Agree entirely about Ederson goat. His footwork and distribution is astonishing. A half volley sideways pass to walker with pin point accuracy had people mouths open aghast vs Spurs.

19th December 2017 at 3:52 pm #9271CM, Goat has a point, the best side is not necessarily the one with all the best players, but a team which is greater than the sum of its parts. DDG needs to be a great shot stopper, whereas Ederson doesn’t need to be.
Ederson plays in a manner that suits his team, and as such is their best option.
DDG is one of the best shot stoppers in the world at the moment, but that’s probably as he gets a lot of practice….Pagan

De Gea is not just a brilliant shot stopper. If you watch spain, his distribution is brilliant too. Ederson made a brilliant pass on Saturday, but I have seen De Gea make similiar passes in the past for United and Spain. That is why I said you have not seen De Gea play much to goat, De Gea’s distribution is brilliant and why a lot regard him as one of the best keepers today. It is easy to say Ederson fits Peps style of play because his feet work etc due to Citys style of play.
De Gea fits the Spanish style of play which is similiar to Citys style and Uniteds style of play too. United have conceded the same goals as City, yet City play football with a higher possesion. Which keeper would Pep prefer?

19th December 2017 at 4:31 pm #9274CM, which keeper would Pep prefer, I don’t know, however I’ve just called him but he hasn’t picked up, so he’s either busy or driving, I’ve left him a voice mail though, when he gets back to me I’ll update you….Pagan

19th December 2017 at 4:46 pm #9276Not sure that Man City, Spain and Man Utd, play a similar style of play, Only seen the latter park the bus this season…..Pagan

You have not watched United much this season then, Spain and City play similiar styles. United play some what differently, 2nd top scorers in the league do not tend to park the bus frequently, otherwise they would not be 2nd top scorers 😉

19th December 2017 at 4:53 pm #9278So they all play similar styles except one that plays somewhat differently, wow that’s some contradiction in one sentence…..Pagan

19th December 2017 at 5:04 pm #9281Apologies with the poor way of explaining things, but I was talking about De Gea fitting 2 different styles of football. But I suppose you already knew what I meant. Ain’t deflection on the actual topic of Ederson vs De Gea brilliant.

19th December 2017 at 5:17 pm #9282CM I watch a lot of footy, ask the wife. I have seen DDG a lot and I’m sorry he’s not in Edersons league for distribution. Alan Shearer thinks so as well, so does Danny Murphy, lineker etc in fact there’s loads saying Edersons distribution is the best they have seen. Best I’ve seen since Schmeichel
Watch the end of this clip.

I have to disagree. De Gea distribution when he first arrived was his strength, his shot stopping and strength in the box was his weakness.
Watch this video 2 minutes onwards, he plays some brilliant passes. He gets praised for similiar passes when he is in net for Spain, if he was at City he would most likely be doing it more often and people would notice it more.

19th December 2017 at 5:32 pm #9287Ok watched it??? I see good long balls, lots of keepers can do that. I saw nothing close mate, not a thing. Edersons control and passing is like an outfield player I do not see that with DDG

19th December 2017 at 5:40 pm #9289What I’m trying to say is I’ve watched a lot of football and I’ve watched every keeper there is and I’ve seen nothing like Ederson, the way he uses the ball is quite unique

19th December 2017 at 5:52 pm #9294DDG is the best keeper in the world partly because he gets so much practice every game, more than Neuer would get in few games.
goat-Agree re Hazard, just like in CR` case I really believe that he has to move to one of Barca/Real to become what CR7 did!_____________________________

19th December 2017 at 5:57 pm #9296Again Goat, I have to disagree. De Gea distribution when he is playing for Spain is top notch. Ederson is brilliant at it too at City. If Pep had a choice, he may choose Ederson as he has seen more of him off the field. De Gea has not played in a side that similiar style to Pep at club level, we do not see him as frequently playing from the back. And obviously I watch more United games than I do City, so I have seen what De Gea can do with ball using his feet. All round, De Gea is one of the best out there. The Spanish play from the back, their style resembles Citys and Barcelona and recently have done well. De Gea has been praised for his performances.
Due to De Gea not playing in a club side which play a similiar style to city, it is unfair to say what his distribution is like frequently at club level and whether Pep prefers Ederson to De Gea. Just like we have not seen Edersons shot stopping skills because we have only seen him play under Peps style of football. All round Ederson could be one of the best keepers out there, we just dont know it yet.

19th December 2017 at 6:06 pm #9300In days of old a goalkeeper was someone who wanted to play football but wasn’t good enough, now they’re footballers who can use their hands, got that comment from an FA course earlier this year, and there’s probably a bit of truth in it.
One thing I will say about Ederson is his ability’s to play relatively flat, accurate long balls. Most keepers tend to play higher loopier balls, the flatter the quicker it get there and the transition time for the opposition is less giving Man City in this case an advantage.
There are several fantastic keepers out there, and I would say both the Manchester clubs have probably got the best fit for their respective teams….Pagan
