But Pagan, isn’t there a duty of care to the players? Of course, the big clubs are still able to field a team and include many world class players in their teams, but surely everybody wants to protect them from injuries in order that we can see them play as much as possible without causing said injuries

10th November 2020 at 12:44 pm #170031To be honest I donβt care either way about the number of substitutes, it was Maks attitude that made me disagree with going to 5, chuff me, they win the prem once and itβs βwere a big club nowβ letβs knife the so called smaller teams…..Pagan

10th November 2020 at 1:59 pm #170033Just on the topic of young or squad players being given a chance, what are City fans thoughts on Foden this season? Seems to be getting a few more games. Should Pep have played him vs Liverpool?

10th November 2020 at 3:17 pm #170035Mikus. re Foden. he is an exceptional talent and has benefited being around experienced players who are also helping him.Not an automatic choice yet but he will be by the end of the season. Pep has done a good job nursing him through various levels, it is up to him now if he can develop it further. I think he will do. He is not the next David Silva, he is Phil Foden with his own style. and energies

10th November 2020 at 3:28 pm #170037Nothing will happen to change 3 substitutes to 5 substitutes without there is another vote and there’s been two already.
However if it was to be voted on again all 20 Clubs would have a vote and the top 6 can’t rail road anything through without 14 PL Clubs vote in favour of it.
Based on what’s been said today about 5 substitutes, it doesn’t sound like there will be another vote or even if there was 14 Clubs would vote in favour of it. Which just about puts a lid on it all.π

10th November 2020 at 3:34 pm #170038I know longer care about if it is 2/3/5…it will finish up 10 when the “Big picture” kicks in
The many changes we have had over the last few years including the pay TV debacle just confirms to me it is less about the game we all love but more to do with generating money to keep not only clubs but organisations, media and betting companies in business. The fans are not even a consideration. PutAldi/B=M in charge of club shops then you can have shirts for Β£20 or less. I think when CV-19 is over and fans allowed back, there will be a honeymoon period for attendance but I think they will drop off sharply due to costs attending matches Like with cricket, I then revert to watching local teams_____________________________

10th November 2020 at 3:37 pm #170039Hightown..you are right…like any other business, there is a duty of care requirement, no grey area’s to this…it is applicable to all employers

10th November 2020 at 3:41 pm #170040Nine…the Big picture will change it and I doubt if there will be a veto in operation. The Big Picture. agree or not, are and will spend millions to make it happen. The FA EPL are dead ducks now

10th November 2020 at 3:43 pm #170041Brian, as you say the duty of care is with the employers, that said then HH is wrong, Iβm prepared to stand corrected on this but donβt the clubs employ the players, therefore the duty of care is with them…..Pagan

10th November 2020 at 5:10 pm #170048Re the “Big Picture” currently it’s fallen by the wayside and a new proposal is to be worked on broader than the big 6 also the European Super League is a pan European Club strategy and none of the Club’s discussing a European Super League are looking to replace their home based Leagues even the “Big Picture” wasn’t advocating that.
The CL ultimately might be in potential jeopardy from the European Super League but not imo any time soon.
Also I don’t think there is any appetite amongst football fans not just in England but across Europe as a whole to see their teams involvement in a European Super League at the expense of competing in their domestic Leagues. And we’ve seen how important match going fans are to football over the last few months.

10th November 2020 at 8:14 pm #170050Five subs suits the clubs with big squads who play in all competitions.
Is it a good idea? Probably in the current climate. I would introduce but for this season only.
Those who object? I can understand why. If we have to rest KDB and Laporte v Sheffield, it is better for Sheffield. Having said that even the are paid an obscene amount they are still human not supermen and overplaying will cause injury and thats not right._____________________________

10th November 2020 at 8:27 pm #170051My point though Maverick is the fans do not have any say in what the future will bring, yes , they can boycott but the game will rumble on and I do think it will start to happen sooner rather than later, maybe , as early as next season. What this pandemic as shown is football can work without fans, I know that is a daft thing to say, but just think about it a little from a different perspective. Of course it will not happen that way but it is not that radical either
Clubs will still get sponsors, shirt sales although mostly out of the country TV money etc. I am doing thinking “out of the box”, the American way. having worked for two American major companies, they, have marketing to an art form, the product is secondary to the return.Depressing thought for real fans of the game but we are to wake up to reality soon
I do not like being all doom and gloom on this subject and sincerely hope somebody, somehow gives us our game back before its too late_____________________________
