Not sure we are in to be fair unless we go on some kind of amazing run which doesnβt look likely

21st December 2024 at 7:42 pm #216912If he did it would be very different to Klopp going. Klopp left the squad in a good state as we can see from this season results, Pep has let his squad grow old together and recruited badly in the last few seasons.

21st December 2024 at 9:26 pm #216913The thing with managers who dominate is I think they inevitably become more powerful at the club. And is it the case that fewer people start questioning them because of their success? The obvious exception to that is Ferguson at Utd. But then given Fergusonβs attributes I donβt think he ever took anything for granted as he took teams like Aberdeen to European success. And he obviously was very good at playing and developing the kids. With Pep, I think heβs hellbent on controlling all the fine details in a game to big players. When injuries occur, legs get older and confidence drops, does he end up suffocating the players with details rather than motivating them? That could put even more strain on relationships. Short of a buying quite a few new players, itβs increasingly difficult to see how he turns this around. I donβt think playing around with different positions and systems here and there will make much difference.

21st December 2024 at 10:17 pm #216914Pep’s interviews are almost ultra-chilled out and he obviously knows how to project himself, but I’m sure it’s a different facet portrayed away from the Camera.
Arsenal-Chelsea look like the ones fighting it out. Liverpool kinda hanging in there, but they had last season and they shot themselves in the foot.
Arne Slot looks like the man that’s about Alignment
Forest-Villa real-deals representing Midland Teams and Refreshing. League is The Best Ever. Do Not Take That Away π

22nd December 2024 at 8:40 am #216915Nil how on earth are Liverpool “hanging in there” when they are leading the league? If anyone is hanging in there it’s Arsenal as they know any further slip ups will probably rule them out contention. They can still win but they need to be almost perfect until the end of rhe season and hope Chelsea and Liverpool are not.
Ciry are done. I know some people refuse to rule them out as they have been on crazy winning streaks before but that was with better squads than what they have now. The quality they once had is now aged and the recent new recruits not a patch on what went before them.

22nd December 2024 at 10:29 am #216916Three Ps, quite the opposite re Arsenal so I would have to disagree a little at least. Jesus has found his feet. They are scoring quite a lot of goals too.
Chelsea are the most threatening, but my point is, even with the games in hand, our lead has been reduced and we could quite easily lose top spot. Sure, we’d be in contention, but even though this sounds negative, I don’t want us to go through what we went through last season.
These teams deserve the credit. Even Forest have been a strong opposition this season and we have to go there next month. I want to see us with the bit between our teeth to be ultra convinced, we’re the real deal this season.

22nd December 2024 at 12:04 pm #216917No threeps, i think city are done mate. I thought rodri was main reason but they look exhausted and not creating much.
Iβve absolutely no doubt they will bounce back and it be an absolute miracle if they won it did season
I still fancy arsenal as i am expecting us to have a blip (im hoping its now with dropping 4 points recently)
My reasons why are arsenal have been vert close last two seasons. The manager has the expierence of a challenge while slot does not. They also have played a lot of the top teams away.
Aresnal, liverpool and chelsea will never get a better opportunity then this. Liverpool should be favourites as we are in the driving seat. If we dont win today then i will seriously doubt us. Spurs are missing 3 of their regular back 5

22nd December 2024 at 12:05 pm #216918I would present slightly different views… Ferguson wasn’t the exception… I agree he had a longer period of success to Pep be it not winning a ‘representative’number of Champions league to echo his dominance and squad over that lengthy period…
Like Pep is probably doing, he departed leaving a tired, old squad for the next manager … unlike Pep he built a strong squad through his purchases and academy… Pep has sold a succession of youth talent he should have nurtured…._____________________________

22nd December 2024 at 12:23 pm #216919Sean, I don’t think anyone predicted how much City would drop off to he honest. Yes any team would miss Rodri but it’s more than that. I think the City golden generation is over and the team needs a rebuild of higher quality than the likes of Phillips, Salvinho and Nunes.
Nil, Arsenal had a good result yesterday but they drew at home against Everton the week before. Jesus isn’t an elite striker, he scored a few this week but then could easily go 6 months without a goal. Arsenal could still win the PL but everything has to go their way as there is already a points deficit. Your reasoning doesn’t make any sense.
And yes we could be 2nd by the end of today, we could also extend the lead. Why worry about it? Clearly Chelsea are in the fight and there will be twist and turns before the end. But Arsenal are really just hanging on.

22nd December 2024 at 2:52 pm #216921Certainly amusing when Pool fans are the only fans who wouldn’t want to be in the position Pool are actually in… π
Goonies will be up come the end of the season… but, from the few games I’ve seen them play, I’m not sure they’ll win enough games to win the title, they’re not blowing teams away all the time, and one the men in black cotton on to the Dark Arts at corners and set-pieces, I think they’ll come unstuck
It’s those Jammy Todgers who are the real dark horses, they’re 2 billion 200 player 5 manager splurge has finally found them with a manager who has managed to find a pretty decent starting 11 and they were never going to be short on players for the bench… (still can’t work out how they’ve got away with it!)
I reckon thats the Top 3… but it will be Pool, Todgers & Goonies in that order… as for 4th? That really is a guess…

22nd December 2024 at 3:31 pm #216924Against Spurs we somehow conceded 4 goals from 0.67 XG. Today we’ve conceded 3 goals from 1.11 XG (of which the penalty was 0.8XG). I don’t think we’re structurally that bad defensively. We’re just making a lot of individual errors whether it be through poor confidence or whatever. Regardless of the reason, we badly need a confidence boosting win soon or this will be hard to turn around.

22nd December 2024 at 4:06 pm #216928Chucky you wrote this after Ipswich beat you at home π
67% vs 33%
552 passes vs 258
83% pass accuracy vs 66%
17 attempts vs 8
12 corners vs 2
10 fouls vs 19
0 points vs 3β¦ πNot going to say they were βluckyβ, but the footballing Gods were smiling upon them!
Of course I’m not reading too much into the stats but a scoreline can deceive also in terms of reflecting a game. Obviously goals are the only thing that counts though

22nd December 2024 at 5:26 pm #216930I don’t wanna jinx this, but boy am I feeling happy π 3-1 so far. We can’t take this for granted, even 4-1 up. We’re conceding a goal we shouldn’t have, but credit to Maddison.
Come On Reds, keep this up.
