Ed I knew you weren’t arguing with my point just wanted to make sure it came across correct.
Two under pressure managers next weekend and to be honest I think it has a draw written all over it which will do neither any good. Then Utd host City. Everyone will be saying another spanking for utd but we’ve been here before when Utd have pulled off some good results against City when written off.

25th October 2021 at 12:35 pm #187294You can see why they say you should wait until about 10 games in to judge the teams. Man Utd seemed to be doing OK results wise, but enough reality has been seen now to see where they actually are. Ditto Everton, who after looking quite good initially, now look like nothing much has changed from last season. But West Ham’s performances can’t now be put down to just a bit of good form, they look a very good team. Also Arsenal aren’t quite as bad as initially feared, etc, etc. And we can now be pretty sure we have a 3 way battle for the title.

25th October 2021 at 1:16 pm #187296Both Manchester United and Newcastle are said to be pushing hard for Conte, and they both now have the budget to make it happen. Itβs described as almost certain that Conteβs next job will be in the Premier League.

25th October 2021 at 1:27 pm #187297It’s Ole, his Coaching staff and the players they’re all responsible for the current mess at United but the buck ultimately stops with Ole and it also goes higher than that too to Edwards and the Board for offering both Ole, Phelan and the other Coaching staff new 3 year contracts.

25th October 2021 at 1:33 pm #187298Be very suprised if Conte went to Newcastle it’s a a slow burn there it will take Newcastle years to get into the CL and Conte doesn’t do long stints at Clubs.

25th October 2021 at 2:12 pm #187299Yeah nine but at some point surely conte will have to decide whether he actually wants a job or not because his choice of clubs seems to be utd or real at the moment so what is he going to do if they don’t come calling?

25th October 2021 at 2:18 pm #187300It seems to be forgotten that, in most cases, playing football that delivers trophies can be boring to watch for large periods of a game. It relies on a lot of hard work and can be very possession based, though it can be intertwined with moments of excitement which can mislead you into thinking it’s always like that. This idea that you can always play glorious football and trophy winning football is pretty rare. Even in Liverpool’s recent title season, they weren’t actually that great to watch, with there being a lot of hard fought tight 1-0 and 2-1 games. But we have this culture now where fans apparently want to always play exciting football no matter the cost. And I think Ole & Utd have fallen foul of this, this season, especially having some more exciting players to pick. To win titles, you have to build from the back. But he’s not been strong enough to stick to the principles he had in previous seasons. He’s felt he’s had to pick these star players. This is why they’ve gone backwards. The first job for any new manager, even a Zidane, would be a boring job for the players – which would be to get them organised first and foremost and stop conceding so many goals. So in light of that, if both Conte and Zidane both won trophies if they were the Utd manager, would it really matter if one was a bit more exciting at times? Fans ultimately want trophies. As I have said, they have to ditch this ‘Utd way’ and pushing flair players and philosophies on the manager. It’s actually making them regress now.

25th October 2021 at 2:33 pm #187301And I’m sorry – but Sir Alex should stay away from Old Trafford now in big games. This constant attention he brings at these games, particularly yesterday, only serves to act as a ghost on the wall haunting his successors.

25th October 2021 at 2:46 pm #187302You can’t be banning a particular fan from games just because he is the greatest manager the club ever had though π I mean I hear what you are saying but can’t agree.
Totally agree with your post just before that though mikus π

25th October 2021 at 2:51 pm #187304Lucky, not saying they should ban him, more that Sir Alex should himself decide to keep away now generally. I just don’t think his presence there is helping anyone.

25th October 2021 at 2:52 pm #187305Lucky, Conte will want a big fish or a Club capable of being a big fish sooner rather than later the clue is in the status of the Club’s he has previously managed Juve, Chelsea and Inter and that’s not Newcastle currently and not for quite a while yet at least.
Conte is also very wealthy Chelsea alone paid him over Β£20m in compensation he can afford to sit on his hands and wait for the right job offer to come along he could have gone to Spurs but turned it down.
I would bet a pound to a penny he won’t go anywhere near Newcastle currently you can never say never but I suspect certainly not in the next few years.

25th October 2021 at 3:05 pm #187308Mikus, find it hard to agree with that too, should you have said that about ole though… π
It’s only because their current manager is crap. See daglish in stands for pool? He not doing any harm either.
Fergie is special though I know, he might need to take a break for sake of his own health the way it’s going bud.

25th October 2021 at 3:20 pm #187310Lucky, yes indeed the owners are the root cause and should never have kept him on this long. But in the context of this culture of hanging on to the Utd way of playing, or rather Fergie way of playing, it doesn’t help with him being there. That picture of a disgruntled Fergie yesterday was very powerful and influential and just helped maintain the feeling of “remember how we played under Fergie.”
Very much agree with this thread which echoes what I said above.
Statement of the obvious: Man Utd as a club want to recreate what they had under Ferguson.
One problem with this, and people will bristle, is Iβm not sure Fergusonβs United really had a style of play that can be βhanded downβ in the Ajax or Barcelona manner.

25th October 2021 at 3:20 pm #187311Can’t see United telling SAF to stay away from OT or SAF wanting to stay away from OT. I think United’s problems go a lot lot deeper than SAF sitting in the Stand.

25th October 2021 at 3:31 pm #187312Not sure it is true thst utd as a “club” want to recreate what they had under fergie. I think the club just want champs league footie year after year and fergue would never accept that.
The fans have varying expectations. I think a fair amount don’t care about formations or style they just want utd competing for trophies again.

25th October 2021 at 3:44 pm #187313Well I think this idea of it taking time under Fergie in his early days, and him also apparently close to getting sacked seems to maintain this thinking you have to give people time even if there are big bumps in the road. But I won’t go on about it now. Obviously if Fergie did stay away it won’t solve their problems. I just think his legacy hangs heavy over his successors and is still influential, with even Ole I think still recently talking about the “Utd way”.

That was over 30 years ago Mikus United are a different Club now with a very different ownership profile.
