The EFL agree 5 substitutes from Friday. Richard Masters suggests 5 substitutes is unlikely to happen in the PL any time soon.

18th November 2020 at 6:29 pm #1703629, the laws of the game for substitutes is below, it seems that only the top league and internationals are limited to 3, other leagues are permitted up to 5, so I presume that the PL would have to run it by FIFA for approval should the League vote for it……Pagan
Number of substitutions
The number of substitutes, up to a maximum of five, which may be used in any match played in an official competition will be determined by FIFA,the confederation or the national football association except for men’s and women’s competitions involving the 1st teams of clubs in the top division or senior ‘A’ international teams, where the maximum is three substitutes.Official competitions
The competition rules must state:
• how many substitutes may be named, from three to a maximum of twelve • whether one additional substitute may be used when a match goes into extra time (whether or not the team has already used the full number of permitted
substitutes)_____________________________

18th November 2020 at 8:18 pm #170368Pagan, “Teams will be able to make five substitutions in a match until the end of the 2020-21 season after Fifa chose to extend the use of the rule. World football’s governing body says it is now up to individual leagues and competitions to decide if they wish to continue allowing five substitutions.”

18th November 2020 at 8:30 pm #1703709, the laws of the game are the laws, championship (not the top domestic league) has been allowed to use 5 if they so wish since the law changed, they chose not to, but have now taken that option. The Prem and international are restricted to 3. If FIFA let the top leagues use 5 then that’s a temporary change to the laws…..Pagan

18th November 2020 at 9:03 pm #170371Pagan, FIFA have already relaxed the rules for 5 substitutes for this season the PL voted on whether to implement it or not but the PL Clubs voted against it. That’s where it stands re the PL.
UEFA have also agreed 5 substitutes for their competitions and internationals
Ceferin said: “After representations from clubs and national associations the executive committee approved the use of five substitutions in club and international matches for the rest of the season.”
“FIFA statement on five sub rule
Following the decision taken on 8 May 2020 to give competitions scheduled to be completed in 2020 the option of allowing teams to use up to five substitutes, The IFAB Board of Directors had agreed to review whether to extend this option further. On the basis of this in-depth review, which included stakeholder feedback and an analysis of the impact of COVID-19 on competition calendars, the IFAB Board of Directors has extended the option to competitions scheduled to be completed by 31 July 2021 and to international competitions scheduled in July/August 2021.The main reason for the temporary amendment to Law 3 – The Players was the impact on player welfare of competitions being played in a condensed period and in different weather conditions. The recent review has shown that the reasons for the temporary amendment remain valid and the impact on player welfare is likely to continue into 2021 due to various factors, including:
Some competitions which resumed in 2020 may have a shorter-than-usual recovery/preparation period before the start of their next season.
For many competitions, the 2020/21 season will involve matches being played in a condensed period due to a delayed start and the inability to end later than usual because of major international tournaments.”_____________________________

18th November 2020 at 9:21 pm #1703749, Law 3 has only been relaxed for the top league in any given country, the laws of the game already allowed lower leagues to use 5 subs if their competition rules say so. The reason IFAB/FIFA prescribe what the top leagues and international teams can do is to get consistency across the teams that are likely to meet each other. It’s always been an anomaly that the teams limited to fewer substitutions would probably be the ones that play most matches…..Pagan

18th November 2020 at 9:37 pm #170375About bloody time. With everything else going on in the world at the moment, being without league football for 2 weeks feels like a lifetime.

18th November 2020 at 9:40 pm #170376Yep the PL were already authorised to use 5 substitutes by FIFA but chose not too and five substitutions in club and international matches for the rest of the season was already authorised too.
That’s another one put to bed.😊

18th November 2020 at 9:47 pm #170378Too true Ed. From a Chelsea perspective I was pleased to see Chilwell on the bench for England, Mount came off early and Tammy was a late sub so all 3 should be ok for Saturday.🤞

18th November 2020 at 9:53 pm #170379I know what you mean Nine. From a Utd perspective, I’m slightly concerned that Pogba seemed to make it through unscathed and could be in the team at the weekend 😁.

18th November 2020 at 9:55 pm #1703809, my point was, the championship and below have been allowed to use up to 5 substitutes since the 2017/2018 season but have decided not to, the top leagues in each country have not been able to until IFAB/FIFA allowed a slight relaxation of law 3 for the end of last season and for this one…Pagan

19th November 2020 at 5:51 am #170384AnonymousEd, Ive moved Fernandes into my side at the expense of Rashford who was picked simply for being an outstanding human, I’ll shoehorn him back Inside when he gets one a roll…. Marvellous Marcus Always feels like cheating on a lover having united players in my team.. Had a stinker of an open 8 games.

19th November 2020 at 7:35 am #170386Rashford is a funny one. He’s outstanding in bursts then can be dreadful for a few games. If he gets consistency in his game, he can be a top player for years to come. I still don’t think he’s quite been right since his injury last year.
Liverpool currently top the injury list, closely followed by Utd. It’s going to be a injury ravaged season for everyone by the looks of it.

20th November 2020 at 7:45 am #170413Spurs v city game is going to be interesting. No doubt jose had done a decent job in his 1st full year there.
Far to early to be calling them title contenders as they have had a nice few fixtures at the start of the season but now they have city, Chelsea and Liverpool in the next few weeks
Going to be very interesting to see what the table is after the fixtures on jan 2nd
