20th October 2021 at 3:10 pm #186884Lucky…I did not understand your line about City lawyers, can you explain please.
Nine…I have said before…it will all end in tears…..the more you try and regulate the more messy it will become. Sponsorship deals have been going on for years, I doubt City or Newcastle will go under without them and I would love to see no sponsorship, from a personal point. Nice Ad free shirts, some of them are collecting like Boy Scout badges now!!! Whoever “the suits” put in charge to manage such a regulation will costs as well. There are also real examples of it being done outside sport as well by commercial business, even Govt Departments but once again football is highlighted. Nobody will win this merry go round. The real problem is football cannot generate the funds to support itself through the gate or merchandise for the amounts it needs to keep afloat. I’m talking about all football not an isolated one/two.

20th October 2021 at 3:31 pm #186887Brian, love you buddie but imo you’re trying to defend the indefensible here.
Sponsorship from related parties is wrong from the country owned Clubs it’s just another way of delivering illicit money into their Club’s. That’s my opinion my friend and we’ll have to agree to disagree on this one.
It’s an easy rule to put in place and administer Saudi companies wouldn’t be permitted to sponsor Newcastle ie Saudi Airlines wouldn’t be permitted to sponsor Newcastle but British Airways for instance would as one is a related company and the other isn’t it’s that simple and wouldn’t need any special policing.
Best left there my friend now and let’s see what finally transpires from all this.

20th October 2021 at 3:34 pm #186888Brian bud city say they were advised by lawyers to vote against it and you are the only person I have heard argue against it so it was just a joke that you must have got the memo…

20th October 2021 at 4:26 pm #186891I’m afraid I don’t get it so in other words sponsorship is now forbidden to any club. That’s going to be a big problem if arbitration allows it, don’t think they will though.

20th October 2021 at 4:53 pm #186892It’s not difficult Moos.
There are moves from 18 of the PL Clubs to outlaw related sponsorships ie Companies in Saudi Arabia wouldn’t be allowed if the rules get formalised to sponsor Newcastle whilst Companies in other countries outside Saudi Arabia would be allowed to sponsor Newcastle.
Such a rule if it s formalised won’t be retrospective so Clubs with existing related sponsorships ie Man City won’t see those retrospective sponsorships affected.

20th October 2021 at 6:23 pm #186895To clarify moos, it’s about Saudi owned companies paying ridiculous sponsorship fees so Newcastle can avoid FFP. If FFP wasn’t a thing then the Saudi ownership would just poor limitless money direct in to the club. So affiliated companies will be barred from sponsoring Newcastle to avoid this.
It’s not the nationality it is the affiliation, for example if Roman owned an airline company that company would not be allowed to sponsor chelsea. It wouldn’t stop russian companies sponsoring chelsea because it wasn’t Russia owning chelsea. With Newcastle it is practically Saudi that own them.

20th October 2021 at 7:58 pm #186900Agree Nine…let us see what transpires. The only thing I cannot get my head around is that everybody agrees it is the Saudi Govt that has bought in and everybody agrees they have more more than they know what to do with, the question I ask….why would they want to bother with Sponsors? I am not trying to defend anything but put forward another view that perhaps none of us really knows what is going on and if you take on powerful people you had better have a better defence than they have now. Time will tell, as long as we are all friends I care less, I am more concerned with Brighton on Saturday

20th October 2021 at 8:48 pm #186904Brian, the Saudis have got the money but can’t spend what they want though because of the PL FFP rules whereas Saudi based companies sponsoring Newcastle would let them pour money into Newcastle at will and spend what they want.
Let’s wait and see what eventually happens. Cheers 9’s
