9, you quote the numbers as if they are something to behold, they’re no better than the the general population, in fact if you took out the students they’re probably worse, 50 out of a couple of thousand is about the going rate for the UK…..Pagan

14th November 2020 at 5:02 pm #170221Nil, if you were to show symptoms you would get tested, whilst waiting for the results your household would need to isolate, if the test came back positive then your household would need to isolate for the full 14 days, they wouldn’t get tested unless they show symptoms.
It’s not necessarily the one catching it that causes the problems for businesses, it’s the ones that have to isolate and can’t work from home that do that.
Hopefully you won’t have to go down that road Nil and you stay safe and well….Pagan

14th November 2020 at 5:32 pm #170222Pagan, I’m quoting the numbers Pagan because they are the facts which currently confirm that it’s not worthwhile to go in the direction of the IPL who locked the players up for a few weeks.
Locking PL players and management etc away from their families for circa 9 months on the basis of less than 50 positive Coronavirus tests in the PL since the 31st August all of which have completely recovered and with every PL fixture completed on schedule confirms that.
If you think differently that’s up to you buddie you’re entitled to your opinion.
Different opinions makes this site what it is. Cheers 9’s

14th November 2020 at 5:41 pm #170223Pagan, yes you’re right re the symptoms and testing.
Thanks for the Kind Words Appreciated. I’ve been very fortunate working throughout the initial first Lockdown back in March.
Had a Flu-Jab a few weeks ago, so generally sound. Diwali Celebrations this year though, cancelled.

14th November 2020 at 5:43 pm #170224It makes you rethink the prospect of fans coming back into our stadiums.
Just to lighten the mood: one more Liverpool injury and I’m calling for null-and-void hahaha 😀 😛

14th November 2020 at 6:20 pm #170228Nil, Awhile back I was lucky enough to be in Mauritius with my Wife during Diwali and we both thoroughly enjoyed it.
Stay safe buddie and your family. Cheers 9’s

14th November 2020 at 6:55 pm #1702319, you’ve missed the whole point you seem to cut and paste figures without digging into them, the IPL had 0 cases but it was an awful lot sacrifice made by all concerned, the Prem is allegedly spending a fortune and has a lot of protocols, yet are no better than the general public, so why are they bothering. For me it’s one or the other, but if you think spending a fortune to achieve nothing is the way to go, crack on.
I just don’t see why they bother, their personal lives will be where they pick it up and if that’s not controlled then all the effort the clubs go to is wasted…..Pagan

14th November 2020 at 6:59 pm #170232Nil, I’ve not had a day off since March, think being stuck at home would have done my head in. As a family we’ve been fortunate, both me and the Mrs have continued to work, my lad was furloughed but is now back full time and my daughter is still at school. The only real downer about this latest lockdown is the youngest was invited to train with an England squad, but unfortunately that’s had to go on the back burner….Pagan

14th November 2020 at 8:11 pm #170236Pagan, yeah, I took a couple of weeks off in July; my first bit of time off since April 2019. Our Trade Stimulated ‘drastically’ since March and the workload let’s just say went mental.
Hope you are your Family are Keeping Good. And here’s hoping restrictions are lifted next month.

14th November 2020 at 8:32 pm #170238Pagan I’ve not missed the point at all however you have might have based on the below statement from the NHS..
89,874 people tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) at least once in England between 1 October and 7 October. Positive cases have been rising steeply over the past 6 weeks and in the latest week there has been an increase of 64% compared to the previous week. 6.3% of people tested had a positive result, this rate has been increasing since the end of August. The NHS
The percentage of players and staff in football testing positive barely register by comparison compared to the national 6.3% of those that tested positive.
The IPL self isolating strategy which was achieved over circa 8 weeks wouldn’t work in the PL over circa 9 months. I’m not disputing what the benefits or not are of the PL protocols although the number of positive cases in the PL are miniscule I’m disputing the fact that the PL could isolate for circa 9 months v the IPL circa 8 weeks.
Putting aside everything that has gone before do you honestly believe that it was/is practical to ask PL players and staff to remain in isolation for 9 months even putting aside that less than 50 PL players have tested positive since the 31st August.
Which was the first and only point I was making in my first post.
Back to the Masters!😊

14th November 2020 at 8:47 pm #170241Your stats are apples and oranges, you only get a test if you’re showing symptoms in the real world, footballers are getting tested as a matter of course.
50 positive tests out of 2000 is a far percentage when it’s matter of course as opposed to with symptoms.
Extrapolate the figures and it’s pretty close the UK figures. I’m not saying go down the IPL system, even though it works, I’m just saying what they’re doing is making little if any difference….Pagan

14th November 2020 at 9:27 pm #170242“Your stats are apples and oranges”, perhaps but you were the one comparing the PL stats to the General public.
Just for the sake of accuracy Pagan it wasn’t 50 out of 2,000 it was 48 out 14,250.
“I’m not saying go down the IPL system, even though it works,”
Seems like we’ve reached some common ground.😊
Bona nit. 9’s

15th November 2020 at 7:21 am #1702459, I would seriously check your figures “Just for the sake of accuracy Pagan it wasn’t 50 out of 2,000 it was 48 out 14,250.” Are you telling me there’s 14,250 players in the premier league? There may have been 14,250 tests conducted but the set size is only circa 2000……Pagan

15th November 2020 at 8:59 am #170247Pagan, you do make me chuckle.😊
Let’s go back to what started all this off which was my suggestion that it’s ” easier to keep IPL teams in a bubble for circa 6 weeks than it would be to keep PL teams in a bubble for nearly 9 months.”
Do you disagree with the above statement? Just a simple yes or no will suffice.

15th November 2020 at 9:02 am #170249Nil/pagan, I’ve been lucky aswell. I’ve been getting fully paid but last week was very tough working from home. I need to get back into a routine and into the office.
I found this weekend very tough with no football. I get bored very easily. I train a lot but have lost the motivation. This lockdown is much tougher as it’s colder and the days are shorter.
Hopefully it’s another 2.5 weeks but numbers are going backup again and it’s frustrating
Going to do a jog now as exercise really does help you mentally. These are tough times and it’s still so bizarre.
I would really miss the football tvis time around if it was cancelled

15th November 2020 at 9:26 am #1702519, No, it’s as easy to keep them both in a bubble, whether it’s approx 3 months for the IPL (not 6 weeks) or 9 months for the Pl, once they’re in the bubble it’s easy to maintain. Whether you could voluntarily incarcerate players for that time is another discussion.
The thing is that what they’re doing now is having little to no effect, so why bother…..Pagan

15th November 2020 at 9:43 am #170252Sean, I felt a bit like that yesterday mate. I was off too from work, but just basically chilled after going to the Supermarket. I need to get back into running etc.
I can’t find the motivation – bit too lazy!
Other Sports like Golf, Rugby, F1 don’t really interest me. From the first Lockdown, I came to terms and settled into a routine of no Sport. It must have been 3 months until Professional Football was allowed again. Liverpool only needed 2 wins. Some people out there were asking for the season to be null and void.
I’m grateful to have work to keep me occupied. People have been known to be working from home, home schooling their children etc, but it’s not the same and you need a routine and to be able to go out and interact in society.
Hopefully, we get through another week and then Football will be back on. It will probably be worth the wait too.
Cheers

15th November 2020 at 10:27 am #170253More injury news. First Gomez now Sterling injured training. Its no coincidence. Instead of playing pointless internationals in front of no fans, why not give the players a rest in these difficult times? Ans. Money.
