13th November 2020 at 7:15 pm #170186AnonymousCheers threeps, that is pretty bad TBH but I mean, his brothers wedding… A huge event in his life but ya, maybe put it off another year.
Anyway things keep getting worse for us. I guess we can still play the 433 though with a good front 3. Thank christ we got Jota!

13th November 2020 at 8:58 pm #170187We don’t know the full ins and outs on Salah. We had this with one of our Liverpool players which appeared to be True/false/past tense.
I don’t know the honest facts regarding his private life.
We’ll just have to deal with the matter.
You’d never guess it was Friday the 13th!

13th November 2020 at 9:05 pm #170188It seems that football doesn’t put as much effort into COVID prevention as other sports, they seem to just be testing rather than preventing, other sports have had teams in bubbles, whilst I appreciate that the football season is far longer that the 6 weeks of a tournament plus the 14 days before hand, there seems to be very little done to isolate those within the game from general exposure whilst away from the match day/training regime…..Pagan

13th November 2020 at 9:11 pm #170189Nine, you’re right. and yes. Bit of a unique scenario for us as we’ve not been Champions for 30 years and being bombarded with misfortune of injuries etc whilst trying to defend our Title.
I was conscious of this thread over-filled with the our domestics which could be discussed in our own Forum.
A lot has happened and a lot has been said, over time.

13th November 2020 at 9:50 pm #170191Pagan you are absolutely right.
I wonder how many test positive and not properly isolate or are asymptomatic and play on? I wonder. Reports suggest Salah is asymptomatic but who knows._____________________________

14th November 2020 at 8:27 am #170198Nil, it’s real bad luck mate to lose both first choice Centre Backs potentially for the rest of the season given the losses of the both of them and how it might effect the title race it was always going to be a matter of interest and discussion on the general forum.
However Liverpool still remain incredibly strong offensively which keeps the ball up the other end of the pitch and there’s every chance they might be able to muddle through this and solve the problem in January.
All is not lost imo.

14th November 2020 at 9:30 am #170199Nine, yeah seems to be one adversity after another. We just have to deal with the consequences and stick together. Just another week to get through.

14th November 2020 at 9:31 am #170200I’m starting to question travelling and socializing as far as Covid goes. There shouldn’t be any exceptions for Footballers just as we essentially wouldn’t see extended family and put their lives at risk.

14th November 2020 at 10:27 am #170202Adlab, I just don’t think football is really taking it seriously, if you take the recent cricket IPL, the players arrived in the UAE and had to test and self isolate for 14 days before they met up as teams, they then stayed in bubbles as teams, there was no interaction with the outside world, just other teams that stuck rigidly the the same protocols, guess what? During the whole tournament there were no cases among the teams.
Yes I suppose it was tough on players, but they stuck to it, that said some are now on their way to Australia for the BBL and will have to do the same there, so they obviously think the sacrifice is worth it both sport wise and financially…..Pagan

14th November 2020 at 1:22 pm #170204Much easier to keep IPL teams in a bubble for circa 6 weeks that it would be to keep PL teams in a bubble for nearly 9 months.
Overall Coronavirus cases in the PL have been quite limited helped by what the Club’s and the PL are doing to contain it.
Re Salah he was in Egypt to not only to attend his brother’s wedding but also to play for Egypt v Togo on Saturday. Daily Corona virus cases in Egypt are seemingly quite low v the UK and Salah probably carried the virus with him.

14th November 2020 at 1:53 pm #1702079, yes it is easier, but footy has just gone free for all and we’ll just take your temperature and then test a couple of times a week, their kids and partners are carrying on as normal (as it gets at the moment) they travel all over the country, and then they get to go abroad.
Basically they’re taking less precautions than the average man in the street and we’re meant to be grateful to them that footy is still being played…..Pagan

14th November 2020 at 2:12 pm #170209The ‘Bubble’ can’t be retained because of exposure. Geographically when going to another city in England and to another ground, it’s generally fine as everybody affiliated have been tested (you’d think).
But once travelling beyond and then also factoring Player’s families and what they expose themselves to, then there’s complexities and it spirals out of control.

14th November 2020 at 2:14 pm #1702109, the IPL ran for almost 8 weeks, plus 2 weeks training and 2 weeks isolation at the start, with the teams playing at least every 3 days so broadcasters got a game a day, and for that some of the top players earned what some prem players get a week.
Yes I get football is over 9 months, but they’re not doing anything different to you or I in order to protect themselves, that’s not just players though it’s the 300 or so at each game….Pagan

14th November 2020 at 2:16 pm #170211Nil, there are no bubbles in football and testing doesn’t stop you catching it, it can reduce the spread though….Pagan

14th November 2020 at 3:30 pm #170212Pagan,”Blues’ boss Lampard said of his £36.7million ex-Ajax winger: “It’s been very difficult to integrate him.
“We have a bubble here at Cobham so we can’t play against the Under-23s or bring over a lot of kids to replicate 11 vs 11 games on big-sized pitches, which is generally where you would want someone to be working when they’ve not played for five or six months.
“We miss that and we have to find the right way to give Hakim and others in the squad minutes as quickly as we can.”
Blues’ boss Lampard said of his £36.7million ex-Ajax winger: “It’s been very difficult to integrate him.”
PL Clubs players and those testing positive each week you can almost count on the fingers of one hand.
The Club’s and the PL are doing all they can bar completely isolating the first team squad for almost 9 months which is clearly impractical.
Most PL football fans would be happy that the Coronavirus is being kept to a very minimum level in the PL and no games have had to be cancelled.
Given the very limited number of cases amongst PL players and the limited impact Coronavirus has had on playing PL games it’s difficult to see taking everything into account what could be done to improve the current situation amongst PL players.
This is probably as good as we can get it taking in all of the circumstances and taking more extreme actions isn’t justified given the limited current positive cases amongst PL players.
PL Previous test results
Round 1: 31 Aug-6 Sep – 1,605 tested, with three testing positive.
Round 2: 7-13 Sep – 2,131 tested, with four testing positive.
Round 3: 14-20 Sep – 1,574 tested, with three testing positive.
Round 4: 21-27 Sep – 1,595 tested, with 10 testing positive.
Round 5: 28 Sep-4 Oct – 1,587 tested, with nine testing positive.
Round 6: 5-11 Oct – 1,128 tested, with five testing positive.
Round 7: 12-18 Oct – 1,575 tested, with eight testing positive.
Round 8: 19-25 Oct – 1,609 tested, with two testing positive.
Round 9: 26 Oct-1 Nov – 1,446 tested, with four testing positive._____________________________

14th November 2020 at 4:12 pm #1702169, not sure what Frank’s idea of a bubble is, but having protocols in the work place isn’t a bubble. The fact that they’re vastly more likely to pick up infection away from the club is without doubt, so letting players travel around the world playing footy seems a bit odd…..Pagan

14th November 2020 at 4:18 pm #1702179, those figures aren’t particularly good, in fact far from it, the stats for the general population are done per 100000, if you do the maths then it’s worse than the majority of the country, Leicester went into special measures when they had just over 100 per 100000…..Pagan

14th November 2020 at 4:38 pm #170218Pagan, less than 50 positive tests amongst all the PL players and staff tested from the 31st August to 1st November is probably as good as it gets under current circumstances with no impact on any PL fixtures.
It’s impractical for the PL to follow the way that that the IPL went over a matter of weeks over a period of 9 months in respect of the PL and even if it wasn’t given the limited number of PL players testing positive over the period and the fact that those cases had no impact on PL fixtures not worthwhile either.

14th November 2020 at 4:42 pm #170219I dunno really. I mean from a personal level, I don’t travel outside my standard place of work to another branch – thinking about the effect on household if I was to contract something and thus everybody would need to be tested.
It’s mixing with various members of the public and not wearing masks (though there’s always been mixed views on masks).
You shouldn’t really be socializing in such way and jeopardizing your own personal safety. The obvious good thing coming out of it is that he will be isolating.
I think Ronaldo was reported to have contract Covid twice.
