Why did we have to rely on Mendy against Brentford despite their good start to the league Chelsea should be dominating the whole game not one half only.

17th October 2021 at 7:45 am #186670Brentford are a very good side. That was a brilliant 3 points for Chelsea considering The players they were missing and itโs a very tough game in anyway
Brentford are a very brave team. They throw everyone forward
Itโs Chelseaโs defence that makes them one of the firm favourites for the league. They just donโt concede goals. One goal from open play in the pl this season . Unreal

17th October 2021 at 8:08 am #186673Foxy, on utd and ole. This is utds best squad in a very longtime. A different manager would propel that team to the very top. Heโs making repeated mistakes.
Pogba canโt play in a two man midfield somehow for utd. He just canโt. He gives away to many free kicks and itโs to open. No idea why he is so good for France. Fantastic player but it has happened at utd abd he needs to go
Ronaldo is going to score tons of goals but he doesnโt run. He doesnโt press. He will get you those goals so thatโs the conundrum
I thought maguire was excellent in the euros. I think heโs a great captain and organiser etc but you can get at him big time. Heโs been dreadful this season. Heโs a weak link for me and you just run at him . He canโt defend one on one out wide
People say contra football is a turn off but look at utd now? They have no style. Heโs a born winner and would bring instant success but utd will stick with ole
Itโs his team now and he will get the season

17th October 2021 at 8:22 am #186676Completely agree about Maguire Sean. I’m a big fan of him usually but he’s having his worst spell for us since joining now ever since the Euros. We’re a better side with him than without him but he’s been very poor since the summer.
Pointless getting Conte in for a couple of seasons. It would just be Mourinho all over again. He falls out with people, plays dull football, ignores the academy then leaves. That’s fine if you have a good footballing structure at board level and can just bring the next guy in like Chelsea do.
At Utd, you’re much more in control as there isn’t that structure in place to accommodate a revolving door of head coaches. It’s fine saying “well he’s better than what Utd have now”. Of course he is but that can’t be the benchmark. Ole, who was a ridiculous appointment for a club the size of Utd, can’t be the yardstick by which we measure potential new managers. It should be about whether someone is right for Utd, not whether or not he’s better than the current guy or we’ll be there again in 18 months looking for another new manager.
What should happen, but won’t, is that Utd should bring in Van Der Saar, who’s done a great job as CEO at Ajax and let him build a structure which means we’re less dependent on the manager. Build a long term vision for the club instead of going from one manager to another each with vastly different styles.

17th October 2021 at 8:26 am #186678Agree Sean about Salah. That’s why Liverpool, assuming they don’t get too many injuries, are one of the favourites again this year. Best player in the world playing for them, arguably the best defender in the world, arguably the best keeper in the world, arguably the best RB. They don’t have the depth, as we saw last season, but get lucky with injuries, and they’ll be right up there.

17th October 2021 at 8:30 am #186679Chelsea are not a great side to watch but that won’t matter one bit if it gets them trophies. Utd weren’t great under Mourinho but it was still great to see us lift some cups under him. Liverpool were pretty dull under Rafa. Again, they didn’t care as they won things. You put up with it if it gets results.

17th October 2021 at 8:40 am #186680Ye some valid points Ed mate. Conte is really a man of the moment. Buy sold players etc.
If you looking at it objectively, ole has done some good things. I really donโt know what the solution is for them but you make some good points there . Itโs an excellent squad.
Agree about Liverpoolโs side under Rafa. Loved it when we were winning big games and trophies but it got so dull. We had 8 defenders on the pitch at one time away to stoke.

17th October 2021 at 9:44 am #186681I do think Utd are one workhorse defensive midfielder away from having a complete squad though. That defense gets no favours from your midfield. A Kalvin Philips or Ndidi would completely revamp that side. Ole still needs to go though, he’s a lost cause.
The Pogba dilemma playing well for France but shit for club I think all comes down to one difference. Kante! For France, Pogba feels like he can shun his defensive duties because he knows Kante will do the work of two men. Utd simply do not have that type of mobile defensive mid. All this talk of bringing Rice in is completely off the mark, imo. He would not add to what you already have there. The team needs a workhorse!_____________________________

17th October 2021 at 10:29 am #186685AnonymousEd, Trent is the best RB in the world, for how we play. He’d be rubbish at some other clubs but ya, he’s incredibly effective for us. I was nearly going to correct you regards us needing to be lucky with injuries, saying we just needed to avoid being unlucky but we have quite a few injury prone players and if you don’t address that, you’re setting yourself up for problems. So ya, agreed there now really.
As for the dull to success ratio, ya to a point. I haven’t watched much of Chelsea this season but they haven’t bored me to death when I did.

17th October 2021 at 10:39 am #186686From what I’ve seen and read across the net, I think there’s a little bit of hastiness.
It seems to me whenever United don’t win a game, the knives immediately point towards Ole. I don’t know yet again if changing the manager is the answer – how many now since 2013? The money too spent bringing players in.
He’s not going to want to lose next Sunday and we could be facing a tough proposition, whilst Chelsea entertain Norwich at home and could be 4 points clear of us.
Still in fairness only 8/9 games in and things can change quite quickly within weeks.

17th October 2021 at 10:41 am #186687Salah looks lean, fit and at his peak. Better than ever, but he will need to rest too and won’t be able to play every match for the risk of injury or being burnt out. Good to see Firmino step up yesterday. Different Watford in fairness to the one that beat us 2-0 back in 2020.

17th October 2021 at 11:11 am #186688“Whenever Utd lose a game…” that’s just not true Nil. Most fans, never mind just Utd fans, accept that Ole was always a strange appointment and whilst he initially did ok, just as with Lampard the pressure intensifies once you get your own players in after spending a lot of money. He’s done ok so far but it’s abundantly clear he’s now out of his depth. Doing ok isn’t enough at this level.

17th October 2021 at 11:29 am #186689Ed, I know you’ve been consistent in your appraisal and appreciate he’s never been your first choice.
I agree on the point of trying to manage and drive success now that he has players and also been allowed time and backing by the club.
I was alluding to callers on the radio and some comments written elsewhere. Even the BBC Website have put up a headline. I’m thinking it’s still only really 8 games in. 2 Defeats isn’t the worse that can happen and that can be clawed back.
Things can change. It also make me think about those summer signings, the excitement and joy that came from it, plus United’s first game. Surely some United fans must have thought they can genuinely challenge Man City.

17th October 2021 at 11:31 am #186690Maybe it’s the tactical nous that’s lacking at the moment with Ole trying to accommodate these players into a playing system that will work. I wasn’t for example sure about the 4-2-3-1 (I think that was implemented) yesterday.

Me neither Mak.๐
Chelsea were missing a few yesterday and Pulasic has only played one game this season Chelsea will be stronger offensively once they get Pulasic and one of two others back and playing regularly.

17th October 2021 at 12:14 pm #186693Thatโs the thing foxy, Kante is like having 2 players. Utd have an exceptional squad now but as Neville says no really runs their balls off for the team
