Players don’t help Referees by completely over exaggerating any contact if these penalty decisions were reviewed by a panel of experts made up of players and officials on a Monday and if they were found guilty of trying to con the Referee and given a retrospective red card and ban such incidents would reduce dramatically.
A quick word in the Referees ear from the VAR at the time advising him to go and look at the pitch side monitor it would help to eliminate diving and potentially questionable penalties too.

1st November 2020 at 3:05 pm #169490Another 7 goals at Villa Park seems like Sky chose the wrong 2pm match in Newcastle v Everton.

1st November 2020 at 3:23 pm #169491Newcastle take the lead at St James’ Park.
Only 6 points separating Top Spot to 12th place. What an open league.

Agreed but on the other side of that coin are the times players are clearly fouled but try to play on and are then not awarded the penalty. I can’t remember what matches this happened in but I know Salah has tried to carry on from a foul, only to not be awarded the penalty. There was a pretty big example some time ago now, I just have an awful memory. I guess if VAR were implemented correctly, these scenarios would have some chance of correction but it’s not.
I am in favour of what you said about retro-actively punishing players who’s conned the ref and have asked for similar over the years. They don’t see this as a priority though, which is madness but Every discussion related to any of this really just gives me the impression that the bodies in charge are either not interested nor able to do their jobs and should all be disbanded and replaced.
i really do believe that people like us and others would do a better job of it and no, I’m not saying it’s easy but they are messing it up so monumentally, it would be difficult to do a worse job. I don’t want to go any further down that rabbit hole though, we have good football to talk about.

1st November 2020 at 3:54 pm #1694959, itβs too late to review the decisions on Monday if theyβve already been reviewed at the time. VAR was meant to sort out exaggeration, instead it encourages it…..Pagan

1st November 2020 at 4:26 pm #169497Pagan, my point was reviewing a player involved in exaggeration and making exaggeration a retrospective red card a few months of that I suspect would cause such incidents to dwindle.
I put forward that the VAR should get involved in such incidents on the day by asking the Referee to have another look at the pichside monitor if they suspect there was over exaggeration which is the second point I made in my post.

1st November 2020 at 4:28 pm #169499AnonymousNike, been a bit doom and gloom around here from what ive read with your lot. Yet there you are playing ok top of the league.
Got to say, I worry about keeping silva fit for us, we look very assured when he plays and have second best goal difference. Quietly pleased with chelsea’s start tbh… More of the same and confidence will grow.
Im hoping wolves and Southampton among others can keep taking points, will make for an exciting title race.

1st November 2020 at 4:32 pm #169500How weird is it that after Villa put 7 past Liverpool at home they’ve conceded 7 in their last 2 home games to Leeds and Southampton.

1st November 2020 at 4:41 pm #169501442, I genuinely love it from Liverpool’s POV and a Neutral POV that teams can take points off each other and matches played out are unpredictable.
Not so easy these days to call it on Paper.
Cheers

1st November 2020 at 4:41 pm #1695029, I thought that VAR was there to correct refereeing errors, that was the point of it. You canβt keep reviewing reviews.
As for making it a red card offence, Iβm not sure as itβs too subjective, for me simulation, no contact should be a straight red and should be an easy enough decision with VAR. Simulation, maybe a warning that carries through a season, once you hit x then thereβs a punishment as itβs a behaviour issue…Pagan

1st November 2020 at 5:03 pm #169503Pagan, your second para would be a step in the right direction but neither will happen.
“All goals scored in the Premier League will automatically be checked by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).
They will check for any infringements by the attacking team in the attacking possession phase that led to the goal.
For factual decisions such as offside or the ball being out of play, the VAR will inform the referee, who will overturn any award of a goal.
For subjective decisions such as a foul or a handball, VAR can be used to overturn if a βclear and obvious errorβ has been identified.
The referee will explain his decision to the VAR and what he has seen.
If the evidence provided by the broadcast footage does not accord with what the referee believes he has seen, then the VAR can recommend an overturn.
The final decision will remain with the on-field referee.”
If the VAR feels there has been an attempt to con the Referee into giving a penalty I think it would be a good idea for the VAR to refer the Referee to the pichside monitor this would give the Referee a bit more time as well as a chance to review the incident and decide whether a penalty should or should not been given.

1st November 2020 at 5:07 pm #169504Nil,in terms of Liverpool’s competitors for the title you need to focus on City first and foremost and then the most likely outsiders anyone else is largely irrelevant to Liverpool. Very unlikely we’ll see another Leicester in the near future.π

1st November 2020 at 5:26 pm #169507Adlab=Actually,it looked as only a matter of time b4 Arse were gonna score.United kept losing the ball easy/giving it away in their half, and only for Arse players not taking their chances its still 0-0.Pogba as usual, doesnt give a fook.
