Surely Broja will be getting a chance now Mikus after such a good loan spell and with Lukaku gone. If he doesn’t get a chance now, he never will (at Chelsea).

24th July 2022 at 5:23 pm #197073I think they lack established quality at the top of the pitch. That’s asking an awful lot to pin hope on to a bright 20 year old.

24th July 2022 at 5:39 pm #197074No that’s fair enough but when you consider the amounts they’ve spent on Werner and Lukaku, both established goalscorers, and the performances both have been giving, they can’t be much worse off trying someone who looked very good at Southampton last season. I imagine they’ll be reluctant to spend big om a striker, particularly as Lukaku is still very much on the books for now.

24th July 2022 at 6:00 pm #197075Lukaku has never really been considered a top, top striker in the premier league, so I never saw that working well. Werner was not yet proven in the premier league. Lewandowski would have been a good target – could have done a job for a year until someone else was identified – though Laporta reporting apparently that Chelsea did go for him.

24th July 2022 at 6:31 pm #197077At the alleged £50mil fee (reports suggesting Barca paid that much but asked for it to be reported as less), I suspect any Chelsea links were quickly put to bed by Chelsea themselves. No sensible club is paying 50mil for a 34yr old. Chelsea are far too shrewd for that. Laporta is turning into a bit of a joke figure at Barca who I don’t trust one bit. It suits Barca to be able to say they got him ahead of other clubs, particularly when Bayern were reported to have been celebrating getting the fee they did for him.
I’m really not sure who Chelsea could get to be honest. All the top strikers have moved already (Haaland, Vlahovic, Nunez) or are unattainable (Kane, Mbappe Benzema). There really isn’t much out there in the market striker wise. You’re then forced to needing to take a gamble and buy potential. Hence, the logic IMO of giving Broja a go.

24th July 2022 at 6:35 pm #197079I think Broja is being slightly over hyped he only scored 6 goals in 32 games last season which was a lower scoring rate than Lukaku but I would definitely give Broja a go at Chelsea’s this season as for Lukaku seemingly there’s an agreement with Inter for next season too.

24th July 2022 at 6:35 pm #197080Half the price of Lukaku though and most probably would have done a better job. Big mistake that for Chelsea last season.

24th July 2022 at 6:45 pm #197081Oh there’s no denying he’d do a better job than Lukaku. Lewandowski is the best striker in the world still IMO. But it’s absolute madness to pay that for a 34yr old with 1 year left on his contract. Besides, he’d have no doubt chosen Barca regardless. I just don’t think Chelsea would have paid that fee is my point (albeit a moot one), and rightly so IMO.

24th July 2022 at 6:47 pm #197082Ironically, Chelsea could probably do worse than Tammy Abraham as a striker and Tomori at CB, two players let go possibly prematurely. That in itself is a slight warning to them regarding the risk of the same happening with Broja IMO.

24th July 2022 at 7:50 pm #197084Spot on Ed I don’t want us to make the same mistakes with Colwill and Broja as we did with Tammy and Tomori. Although I believe we do have a buy back clause on Tammy Abraham.
