17th August 2019 at 7:45 pm #45654The call was right Adlab but it is still really unlucky. What wasnt unlucky was being denied a blatant penalty, that shouldnt be possible with VAR and to have such a pedantic and unfortunate decision go against you so late in the game as well is really bad luck mate. City were awesome as usual though.

17th August 2019 at 7:49 pm #45655It’s as though bureaucrats, who have never kicked a ball in their lives, are now setting the rules. Are players in the box now supposed to wrap their arms behind their bodies, whilst also maintaining their balance?

17th August 2019 at 8:01 pm #45656It’s always been a grey area to be fair (ball touching hand or arm). It seems to me the law sets a precedent so that it takes away any unnecessary complications (e.g. somebody deliberately deflecting or guiding with a hand to benefit their Team).
Man City have every right to feel aggrieved, but it’s too early in the season to suggest this will impact them negatively as far as Retaining the PL Title goes.

17th August 2019 at 8:12 pm #45657Absolutely stupid rule. I’d be really pissed off if I was a city fan.
How can a rule like that be in place? It’s just ridiculous

17th August 2019 at 8:16 pm #45659Whichever team it effecfs in such circumstances is nonsense.
So if a defender tries to clear the ball, cocks it up, it bounces off an attackers arm with his back turned so its accidental(crucial word) into another attackers path who scores it will be disallowed. No leeway! Utter nonsense. The new law emphasises accidental._____________________________

17th August 2019 at 8:19 pm #45660Even if accidental, it will be a free kick (to the defending team) if the ball goes into the goal after it touches an attacking player’s hand/arm.” The new hand ball rule. Not VAR’s fault. #MA
Jamie Carragher
Because it’s the new rule on handball! VAR just enforcing it with a second look. A handball intentional or not that creates or scores a goal is now disallowed. Don’t blame VAR it’s just done what it’s supposed to do. #VAR

17th August 2019 at 8:27 pm #45662Adlab, think that’s pretty much what I’ve tried to convey re 20:01.
It’s likely this will be pulled up on Tonight’s MOTD with clarity.

17th August 2019 at 8:30 pm #45663Adlab @ 20:23, imagine if something like this was to happen in context of a significant World Cup game re England v Argentina on England thinking they’ve scored a Winner, and BOOOOM! VAR steps in.
A certain Diego Maradona was ahead of his time in escaping VAR completely haha 😀 🙂

17th August 2019 at 8:32 pm #45665I think the Ref made the correct decision with the goals as per the letter of the law. and to the best of my knowledge, every club had a representative those meetings where the rule changes were made. and may have given their blessings before the rules were changed. so if the law states that when a ball touches an arm/hand and results in a goal or an assist, that goal would be disallowed. the clubs give their consent without contesting those decisions. then we should accept the result.
City has themselves to blame for this draw, they have dominated this game throughout. and created a host of chances to win the game. they had the match under control for most parts. and conceded silly goals. but take nothing away from Spurs, they have defended very well and hit City on the break. they have worked for the point. and it will be a good point for them.
I have watched Southampton trouble Liverpool this afternoon. and I have to say the number of chances they had created was surprising given how dominant had Liverpool been in the last few months. I understand it’s early days, but mind you that they lost the title to City thanks to their large number of draws, and that costly draw at Everton was the highlight.
Arsenal seems to be grinding out of results at the minute. exactly the sort of things you would want early in the campaign when most of the players lack match sharpness. I can see them being right up there with the rest in the race for the top 4.
And finally, I hope we bounce back from our heavy defeat of last Sunday and beat Leicester. and if by any means we should the spirit we have shown against Liverpool. we would have a good chance. but I would never underestimate Leicester. they still possess some good players who can hurt us. looking forward to Lampard’s first match at home. I would be an emotional one given his close ties with the fan base, and his assistant also being a forme blue. the atmosphere would be buzzing one. and I would hope that won’t distract us from our mission which is to claim all 3 points.

17th August 2019 at 8:53 pm #45667Chelsea.man, liveroool didn’t lose the league mate. City won it. We really couldn’t do anymore. There’s always going to be draws. We dropped 17 points mate! That’s all. We were beaten by a better side who won 17 out of their last 18 games. We won our last 9 games. Not sure there was much more we could do.

17th August 2019 at 9:04 pm #45669Anonymous“Just looked at the actual rule. The call is correct as even if accidental.
Total nonsense if no intention.”I was worried about this rule and we’ve already seen a game completely ruined by this stupidity. I can only imagine how you feel Adlab. Were this my team and in the same circumstances, I’d be tearing my hair out.
Although the result is good for Liverpool, the fact that we’ve already seen how retarded this rule is, tells me that we’ve all got nonsense like this ahead and I’m not looking forward to it one bit.
Commiserations to the City lads on here, that’s no way to drop points. The rules are meant to be here to protect the integrity of the sport but this is clearly a big f***ing joke.

A top 6 PL match is far more significant in my opinion. This is the kind of thing that can decide the title, obviously not this early in the season… but you know what I mean.
i didn’t see the game but watched a clip of the handball. That argument between Aguero and Pep looks rather serious, is there any context to this? Think there could be serious fall-out, or just a frustrated flare up?

The Rule as it stands can be applied in most given contexts, like Champions League, and International tournaments.
