Pagan, “FIFA has taken full operational control of Video Assistant Referees [VARs], world football’s governing body has informed all associations.

Mattias Grafstrom, FIFA’s deputy general secretary for football, told all 211 associations in a letter on June 29.”

That doesn’t sound too optional to me Pagan!😊

I really can’t see the PL being able to declare UDI re VAR or IFAB agreeing to let them do so particularly as the home countries make up 50% of the IFAB Group that oversees the rules.

Rules have to be universal IFAB set the rules of football and individual Leagues can’t pick and choose the rules they like and discard the rules they don’t like.

But if you think they can that’s fine and we’ll just have to agree to disagree in the meantime we’re stuck with VAR and personally I can’t see that changing any time soon!

I sensed we’d be struck with the VAR lightening. Lucky for us the Pen wasn’t converted. It’s given us a lift and we really should have made most of that other chance.

The problem is that the assessment is on slow-mo which gives off the wrong perception. It’s not real time when crosses are venomously struck.

Ya, i mean the only reason the match isnt ruined by the new rules is KDB missed. I just find this shit to be unacceptable. I feel like “ruined” gets thrown around a lot but these rules really are ruining matches.

This is a cracker of a match and it’s like they are trying to intervene and say “oh hey, this game is now terrible, thanks”.

The PL needs to break away from FIFA. You can’t trust these clowns to take the game forward.

As I’ve said before, it just needs some more bravery from the refs. And that would encourage more refs to stand up to this nonsense. Or else attacking players might as well just keep blasting the balls at defenders to get penalties.

As the commentary said Mikus, you could see from the refs face that he didnt want to give a penalty. They are rules though, not guidelines, the refs have to follow them. if of course you mean that they need to stand up and mention this to the powers above them, in their own meetings and such then absolutely.

Mak – but they still have leeway to interpret the rule – and they could rightly argue that Gomez’s arms were in a natural position/silhouette with the momentum he had.
