really, the marker needs to be 2 years but it’s never straight forward.

15th February 2019 at 7:22 am #33688The “story” with Wee Erik is, apparently, the new contract has been on the table for yonks, but he wants to go to one of the big Spanish sausages if he ever leaves Spuds, but doesn’t want to price himself out of a move… if they don’t come in for him, expect to see a contract extension rather than a whole new contract so to speak (no idea what the difference is at the end of the day to be honest!).
