I’m pretty sure as far as a PL campaign goes (excluding the First Division model), this is Spurs’ best ever start. A team where I feel a couple of regular starters if injury was inflicted would make them in the realms of threadbare.
From that POV, Ange deserves credit. He’s been a level-headed Gentleman too; not getting too carried away. And the outcome of matches I don’t see as a fluke because of the way they’ve applied themselves and it’s their strive for 90 mins. It’s paid off so far.

30th October 2023 at 7:34 pm #210441Nil, you are so right, an injury to Sonny, Bissouma , Vicario or Romero would expose us badly, we don’t have quality in depth and would be using players who we have been trying to sell

30th October 2023 at 8:15 pm #210442Manchester City striker Haaland is currently on 47 goals in 45 Premier League appearances.
Haaland needs just three more goals to reach 50 in the English top-flight and he’s still 20 games off Andrew Cole’s record quickest tally of appearances (65) when he reached 50 goals in the Premier League._____________________________

30th October 2023 at 8:24 pm #210444Shines, from a neutral’s point of view for once I just want Levy to ‘back a horse’.
The moment results are not positive, I don’t want Ange to feel he’s under threat and there’s a negative vibe. If anything at the moment, there’s a real good spirit about. Just one or two good steady buys/loans in the January window could really make this season worthwhile.
Cheers

30th October 2023 at 8:39 pm #210445That’s exactly it nil. To sustain the situation at Spurs they need more signings to strengthen it. Otherwise all the pressure goes on to the manager to keep trying to squeeze everything he can out of the group, which will only drain out the players and manager eventually. Even just one good signing can lift the place.
Without wanting to keep going back to Ten Hag, if some of their signings had worked out better at Utd, that would have taken a lot of pressure of him. Indeed you look at how important even just Mané was when he came to Liverpool early in Klopp’s tenure at Liverpool. He took us up a level and it took the pressure off Klopp as it helped sustain the performances on the pitch. Then Salah came and it just got better and better.

30th October 2023 at 8:56 pm #210446Liverpool before the Tottenham defeat (whereby this fact has been sort of floating in the background) went on an impressive unbeaten run of matches.
Absolutely we went through a difficult journey. We experienced injuries. The game being played that does need to be accentuated as critical, in all honesty Jordan Henderson, and Fabinho (Credit and Respect to both) struggled week in week out plus Champions League.
I’m not sure in my humble thoughts how Ten Hag has been compared to Jurgen Klopp, but I’m sure this has been the first time in 6 seasons Liverpool have found themselves in the Europa League.
Next to Kenny Dalglish’s Reign, Jurgen Klopp holds a Helm for the Success he brought Liverpool in a relatively short period which I feel in itself is understated.
You go through off course difficult phases with it being one could say part of your journey.
There was not a need for fans to call for Jurgen Klopp to go (don’t get that).
Our Difficult Times:
-2020-2021
-2022-2023100 points could easily have been Eclipsed and beyond if there was no Covid 19.
97 Points 2019
92 Points 2022And Man City still had Liverpool by 1 point. This is History 😀 Something I’m Proud of; though in weirdness, Manchester United still rule at 20.
They are more and more reminding me of Liver 😉

30th October 2023 at 9:06 pm #210447Mikus, wholeheartedly agree, 100%
I have a slight tread of caution when signing players:
1 – how many players you are bringing into the club
2 – at that period of timeI have the Chelsea model in my mind where there’s ‘one too many’.
Brendan Rodgers made that mistake I feel going into 2014-15, re the examples of Adam Lallana, Roberto Firmino, and Divock Origi.
It’s a job, for a Manager if for example he himself hasn’t really been at the Helm for a long period of time.
Too much too soon in trying to gel is Risky Business

30th October 2023 at 10:46 pm #210452Wow, I’m quite surprised at the negativity about Spurs and Ange.
Firstly, people are right, a few injuries to some key players and the Spurs side gets exposed quickly. However, Ange has almost had to rebuild the team. What he has inherited is not too disimilar to what Moyes got at Utd. Granted, Utd won the league before, but the squad was both ageing and had pretty much no investments for a few years to that point. They also pretty much won the league thanks to one player, Van Persie. Spurs have been punching above their weight for a few seasons now, really off the back of one player too, Kane, with the odd cameo from Son. The Spurs team we are seeing fielded at the moment is largely unrecognisable form the last few years. So Ange has rebuilt the team in a matter of months, got them playing lovely football, they seem to have great cameraderie, hell even Richarlison seems to be playing well, oh and they’re top of the league.
As for the depth of squad, imagine if they are within 5 points of the first place come the Jan transfer window. Where are some good signings likely to want to move to if given the choice between Man U or Spurs?
A team on the down that seems to be constantly in shambles or a team on the up that is playing with great confidence and squad happiness? That squad depth may no longer be an issue by then.….but yeah, Ange is overhyped hahahaha.

31st October 2023 at 6:05 am #210454That’s all very good Foxy. I don’t think anyone is saying otherwise. I just think we, in football, tend to go overboard on hyping things up prematurely. I fail to be swayed by 10 or so games into believing anyone has turned a corner. There have been so many promising manager spells which start great, the fans hype them up like crazy then the inevitable collapse happens. I think all some of us are saying is let’s see where they are this time next season.
A mere 6 months ago, the roles were reversed for Utd and Spurs. Utd were heading into their second cup final and Spurs were being torn apart by Conte and a team who their best player couldn’t wait to leave.
Spurs is a much easier place for a manager to go also. Hence why it suited Poch so much (who has struggled since with the weight of expectations at bigger clubs). At Spurs, you can get away with playing some nice football and challenging for a top 4 place. Overachieving is not a huge stretch. At Utd, if you’re not challenging for a title, you’re not good enough. All while under probably the most scrutiny of any club possibly anywhere.

31st October 2023 at 7:09 am #210455In fact, there was very similar hype around Conte when he came to Spurs. They’d turned a corner and were being tipped to win the title under him. So, yes, I have a tendency to want to wait a bit before believing any corners have been turned 😄.
Things such as this 🙄:
Are Spurs’ Hopes of Winning the Premier League Title That Outlandish?

31st October 2023 at 9:11 am #210457Foxy, no negativity at all mate. Just it’s only ten games in. I love ange as I watch Celtic a lot. I’m surprised how good spurs look at the back. The speed of van de ven. The keeper looks good but the big test be when they lose a few games. If he loses 3 in a row, the ties suddenly turn. I just think everyone in football goes overboard when things are going well and when you lose a few games . Real positive stuff at spurs now but let’s just in a few months we’re they are.
I totally agree with cm on the extra focus on utd. The defeat to city is Absolutely everywhere. They are getting slaughtered but let’s see we’re they are in a few months when players are back etc. utd simply cannot reset agsin.

31st October 2023 at 9:14 am #210458Certainly not going to go overboard about Liverpool. We can still improve in so many areas. We still need a strong central defensive midfielder
City haven’t really got going but I fully expect them to pull away very soon. Haaland is just another level and they will get much stronger like they always do. It’s still very very early days for everyone

31st October 2023 at 9:27 am #210460Just saw Antony’s petulance. Clear sending off then acting the hard man. Hugely dislikeable bloke when playing football.

31st October 2023 at 1:42 pm #210461He (Antony) really is Sean. Could put up with it if he produced on the pitch as well but he’s been terrible.
That’s it Sean, about Liverpool. Look how many were writing Liverpool off last season and saying it was the end for Klopp etc then one midfield overhaul and they’re “back”. The answer no doubt lies somewhere in between. They weren’t as bad as was being made out last season and they’ve improved this season but far too early to say they’re back yet. Nobody is catching City, let’s face it.

31st October 2023 at 4:46 pm #210463The acid test or real combat of test for Liverpool will be Ethiad away after International Duty. I didn’t like us having to play in succession Spurs and Brighton away from home and we only managed to gain 1 point out of 6.
So yes there will be points dropped, but in the same breath, I’m grateful for what we have achieved so far which is getting a lot of wins early doors. Can’t get carried away, but we can smile 🙂

31st October 2023 at 5:25 pm #210464Nil,we are doing well but I’m just expecting a challenge for top 4. We just have to keep going. I’m enjoying watching us play. City will run away with the league. They just go on mad runs.

31st October 2023 at 5:41 pm #210465Sean, I’d be inclined to agree mate. As high as we can in the league. Top 4 would be Great and the one we haven’t won under Jurgen; Europa.
I want us also to have good runs in the Domestic Cups. I hope we bring in a new face in January to strengthen us.
City surprisingly have lost 2 matches already. Another 2 defeats and I think Title could go elsewhere; most likely to the Emirates.

31st October 2023 at 8:20 pm #210468Looking forward to our major signing in January.
KDB.I read that the penalty we got on Sunday was the first we had at Old Trafford for 31 years!!?
Ten Hag, IMO too many signings that he knew from the Dutch League and too expensive . eg Mount, Anthony. I think the club and the Stadium needs a revamp.
We are very lucky with good management._____________________________
