Offside does not consider the position of the arm/hands and that includes the goalkeeper.
I’ve not seen the incident but when the lines are drawn they are perpendicular to the touch lines, which is different to the picture we look at, so although a picture never lies it may not tell the whole truth.
Once again not having seen it, if it’s too close to call by the naked eye in real time then go with what assistant indicates, obviously if it’s a real howler then VAR should intervene….Pagan

7th November 2020 at 6:29 pm #169797Sean, footage on here mate. This is just standard to guiding the player as to where you want the ball played. Couldn’t see anything wrong with this.

7th November 2020 at 6:30 pm #169798Linesman/woman are perfectly more capable and reliable than the individual in front of the screen.

7th November 2020 at 6:35 pm #169799Nil, I’ve had a look at that, and I would say if you could digitally move the camera angle to level with play then his armpit is offside. That’s the trouble with VAR, The officials have to go to the letter of the law, even if there’s doubt about the accuracy of the system (it’s only a best guess when the ball actually starts to move forward) then they have to go with the evidence they get….Pagan

7th November 2020 at 6:38 pm #169800Nil, 18 months ago you were calling for VAR due to the amount of errors the officials were making, now you say they’re more reliable?…..Pagan

7th November 2020 at 6:42 pm #169801Pagan, in my view, the stance overall should be judged by the positioning of the players feet. If he’s in line or behind, then he’s perfectly fine.
I admit openly, we did have it our way last season, and it was a novelty, Pagan.
This season however, it’s gone the other way and lots of teams have been bearing the brunt of wrong decisions.

7th November 2020 at 6:47 pm #169802It’s ruining the game in my view pagan. It really is
It’s tough enough without fans but not being able to celebrate a goal just ruins it
I wish it was never brought in

7th November 2020 at 6:50 pm #169803Nil, basically it’s any part of the body you can score with, and that’s always been the case.
As for wrong decisions, you just didn’t get them last season, it’s no different this season for the vast majority of teams. It was rubbish last season and it’s no better this…..Pagan

7th November 2020 at 6:55 pm #169804Sean, totally agree with you, myself and Chuckles were dead against it prior to it being brought in, and we were a minority of two.
It’s hard on the ref as they have to act within the laws of the game with the evidence given to them, no more common sense, no more taking into consideration the conditions, VAR doesn’t allow for wind or rain.
The cry last year was it was ruining the game for the match going fans, well thanks to COVID, we now know it’s just ruing the game as a whole…..Pagan

7th November 2020 at 8:01 pm #169807Pagan/Sean, Gents totally agree in the game being ruined absolutely true.
Prior to this, there were years of discussions/debates and cries effectively for Video Technology. When we finally have it, the problems have amplified.
We’re scratching heads in how it’s made things worse. It’s the persons operating and managing this and ultimately, the Rule-makers.

7th November 2020 at 8:02 pm #169808VAR is 99.9% right on offsides. People may not like it because sometimes the margins are so tight but that’s the way it is and complaining about it every week seems pretty pointless it won’t change this season and without IFAB change things in the Summer it won’t change next season either.

7th November 2020 at 8:08 pm #169811Nine, I’d disagree on that figure mate. Common sense is out of the window. There should be in my view leeway in favour of the Forward. To me too, it undermines the purpose of a ‘Linesman’.

7th November 2020 at 8:10 pm #1698129, it may be 99.9% correct judging the evidence it is given, however it’s only as accurate as the guess when the ball moves forward.
Nil, It’s wrong to blame the officials, they have to act on the evidence they’re given against the laws of the game, and as time goes on the laws will be rewritten to make them black and white so VAR becomes infallible.
We will end up with a game that is played 100% within its laws, but it won’t be the game that we grew up with…..Pagan

7th November 2020 at 8:13 pm #169813Haha, Nine 8:07: that was a great journey mate and experience living locally to see the Community really pull together. I felt really bad though for Ranieri for the way he was treated considering he was the man that ultimately guided Leicester.
A Gent is Claudio Ranieri Nine, and not many of them around.
Cheers
