That’s probably true but Poch still managed to lose a one team League last season.
If it was a choice between Conte and Poch I would take Conte every time because he’s a proven winner whereas Poch is not.

26th October 2021 at 11:21 am #187369Fab Romano now suggesting the board want to give him another chance. Ferguson backs him. Whilst Ferguson is a legendary manager, surely he’s already shown he’s completely incapable of judging which manager Utd should have. He really shouldn’t be on the board. It’s helping nobody.

So would Levy it seems, Nine, sacking Poch and then trying to hire Conte.

26th October 2021 at 12:15 pm #187375And, Sweddy, according to the interweb, he finished 5th, 3rd, 2nd, 3rd and 4th, so I would argue against the bobbing around 4th/5th comment… π

26th October 2021 at 12:23 pm #187376But were 14th when he was sacked, so I probably should have widened the spectrum at both ends π

26th October 2021 at 12:57 pm #187379Poncho’s net spend (everybody’s favorite stat!) during his 5 seasons at the Spuds was less than 20 million a season…
Not sure when Ole was appointed but YooUtd’s net spend…
21/22: Β£76.5m
20/21: Β£58.32m
19/20: Β£138.24m
18/19: Β£46.94m
17/18: Β£137.61m_____________________________

26th October 2021 at 1:06 pm #187380Less than 20mil a season? Moyes had a net spend of less than 1mil a season so was much more of an overachiever than Poch. Didn’t help him when he got the big budget did it?

26th October 2021 at 1:15 pm #187381So we’re in agreement then, Ole is pants, Poncho is overated, Moyes is the Messiah and everybody loves to watch YooUtd lose because they suck and nobody likes them and they might as well go and eat worms. Agreed?

26th October 2021 at 1:17 pm #187382Everything that is wrong with my club. 3 people who are preventing the obvious course of action are:
– Ferguson. Legendary manager but should have no say whatsoever in the choice of manager. Especially after Moyes.
– Woodward. How is he still at the club? Never mind making decisions.
– Richard Arnold. What are his footballing credentials?Sir Alex Ferguson, Ed Woodward and Richard Arnold are supportive SolskjΓ¦r continuing as Manchester United manger, though the final decision rests with Joel Glazer. #MUFC [@JamieJackson___, @FabrizioRomano]

26th October 2021 at 1:18 pm #187383And don’t forget Moyes Net Spends starts in about 1976 when 1 million was worth about 200 million in todays transfer fees (so actually, he’s net spend is even more than Chelski’s!) and if you think about it logically, Moyes is more overated than a Sinclair C5.

26th October 2021 at 1:25 pm #187384My point wasn’t Poch is crap or anything. I think he’s a good manager. I just happen to think he’s one of those managers (like Moyes) who are good at overachieving and disrupting the bigger clubs by creating a side which is greater than the sum of their parts. Translating that to managing superstars with egos and huge transfer budgets is another job entirely. Moyes is evidence of that. I mean, if Poch really was going to continue to overachieve even with a bigger budget, we’d have seen it by now at PSG, where he’s hardly convincing. There are already rumours of unrest there and it’s no surprise after he failed to win the league with them.

26th October 2021 at 1:32 pm #187385Lair, lair, pants on fire… π
All jokes aside, PSG is an anomoly, a team full of ego’s and, at the end of the day, was signing Messi really Poncho’s idea or those questionable owners undergoing a “sportswashing” campaign who decided it was a great “addition” to the campaign? If I’m honest, I reckon a lot of managers would have an issue shoe-horning that squad together…
Anyway, I think with the work he did as Spuds, he absolutely desrved to the chance to build another team, as it was obvious that “squad” had peeked right after the mugging that was the 19 CL Final.
And I do genuinely hope he gets the chance to try again at the Lane. He earned that right, I reckon.

26th October 2021 at 1:54 pm #187388I don’t think Poch is even in the frame for the United job his CV summarise his problems and you shouldn’t be losing a PL title to Leicester City from where Spurs were that was Spurs best chance of winning the League title since 1961 with all of the big guns floundering.
Tottenham Hotspur
Football League Cup runner-up: 2014β15
Premier League runner-up: 2016β17
UEFA Champions League runner-up: 2018β19Paris Saint-Germain
Ligue 1: runner-up: 2020β21
Coupe de France: 2020β21
TrophΓ©e des Champions: 2020; runner-up: 2021Poch is a decent Manager but his CV demonstrates he’s not been a winning Manager I wouldn’t want him at United if I was a United fan but I don’t think he’s even on United’s agenda anyway.
Given the squad he inherited and has been added to I wouldn’t discount Poch leading PSG to a CL win this season though.

26th October 2021 at 1:58 pm #187389Mighty Mistra the pressures is just adding to Ole’s problems I’ve read comments from some United fans which suggest they would be happy taking a stuffing at Spurs if it brings the curtain down on Ole’s tenure at United.
