“Again, to clarify, I’m saying that if performances greatly improve AND he gets top 4, then he shouldn’t be dismissed simply because Ole failed. Without the above happens, he shouldn’t be considered at all, but based on that fact alone IMO.”
Ed, I’m not suggesting Rangnick should be dismissed just because Ole failed I’m saying based on his CV Rangnick wouldn’t even get an interview at United in the Summer just as Ole wouldn’t have got an interview at United previously for the United Manager job based on his CV. Neither were/ are qualified to manage United based on their CV’s.
United need to get their next managerial appointment right my opinion is CL qualification or not Rangnick wouldn’t be the right appointment that’s just my opinion Ed theres no right or wrong answer to it it’s just opinions.

16th February 2022 at 5:09 pm #194298I think Ed hit the nail on the head. The players are a huge issue. They are either lazy or just can’t understand what the manager wants. I’ve seen nothing to suggest they are team that can play or play in ragnick style. A team of individuals.
Sone good players playing bad. Utd just remind of Liverpool from years ago. Same problems.

I mean, the absolute best alternatives out there (if reports are to be believed) are 2 people. 1 is allergic to trophies and has somehow even managed to avoid trophies in a one team league. The other has done well in the Dutch league. That’s it. Rangnick’s CV isn’t that far behind the competition, if at all.

16th February 2022 at 5:49 pm #194301Ed, Rangnick has spent the majority of the last few years as a Sporting Director he was a Sporting Director when United appointed him as Interim Manager.
I just don’t think he’s the right Manager for United long term a top 4 finish or not and I don’t think he would even be interviewed at United for the Manager’s job based on his CV.
I’m not claiming I’m right indeed I might well be wrong it’s just my opinion Ed.

16th February 2022 at 5:58 pm #194302None of us know Nine. Obviously my points are only opinions too. Let’s see what happens. I get the point you’re making but I just don’t think the bar is high enough in terms of competition for the role that we’re in a position to ignore him as a candidate regardless of how well he does from here on.

16th February 2022 at 11:22 pm #194335See, here is the thing. I actually think Ole gets waaay too much praise. In my eyes, he is the accidental hero. He was great for boosting the morale of a team that was low after Jose, but that is just about all he was able to do. Quite frankly, someone like Tim Sherwood could have achieved the same thing as Ole. This whole, “he doesn’t get enough credit for getting us to second” is a furphy! He did it in weird times. COVID, injuries and other clubs transitioning were bigger factors in Ole getting Man U to second. The COVID disruptions were admittedly the same for everyone, however the stop start really did help them when they were transitioning from Jose to Ole. Injuries to other teams, Liverpool, us, Chelsea and their managerial change were all massive factors in how that league table played out.
I’ll use as an example our league win in 2016. is Ranieri a legend in my eyes, yes! Is he an amazing manager, no. I am by no means under any allusions that he was the beneficary of some very favourable circumstances. Don’t get me wrong, he still managed those circumstances better than anyone (clearly). However, in any other season, we would not have won the league, we might not have even finished in the CL spots. Chelsea were in transition, Liverpool were in transition, City were still learning the Pep way and were a shambles. Our main opposition all season were Spurs and a has-been Arsenal outfit. In the grand scheme of things, Ole achieved absolutely nothing and just delayed the desperate rebuild the club needed by 3 years.
