11th November 2020 at 8:59 pm #170121AnonymousSean, I am now starting to doubt our chances of retaining the title. As for Klopp, oh ya he definitely does not like signing players because of injuries, so really we’ll only buy someone if we were already considering them. otherwise, I think we’ll be loaning.
That guy from Schalke is meant to be great but I haven’t a clue about him. desperation is going to start setting in if we lose anyone else. I mean, you know Matip is going to break down and then we’ll have almost an entire new back line out there… At least Thiago will be back for the Leicester game (or he should be anyway), we could use the lift.
It isn’t just us though, Ake has broken down now.. Look, it’s painfully obvious that this is just too much for players. Something must be done!

12th November 2020 at 7:49 am #170126Sean, probably it will certainly be a bigger challenge this season but Liverpool’s two key strengths are the front 3 now with the addition of Jota and the attacking full backs all the injuries to date bar Van Dijk are short term injuries losing Gomez too to what may be a season long injury is real tough luck. Matip is a very good Centre Back as he showed v City.
If you can keep Matip fit Fabiniho will be back after the international break and the two other lads can step up too so even without buying anyone I think you’ll be Ok.
I still think Liverpool are capable of defending the title.
It’s disappointing for the fans though especially as you had such a great run with injuries last season.

12th November 2020 at 9:01 am #170129AnonymousI don’t think it’s reasonable to expect Matip to remain fit but he did manage half a season a few years back and was superb. Fabinho though, ya we could use him ASAP. I don’t know how long he’s out for but I’m assuming it’s very much a short term injury. Thiago is back in full training and will give the team the much needed boost that it now needs, along with giving us another dimension in our build up play.
Nine, I think it all comes down to whether or not we really were after that lad from Schalke or not. If we were then this will surely be what we needed (besides getting to another transfer window to be able to afford him) to make the move.
Lovren left and wasn’t replaced. Nat Philips wasn’t really wanted by the club quite recently and although he may prove himself to Klopp in the coming matches, I’d say he’s still outside the managers plans. With Matip being the most injury prone player at the club, we have got to replace Lovren. So, maybe this is their plan, all we can do is cringe every time a defender picks up a knock, with one eye on January. Until then I guess, just try not to lose too many games.

12th November 2020 at 9:56 am #170131The difficulties lie at the moment with injuries piling one after the other. That’s essentially where we’re buggered.
The 10 day or so spell away from domestic football buys the Liverpool Management Team time to plan. I can see the possibilities of Milner and Fabinho filling in or, Kostas playing left-back with Robertson moving to central with Matip.
Rather than a front 3, better for us in Mane and Salah dropping deep supporting the 2 midfielders and keep the full-backs disciplined to their natural positions.
We’ve plenty of options midfield providing Keita, Thiago etc can get fit. The forgotten man in Divock Origi π

12th November 2020 at 11:18 am #170133Report in the paper today that Gomez might have a patella tendon injury. If that is a bad one you are looking at months out. If not it is still quite a time out.. I’ll say it again. The most important thing for athletes is not training or performing but rest. But the players are not getting it. Pep and Klopp are right. We are overplaying our star men. This leads to injury and hampers chances for success. Which idiots set down the schedules? Ans: Greedy sods!

12th November 2020 at 11:33 am #170134Ake has a hamstring. Thats at least a month out. Just nonsense. Even the Dutch manager said the friendly v Spain was unnecessary. Just stupid.

12th November 2020 at 11:57 am #170135We have VVD, Trent, Gomez and Ox with no timescale to return. We need to be looking to develop and provide opportunities to the younger players so that they can gain experience and be ready.
TV etc won’t change their ways where there’s money to be made.

12th November 2020 at 1:20 pm #170140Adlab, we all have to prepare for eventualities. I’m sure the club have been smart enough (albeit not signing a center back in the summer) to have a plan in place.
In essence, we need to be able to resist threat from opposition on the pitch; row Z if need be and work through the natural course of the game.
Henderson and Gini or whoever selected need to be able to take ownership not only to lead and drive the attack, but to also protect the back 4. Attacking players for the future dropping a little deep can take a little bit of pressure off when the opposition is threatening.

12th November 2020 at 2:45 pm #170142The Gomez injury allegedly happened when there was no one near him when he passed the ball was there a weakness there? Possibly. Could it have happened in training with Liverpool? Very easily.
Arguably given the condensing of the season it may have been better to shelve these Nations League games this season but players get injured playing football that comes with the territory I got lots of injuries when I was playing and I wasn’t playing at the level of these guys.
We can’t keep blaming the broadcasters you all want to watch your teams and few on here have regularly attended live football and their only connections with their teams on a regular basis has been via the broadcasters even if you’re watching via computer it’s the broadcasters who are providing the pictures that you’re watching on your computer’s.
The alternative is to return to 5 minutes of highlight every Saturday for each Club and no significant TV revenues coming into our Club’s. How many realistically would really want to see that.
Also the broadcasters contribute 10’s of millions of £££’s to the Club’s that fund the players that fans clamour for their Clubs to buy.
Arguably we could do with fewer friendly games at international level but all the top players want to play for their countries and pretty much all fans enjoy the Euro and the World Cup Finals we can’t just pick the bits and pieces of international football we like because loyalty to our Clubs outweighs loyalty to our Countries.

12th November 2020 at 2:57 pm #170143Nil, nobody could have foreseen losing both first choice Centre Back to long term injuries but selling Lovren and not replacing him leaving Klopp only 3 recognised Centre Backs to call upon one of which in Matip though a very good player is also very injury prone indeed Gomez himself has suffered with injuries on a regular basis.
With a bit of luck Klopp could have got away with it but unfortunately for him and Liverpool he hasn’t and I suspect if Klopp had his time again he would have taken a different decision in the Summer transfer window.
Klopp has got two choices now either go into the transfer market and bring in a Centre Back either on loan or by purchasing one or stick with what he’s got wrap Matip in cotton wall and hope it’s enough to take him to the end of the season and it doesn’t damage Liverpool’s chances of retaining the title as it did with City last season. Time will tell.

12th November 2020 at 3:08 pm #170145Exactly nine . We just have to get on with it. We are conceding goals in anyway so we really need all our attacking players on fire.
Thiago hopefully back aswell and we really need keita to start stepping up
Qe have an excellent squad just at the back we are short a bit now
Milner might fill in at right full or young neco willians (who is very raw) will get a chance
Huge chance for nat Philips and Rhys willians aswell

12th November 2020 at 3:19 pm #170146I think Liverpool have got off to a good start, something they are capable of hanging on to despite injuries. All other teams will have injuries as well, so nothing is clear cut yet but Liverpool and City should improve on there below par performances to date, I cannot see either getting worse. City need to be better in final third, I am not banking on Augerro being fit enough to last the season

12th November 2020 at 4:27 pm #170151Sean for the record we had Mendy, Cancelo, Zinchenco out for long periods as well as Laporte in addition to not replacing Kompany. But although they were not out for the season it did make a big difference

12th November 2020 at 5:03 pm #170152Cancelo hardly played when fit adlab. Heβs it coming good now.
Mendy is a disaster of a left full
Hardly big major players. We are missing our most common centre bsck pairing for the season . agree about Laporte but city had 90 m worth of defenders they could call on
Remember Stones who couldnβt be trusted so a midfielder was playing there. Fabhino plays there as we have no one else
Alison has missed a number of games which really effected us. Fabhino out aswell. Thiago aswell. All 1st team starters. Itβs the worst injury crisis we have had in years and it will be remarkable if we win the league.
No excuses from me. It is what it is but no way are we favourites now.
We still have a good enough squad to compete but we need to get to jan still in the race
