2nd November 2021 at 1:04 pm #188035Banjo I honestly think neither conte or spurs looking long term anyway as long term ambitions don’t match. I think it’s about returning you to champs league, maybe just my guess.

2nd November 2021 at 1:08 pm #188036If Conte can get Spurs back into the CL Lucky I think most Spurs would be happy with that not an easy task though because there’s really only one place to aim for currently.

2nd November 2021 at 1:11 pm #188038Exactly Nine, neither levy nor conte naive enough to demand more from each other than to do all they can to get back in champs league by May 2023 👍

2nd November 2021 at 4:37 pm #188056Think possibly the Villa Manager or even Rafa on the Radar for the next guy out. Seems like a bit of a cut-throat environment which for 10 games into the season is a tad harsh, but that’s the industry we now live in.

The only way I would welcome this is for John Terry to be Assistant Manager and be side by side. Otherwise, Gerrard to be Assistant Manager which won’t happen.
Aston Villa is a Big Club and for me on a bigger scale to Scotland and Rangers. By no means watering down a tremendous achievement of not only achieving a Title win, but also unbeaten and smashing 100 points plus.
The Premier League Top Flight is grown competitive more than ever. Their Supporters I am sure would expect beyond mid-table. There needs to be players brought in so investment would be needed. My fear for Steven would be him not achieving expectations and then be fired.

9th November 2021 at 12:42 pm #188698AnonymousIt would be hard enough for someone like Rafa to go in and not end up fired within 2 years, at a club like Villa. To have someone inexperienced like Gerrard, who’s at a delicate phase of his managerial career, it could end it before it properly starts.
Look at Keane and Sunderland. There are some jobs that you just don’t take. Best thing Gerrard could do is to wait for a project that isn’t in retrograde. If he takes a poisoned chalice, he’ll no longer be considered a man with potential.

9th November 2021 at 1:06 pm #188700If he’s offered the role Villa would be a step up for Gerrard imo if he’s going to develop as a Manager he needs to do it in the PL not in a two horse League.
Key would be negotiating a healthy January//Summer transfer budget before signing on the dotted line. Be interesting to see how it all plays out.

9th November 2021 at 4:10 pm #188705AnonymousNine, it technically would be a step up and I agree regards the 2 horse league. I still think Villa is in a poor phase to be going to, as an inexperienced manager though.
If someone who had an established reputation went there and they ended up getting the sack in 2 years, they would bounce back. I’m not saying that someone like Gerrard definitely wouldn’t but if he bides his time, for a club that aren’t falling back as a result of selling their version of Gerrard (as a player), he’d be better for it.
Having said that, Villa are not without ambition. I don’t know much about Leon Bailey but he wasn’t cheap. Buendia and Ings are excellent players, if they can learn to get the most out of them. The problem with Villa is that Grealish was pretty much irreplaceable for them. They might get someone in who will get the most out of the quality players they have. They do have some other good players who are maybe not playing as well this season…
I guess we’ll have to see if Gerrard is genuinely offered it and what he thinks he could get out of these lads. If the board were willing to back him with more, it could be tempting but they’d want to temper their expectations and that and money spending don;t often go hand in hand.
An interesting one to keep an eye on though. I do one day want to see Gerrard back in the PL. I sometimes give out a bit about the masses of LFC fans who want him to be handed the job with us. I think he’s got to show that he can be a top level manager first and we’ll talk then. Your first impression is a lasting one and all that good jazz.

9th November 2021 at 4:18 pm #188706Mak, yes I suspect that Villa are measuring Gerrard’s lack of PL experience but potential against perhaps appointing a more experienced Manager.

9th November 2021 at 4:40 pm #188710The thing with villa job is that the fans expect push for European places and any manager who goes there will be judged on that, after a few seasons it will be expected.
Its a really tough ask as besides pool, City and Chelsea there is utd, arsenal, spurs, west ham, Leicester Everton and soon to be Newcastle. Including villa that would be 11 clubs fighting for European places or taking top 3 out of it 8 clubs fighting for 3 places. It’s almost mission impossible as reality suggests avoiding relegation this year and then finishing mid table next few seasons would be good going, but the expectations are top 6 in next few seasons.
