Not posted for a while, but thought I’d give my two pennyworth on yesterday’s game. I think a draw was a fair result, and I must admit, I was willing the ref to blow for full time from about 80 minutes as there was no way we were going to score in the latter stages. I thought the first half was just a fantastic game of football, despite once again VAR doing it’s best to make a farce of our game. Liverpool came out of the blocks at 100mph and thoroughly deserved their lead, but City clung on in there and scored a brilliant goal and probably just about deserved to go in level at half time. The 2nd half was much more cagey, though Jesus should really have scored with his header, but I think for the last 20 minutes both teams pretty much settled for the point.
VAR? What can one say? It’s been done to death, and I am conscious that because it went against my team it may seem like sour grapes, but it’s just not right that penalties are given for situations like that. I literally haven’t heard anyone say it is right, so why the f*** don’t the law makers do something about it? As Liverpool fans we used to give one of our worst defenders in living memory, Alberto Moreno, stick for defending with his hands behind his back. Perhaps we were wrong and he was ahead of his time! It’s farcical.
From a Liverpool point of view I thought Matip was excellent for his first game in a month, and I thought in the first half Gini and Hendo did the work of four men in midfield. I was relieved that Allison was in nets rather than Adrian and overall I thought our defence coped really well with City, considering how porous we have been this year. Concerned about losing Trent for a while though.
As for Bobby, well the bell is beginning to toll for him, I fear. He just looks so short of confidence, and for the first time is not playing with a smile on his face. He has always been my favourite player, but I think he is now undoubtedly No. 4 striker. He just needs some goals and maybe his confidence and therefore all round game will improve again.
But all in all, a fair result and one that still leaves both sides within reach of each other and the top of the table. Sorry it’s a bit of a lengthy post, but I’m crap at posting during the match (don”t know how you all do it!), so I have to put it all in one post after the game.
Hope everyone’s well, especially my City friend, Gary. Hope to see you soon, my friend!

9th November 2020 at 11:21 am #169984Yeah 2 big games coming up for Spurs. Home to City and away to Chelsea. If I was a betting man, I’d say they’ll be looking at 2 points from those games. Any more than that would be a big statement

9th November 2020 at 11:24 am #169985Like everyone else I don’t like to see penalties given like the one against Gomez yesterday but it’s down to the rule change on handball and not VAR which leaves the officials including the VAR nowhere to go when it happens other than to award a penalty.

9th November 2020 at 12:25 pm #169986That’s why I’ve no problem with the handball and pen nine mate
It’s the rules but it’s silly.
We got a ridiculous one 1st day of the season v Leeds before they changed the rule
My problem with var is it’s ruining the game as a spectacle
I’d rather go back to the refs making the decisions themselves
Seems to be much more discussions every week now then there was in the past.

9th November 2020 at 1:21 pm #169987Sean, luckily for us, all that took place in the first half approaching half-time. How vital was that for KDB to put it wide? Had that even have been an Allison parry, Sterling would have netted the rebound.
In the rain, we would be forced to take the game to them, and possibly we might have experience a reckless moment that could have then given City a 3-1 lead.
Klopp had time during the break to process this and then be allowed to play more conservative and passive which suited us and in the end, we earned a good result.
Considering the teams we have had to play, the Van Dijk and Allison injuries and carrying the weight for the first time in decades in being defending champions, we’ve come well and in a healthy position as far as the League Table goes.

9th November 2020 at 1:52 pm #169988The term “natural silhouette” is itself subjective, particularly when a player is running with his arms moving around. So it’s a nonsense term dreamt up by a bureaucrat. But if a players arm is coming up as a ball is played in, most referees will feel they have to give it, like the Gomez incident. Indeed the nature of the new rules assume everyone is guilty rather than innocent until proven guilty. So it’s effectively treating all players with contempt. The reaction will keep building to this, and the biggest farce in all of this – is that if you tweak the rules to allow more context to be used when making decisions – you actually end up back to where we were before the new rules came in where a referee judges whether it’s deliberate or not. So we will have gone full circle.

9th November 2020 at 3:36 pm #169991Sean…it is going to get worse because our inept law makers are looking for ways to bring more of this junk/change in. Non contact will be next on the agenda. Maybe only allowing 6 players in the box on corners…for “elf” and safety” reasons!!!! I also think some players could audition for Strictly come dancing or Macbeth

9th November 2020 at 4:03 pm #169992The laws of the game will change to justify the use of VAR, in order for it to work it needs to judge yes or no scenarios, it will judge a snapshot in time and won’t factor in the need for arms to move away from the body in order to maintain balance, spin on the ball etc. it’s as we’re seeing with hand ball, did it make contact….Pagan

9th November 2020 at 4:15 pm #169993But this season of all seasons with so many topsy turvy results you can’t completely rule out an outsider or two coming through to challenge for the title and Spurs with Mourinho at the helm look a realistic potential title challenger to me. You dont mean United, right?Lol

9th November 2020 at 4:17 pm #169994Mak-January is just around the corner, and Liverpool will do some business there.Because of the virus, there will be tons of players available,in fact, there are teams desperate to sell,so I trust Klopp to do some very shrewd business in January.

9th November 2020 at 4:19 pm #169995Pagan, alas, that is indeed the mentality that VAR is breeding. All those years people cried out for technology to come in. They should have been careful what they wished for. Pandora’s box well and truly opened. Can’t see how they close it now.

9th November 2020 at 4:26 pm #169996Some good posts. Good to have your posts HH, even though we dont always agree!
I dont like this handball rule but its there. I dont like being offside by pointing. But its there.
If we are all around long enough we’ll probably get used to it but there are too many penalties for nothing including ludicrous dives. These guys are strong and go over like fairies….hate it….from all teams.
I think the league is more open mainly due to the odd circumstances of no crowd.
Its not the same and lacks a lot for me but its what we have._____________________________

9th November 2020 at 6:25 pm #170000Mav@4:15pm I think United are in a false League position versus the strength of their team/squad and they will be a lot closer to the top than the bottom come the end of the season. Cheers 9’s

9th November 2020 at 6:44 pm #170001KDB ALWAYS puts in 100%. To suggest he doesnt turn up for big matches is truly utter nonsense. That would bracket him with Pogba.
He didnt have a great game on Sunday…OK. But that sort of comment can only come from…well?_____________________________

9th November 2020 at 7:21 pm #170002Players like KDB put in 100% in every game, in big games the players are more likely to be cat or close to his level and those that are not raise their game so his contribution doesn’t stand out as much…..Pagan

9th November 2020 at 7:30 pm #170003AnonymousA good post HH, I pretty much agree with all of it. I am worried for Firmino but also, sections of fans are turning on him, calling him useless etc etc… Ya, we all know what we think of that but I agree, he is fighting for his place in the team now.
How do I post during matches? I have 2 monitors and will generally say something in lulls of play but I shouldnt alright cause you still miss stuff.
The handball rules have got to go. I think that since they are ruining games everywhere, people know it’s not sour grapes. I’ve seen it ruin and have been upset about it ruining non Liverpool matches too, like most on here I think. I am also not in favour of how they implement the offsides, although they are usually closer to at least being “correct” but of course, what is being very slightly more correct if it is destroying the game as a spectacle? I was mostly in favour of VAR but this implementation is so disastrous that they might convince me to changing my mind on it. Maybe that’s the goal all along? who knows.
