2nd September 2018 at 7:14 pm #26067Less than a week ago, Poch was the best manager the league had seen and Mourinho was a has-been. Things change so quickly in football. I’m sure the Spurs fans won’t mind me saying this as they’d rather he stayed, but it amazes me that Poch keeps getting talked about for the top jobs after achieving nothing at all yet.
Mourinho lives to fight another day after a decent away win. Still a long way to go to even be back in top 4 contention though.

2nd September 2018 at 8:14 pm #26069AnonymousEd – people talk poch up because he’s overachieved everywhere he’s been based on his budgets. Spurs have one of the lowest net spends in the leauge and By far the lowest wage budget in the top 6. Yet he is getting us consistently in to the champions league, finishing ahead at least two of United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and city every season. Don’t get me wrong he needs to start winning trophies but I think if he had a good mix between youth and financial support he’d do very well.
Today poch had a bad day. All managers have them.

2nd September 2018 at 8:27 pm #26070Oh don’t get me wrong Pax, he’s definitely over achieved but it annoys me that people seem to think it’s as simple as saying “well if he over achieved there, then he can over achieve at an elite club.” It’s very rarely the case. Moyes consistently over achieved for years at Everton, with one of the lowest net spend budgets in the league year on year and yet he was terrible at Utd. Ranieri over achieved with Leicester and yet has struggled whenever he’s had a top club. Dyche has over achieved at Burnley etc etc. He’s been gifted probably the best striker in the world at the moment and inherited the likes of Eriksen, Lloris etc. I’m not denying he’s done a good job but I think he still has it all to prove.
As well as that, he gets away with saying things like he might just play the kids in the FA Cup as it’s not his priority. You just wouldn’t get away with that at any of the sides who are constantly under pressure to win things.

2nd September 2018 at 8:45 pm #26071AnonymousCan’t disagree with anything you said. And if I’m honest I don’t think he would cut it at one of the big clubs. But at the moment it’s completely hypothetical and he can’t be judged on something that has never happened and also based on where others have failed. Poch has his flaws and game management is definitely one of them. However I think if he had a bigger squad then it would be easier for him. His only attacking option today was llorente who is absolute gobshite. Levy doesn’t help but as I said poch does have his flaws. If we concede the first goal we tend to recover well. When we lose a lead it all goes to shit and usually we concede a second in quick succession. That is down to the managers inability to change things. Not making a sub til the 80th minute was insanity. We had winks Wanyama and dier on the bench yet left dembele on til it was too late. Left davies on until the 90th minute despite him failing at everything he tried today. As I said today he fucked it big time and deserves criticism.

2nd September 2018 at 9:13 pm #26072Yeah agree that he can’t be judged on a hypothetical scenario and simply because others have failed doesn’t mean he will. I hope he sticks at it for a while longer anyway and proves me wrong. It will be interesting to see what he can do when he starts getting more money to spend.

2nd September 2018 at 9:18 pm #26073Settle down guys…..wait until first 10 games are over and we should see some real strengths/weakness, no matter who they are. Judgements now, way too early

3rd September 2018 at 10:03 am #26076There is no way Poch should be compared to Jose! Jose has had [like Pep],limitless budgets anywhere he has been, whereas Poch has worked miracles with little or no money! Poch has transformed players like Eriksen and Kane into world class players they are now, whereas Jose has done the opposite with players like Martial and Pogba.

3rd September 2018 at 1:49 pm #26077Not taking anything away from Poch because I think he’s a very good Manager but to say Mourinho has only won by out spending his rivals is a tad misleading given what he achieved in winning the CL with both Porto and Inter competing against Clubs with much bigger budgets.

3rd September 2018 at 3:10 pm #26078Brian that’s it. It’s 4 games on
Alison has made one mistake and you swear it was the end of the world. I’ve read he’s poor with his feet then people really have never watched him regularly
The man oozes confidence. His passing had been a major part in our first four games
Last week Jose’s loses two games and people are talking about him being sacked ffs
This week it’s now Alison is no good.hes been excellent since he came. Excellent at set plays and gathering crosses and has made a few saves. Very happy with him. In fairness it’s huge money so any mistake will magnified hugely. Loris made a lot last season but is still top quality. Even makes at least 3 a season
It’s 4 games in. Our defence has improved a lot. We have two big signings who are still finding their feet. Milner, vvd,Gomez, vvd and mane are playing really well. Salah hasn’t got going but has two goals
Delighted with our start to the season.4 wins, one goal conceded and 9 scored and we have yet to hit top gear bit are still creating plenty of chances in games.

3rd September 2018 at 4:58 pm #26083Agree with that Nine.
Correct me if I’m wrong, Mav, but I don’t think Poch has won a single trophy in his career. He’s got the best striker in world football, a world class midfielder in Eriksen, a very good defence and a World Cup winning goalkeeper. Jose won the CL with, IMO, worse squads TWICE with very little money spent compared to the biggest sides. Poch has his sides playing some good stuff but I sometimes wonder if that’s all he can do.
I wasn’t even comparing him to Mourinho really, though, in my previous post. I was just saying I can’t understand why he keeps being linked with the top jobs.

3rd September 2018 at 5:02 pm #26084I agree ed. Said it before. Spurs have one of the best starting 11 in the league. World class defenders etc. he needs to win something badly.
Cl football is great but like Liverpool, it won’t be enough this season

3rd September 2018 at 5:58 pm #26085Spurs under Pochettino match all their rivals in many of the qualities needed for success. They are extremely solid, well disciplined and effective. But they just seem to lack an edge to get one up on their rivals. They just lack that panache and swagger to really go and grab a game. Are they too disciplined or do they just need a bit more star quality?

3rd September 2018 at 7:32 pm #26086Ed-I agree in terms of having to win something for Poch, same goes for Klopp too! But you and Pax initially were talking about the money they had to deal with. With the money Jose has spent since winning the CL with Inter,he should have reached the final almost every season.Poch is understandably being linked with to jobs as one wonders what he could be achieving with the backing of say Jose,Pep,managers of PSG,Chelsea,Real,Barca, etc.

4th September 2018 at 8:55 am #26087Moyes over achieved with Everton every season and got them into the CL and an FA Cup Final but he couldn’t handle being at a big club with vast resources.
