But would you rather Conte was never at your club Nine. Would you happily hand back those trophies in exchange for him never being there?

8th March 2022 at 6:01 pm #194811Mikus, most Managers have delivered trophies at Chelsea we might well have won the same trophies or even more under another Coach.
You can’t change history though, what happened under Conte happened but I wasn’t sorry to see him go.
Conte has never gone past two years at any Club and there is always problems and falling outs which is seemingly why United didn’t want him.

8th March 2022 at 6:06 pm #194812Chelsea chose Conte because he was a proven winner. We saw what happened when you tried to be different and looked more at the style of play and appointed Sarri. In a climate where there are very few top coaches, I’m not sure clubs can be so picky about it.

8th March 2022 at 6:54 pm #194814Mikus, I didn’t have any problems with the way we played under Conte and tbh he talked himself out of the job at Chelsea.
Sarri won the Europa League personally I think he deserved a bit more time and another season but seemingly he wanted to go back to Italy.
I guess it depends what you’re looking for from a Manager United are seemingly looking for a longer term strategy and Conte doesn’t fit that bill he’s a great Coach though and a proven winner everywhere he’s been but so far he’s never managed to go past two seasons anywhere.

8th March 2022 at 6:55 pm #194815Ah come on nine mate,Chelsea fans loved conte in his first season and I remember you being a big fan of his.
He did a great job after Chelsea finished tenth the previous season. His 2nd season he got involved in silly stuff . The fact he was there and won the league. Not sure many Chelsea fans would really want to forget his tenure.
Ed thinks he doing a crap job at spurs but letโs wait and see when or if he gets his own squad together. Absolute proven winner. Like Jose, his relationship with levy could be the downfall but if he is supported, I can see him doing well. Time will tell chums.

8th March 2022 at 7:02 pm #194816I donโt think utd have any strategy nine to be honest mate. They brought in ragnick when a blind man can see they donโt have the players to implement his way of playing.
The club is a right mess and thereโs no clear plan for me . Whoever comes in needs a full rebuild and we says that when moyes came in, Jose came in, lvg came in and ole came in.
Poch isn’t the answer for me. Iโve no idea about ten hagg. Ajax are a big club. They produce great players and he has built a few teams there but thatโs all I know about him

8th March 2022 at 7:17 pm #194818Man Utd’s only plan has basically been to throw money at it and hope things work out. Conte would dream of that ๐.

8th March 2022 at 8:07 pm #194821Sean, I’ve consistently said Conte lost me in his second season he’s a great Coach but the second season was painful and it got worse as the season went on in the end I couldn’t watch his press conferences.

No worries Sean. Good points all around. Fair point by Mikus about the conundrum of wanting big name signings while also wanting a long term vision.

9th March 2022 at 6:22 pm #194835United is one of the most difficult jobs in football as the expectations are so high. In fact unrealistically high. They have appointed a series of top names but with little success.
What is the answer?
Hard to say but they need somebody who can make the current squad work._____________________________

9th March 2022 at 9:07 pm #194839Not saying it would have turned out, but IMO opinion they persisted with the wrong manager. They gave Ole waaaay too long to prove he was useless. Jose and LVG on the otherhand didn’t get that luxury. Those are managers who have prestigious backgrounds with records to match. Yes, they may have played dour football and not had the changeroom on their side but my answer to that is well SAF was shit for his first 4 seasons, when he had players who were working against him, he turfed them out. It is clearly not the managers who have been the problem at Man U, it can’t be the players. We were all saying on here at the start of the season that they had finally assembled a squad to challenge City. That leaves the backroom and the people who make the decisions, there must be something toxic not working right there.

See I don’t agree with this at all. I keep hearing “but nobody has done a good job at Utd since Ferguson so it CAN’T be the manager’s fault”. It’s correct that the manager, whoever that may be, doesn’t have the best conditions in which to work. Expectations, pressure, lack of clear structure above him etc. But, I genuinely think every single manager since Ferguson was the wrong choice.
Moyes
Though doing ok now, it took him a long time to do so. He’s been very poor since leaving Utd aside from his current job. If we made a mistake letting him go, why is he never linked to top jobs since leaving us?Van Gaal
Sacked by Bayern for a disastrous season in his last club job before us and then didn’t get another job for 5 years.Mourinho
Deemed not good enough for Spurs and the fact he went to Roma after that tells us all we need to know about his current level of ability as a top manager. I think Mourinho is actually the only one that wasn’t necessarily a bad appointment but it’s been proven since that he had lost some of that magic touch he one had.Ole
Should never have got the job. No chance of getting another top jobThe fact that none of these has gone on to manage another top club successfully is enough to tell me they simply weren’t good enough. How many here would be happy if the above was the list to replace your club’s manager in the summer? Anyone?

10th March 2022 at 12:29 pm #194873What’s Ragnicks role beyond this season? An “adviser” right? What influence does he have regarding the next manager?
I ask as I mentioned before Utd need a long term strategy in place where they change managers but keep the same theme going forward regarding staff and player recruitment. Is Ralf the start of that? Does this mean Utd will go down the largely German Gegenpress high energy route? Its a proven successful style with the right players. Problem is there’s only one elite level manager that plays that way and there’s no way he’d join a main rival, so who else? Hassenhรผttl? Marco Rose from Dortmund?
This sounds ridiculous but if Utd end up going for the Contes, Zidanes and Ancelottis of this world then it makes the appointment of Ragnick even more absurd.
