Well it beats the Poch “cycle”!
Year 1: No trophy. Nice football
Year 2: No trophy. Nice football
Year 3: No trophy. Nice football
Year 4: No trophy. Nice football

22nd November 2020 at 9:15 am #170607Like him or not, the man has Pedigree and has history of winning more PL Titles than any other Manager currently on the circuit. I’m not sure what the expectations are though for Spurs, but they need to be picking up Silverware.

22nd November 2020 at 9:27 am #170609If Jose wins something big at spurs it will be his biggest achievement
He’s become less annoying these days aswell 😂

22nd November 2020 at 9:38 am #170610The players of course need to stay fit and plus having Bale on the Bench. People mention the point of anti-football, but those players really look hungry, they want to play, but they’re also playing with ease and not really imposing any pressure on themselves.
As with Jose. I’m not sure of the ‘targets’ set, but it’s certainly improved in terms of form and results. This is the springboard and maybe the challenge is to find consistency.

22nd November 2020 at 9:38 am #170611AnonymousSean, We’re starting to look a decent team, but again, at times, I thought we looked a little panicy and brittle against the toon yesterday. Especially when Werner decided to be so generous… He’s going to be frightening when he hits his top tier A game. Shades of Henry running at the defence yesterday.
I guess we’ll have a good look at CFC’s and spurs credentials next week when we have the London Derby… crackerjack…
All I can say about tactics is they come and go, Cit are a poor shadow of themselves at the mo.

22nd November 2020 at 9:40 am #170612I’m afraid I have to agree with some of the sentiments on here and other forums, for united and spurs to win in that manner is not good for the game,if Chelsea perform like that it goes for them as well, in any event I think United will improve while I expect Spurs to fall away to an extent.

22nd November 2020 at 9:54 am #170613I thought spurs were excellent after the 2nd goal. They kept the ball well
It was exactly the way Jose wanted the game to abd it worked perfectly
Early goal was the killer for city played right into joses hands

22nd November 2020 at 10:12 am #170614I think there has been a narrative constructed by fans and media regards Jose which while sometimes fair and true, ultimately doesn’t give him his due credit.
He is one of the greatest coaches of all time and I wouldn’t waste my time arguing that with anyone, would be like having to argue that Christiano Ronaldo is one of the greatest players of all time, its just a fact and people can pretend otherwise if they wish.
Truth is he needs hungry and altruistic players to reach the great standards he set with porto, Chelsea and inter. Give him a bunch of selfish overpaid and overhyped players with ego’s as big as him and it will only go one way.
As a chelsea fan I will have mixed feelings if he succeeds with spurs, but a part of me wants him to succeed because I can’t help but still have a soft spot for him.
The third season in second spell at Chelsea was an exception and not part if a 3 season pattern that is inevitable. The players let him down and his biggest fault was trusting them too much cesc and others have said that too. The way Jose behaved in response was totally unprofessional however and I resent it deeply.

22nd November 2020 at 10:15 am #170615Blaze I understand the criticism of utds performance but I think spurs beating City is fantastic for the game and was a great team performance, they beat a top team quite comfortably mate, I thought City were great first half

22nd November 2020 at 10:26 am #170616I can’t see Spurs sustaining a title challenge, a couple of injuries, say Kane & Højbjerg and results would fall away.Jose isn’t a Spurs type manager, he wins too much, and a lot of our fans didn’t want him , myself included , but I have to admit he’s done a job on the team .I’m seeing a happier, more relaxed Jose and I’m slowly coming round to his way of playing, & winning………… pretty it ain’t .

22nd November 2020 at 10:32 am #170617He’s mellowed, less angry and more smiley; was still a little short with Pep on the Handshake, and could have made more of an effort to greet him nicely, but that’s Jose for you.

22nd November 2020 at 10:35 am #170618It’s the Refereeing, Rules and Technology the way the whole system is being managed that’s ruining the game Blaze at the moment. That’s probably a scary part as you don’t know what to expect.

22nd November 2020 at 10:42 am #170619The thing to understand with Jose is that he is an expert at knowing the capabilities of his squad in relation to the opposition. So when he plays defensively in the big away games, that’s him conceding his side aren’t strong enough to go toe to toe with the other side and he will look to win the game his way.
When Jose has had very strong squads (Real Madrid & Chelsea) his sides have broken points and goals records galore. Whereas the likes of Bielsa, Poch, Wenger are from the other school of thought that says “This is our style. We change it for nobody”. Whilst that’s often more entertaining, it’s usually less successful. Both work well when you have the strongest side but Jose’s style continues to be effective when you don’t always have that.

22nd November 2020 at 11:24 am #170622Word of warning Jose is only less annoying when he’s winning and things are going for him if things turn against him in any way the annoying Jose will be back.😊
The true title contenders will emerge after January and then the trick s to stay there which Spurs have previously struggled with but they have a far more astute Manager now.
Are there really any new tactics? I’m not sure there are. If Spurs had opened up against City they would have probably lost Jose is one of the best there is at organising a team defensively and to counter attack.
Losing Kane to injury though for any length of time would be a challenge for Spurs. Alderweireld looks like he’s out for a while now with a groin injury he will be a miss.
More European games in the week are ridiculous imo the Chelsea squad returned from potentially 3 international games on Thursday some players weren’t released to train until Friday because of Covid tests they then had to travel to Newcastle play on Saturday morning get back to London on Saturday evening train today and Monday morning before leaving for Rennes for Tuesday’s game and we wonder why players are going down with soft tissue injuries.

22nd November 2020 at 12:26 pm #170626Lucky, Jose has a 3 season cycle for a reason, players only respond to his methods and psychology for a short time either due burnout or boredom. His methods are sometimes referred to as creating a siege mentality, but read any accounts of people being involved a siege and it’s not something they want to do again.
Jose is very good at taking a group of players and upping the collective performance over a short time, long time engagement and dynasties are not his thing, you pay your money and you take your choice……Pagan
