Well you could say he’s right, not good enough for a team at the top of the league😂😂😂😂😂😂

3rd October 2021 at 8:27 pm #186139I’m a massive fan of KDB but despite his goal he wasn’t at his level today and he hasn’t been since he came back into the City team imo but I’m sure he’ll get back there sooner rather than later.

3rd October 2021 at 10:56 pm #186142Those odds mean nothing any of the top 4 can still win the league. I doubt very much if people are really placing bets of that nature.

3rd October 2021 at 11:42 pm #186143Unfolding beautifully. What an amazing match that was at Anfield. We still got some wriggle room to come up to those standards set by Liverpool and City however we are right there in that battle to win the title. As I said, we have a good run of fixtures ahead the next 6 or 7 weeks before Leicester and then Manchester United so all we can do is keep on winning and see where that leaves us heading for Christmas. Open up some sort of a gap and then you never know. Everybody waited for Leicester to cave in 6 odd years ago. Why should this be any different and we are much shorter odds than Leicester? :))))

They are without a shadow of a doubt, in that handful of best in the PL. Jose has his strengths but he’s let some gems through his fingers for sure. In his defence, sometimes you don’t see what a player can do until they operate in a system that suits them.

4th October 2021 at 5:46 am #186152Check out Salah’s highlight real against Shrewsbury in the FA Cup. He was below average. He’s improved a tad unbeknown to Jose. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZmjStWi9VE

4th October 2021 at 6:24 am #186155Funny old game, this football malarky, despite playing like 3-legged donkeys and our manager about to “lose” his job, we’re still 3 points out of 2nd place, having already played 3 “Top 6” teams in our opening 7 games… still, glass half-full doesn’t sell fish-wrappings… 🙂

4th October 2021 at 7:07 am #186156The season is still very early so we have plenty teams separated by a few points, it’s not really an indicator just yet as many of the teams in the top half have to still play against each other. So to say we only a couple of points below the top lot may sound encouraging but at this stage its not a true indicator.

4th October 2021 at 8:01 am #186164Just to make a small point.
So far early days and we had Spurs away (with many missing) Chelsea away, Leicester away and Liverpool away. Out of 7 games. So it’s far too soon to say who will win_____________________________

4th October 2021 at 8:33 am #186165In response to your message about Leicester, Ed. Yeah, I’ve never really seen the hype around Rodgers being a top manager. I think he’s a very good one, but he’d be out of his depth at a massive club. I’d say he could do a decent job at Arsenal right now, but they are hardly a massive club anymore.
We’ve had a lot of issues with personel again this season. Fofana and Evans not starting this season has been huge for us. Now Ndidi is supposed to be out for a month. When I saw that lineup Rodgers put out and more importantly the formation I knew it was going to be a really bad day. His lack of changing something that clearly wasn’t working against Palace really pissed me off. Hamza was playing his first game of the season, had played no minutes so far this season in any comp and he goes and puts him as the lone defensive mid in a 442. Absolutely crazy! He didn’t change it until they had got a goal back and by then it was too late. The 2-0 lead was totally against the run of play, we had 2 chances and we took them both, otherwise it was the worst performance under Rodgers.
I am so relieved the international break is here as we need Evans back ASAP, we are an absolute shambles defensively, something we were so strong in last season.
I’m now starting to get worried

4th October 2021 at 10:10 am #186166Nine…you are right..KDB is not up to his usual high standard yet but is not far off. Fortunately , he is not one of those players that go hiding either and still works hard for the team. I am sure he will get back to the level we know he can produce soon. Great game yesterday, satisfied with performance

4th October 2021 at 3:57 pm #186177Foxy @8.33, that’s a really fair summary I think. It’s difficult to know how harshly to judge Rodgers and Leicester. I genuinely think they should be aiming to challenge the top 4 while realistically should at least be finishing top of that next mini-group of teams after the top 4.

5th October 2021 at 1:16 am #186182Anonymous“but he’d be out of his depth at a massive club.”
Rodgers came within a whisker of winning the PL with a not exactly world beating Liverpool side. Even Liverpool fans are quick to credit Suarez for dragging Rodgers so close but people are even quicker to forget that Suarez wasn’t considered to be clinical before Rodgers. It was himself that helped get the best our of Luis.
Of course it wasn’t just down to this but it’s an important detail. At the time we had Gerrard in his last good season, Sturridge in his best season for us and the emergence of Sterling. Fans look at the Chelsea game where Rodgers showed his naivety etc etc… wanting to change a winning formula at home and play a defensive game. Nothing but hindsight there IMO. That isnt to say that he wasn’t a little naive, in not closing out games (Palace) but if you ask me, Rodgers biggest problem was the absolute rubbish that he’d say to the press. i feel he’s put that behind him.
I think more would agree with you than me here but I think Rodgers is now ready for a “BIG” job (again). He’s got a decent enough Leicester side to work with but you wouldn’t call them world class. I genuinely think he’d get quite a bit out of this Utd team. Whether that is hilariously wrong or not is another story 😛

5th October 2021 at 10:34 am #186184For me, Rodgers weakness has always been the tactical side of his game with his basic philosophy I think being we’ll let the other team worry about us more than we’ll worry about them. And they don’t tend to draw many games indicating they tend to either live or die by the sword. If he had the players to do it though, then he could have a degree of success with it which is basically the point Mak makes above. And I think at Liverpool he was hampered by the then transfer committee.
Can’t help but think had it not been for his Liverpool connection, Man Utd would have considered Rodgers because he does give you a strong identity and he did still get awfully close at Liverpool.

5th October 2021 at 10:51 am #186186Those players were made to be phenomenal, looking back and that was Rodgers’ strength, so agree with Mak.
Spot on Mikus re his tactical nous. It’s alternatives. E.g. we didn’t need to go gung-ho against Chelsea and a draw would have suited us so he could have applied game management. 13/14 and seeing those players in Suarez, Coutinho, Sterling, Sturridge, and Gerrard just sheer joy.
