25th October 2020 at 1:14 pm #169104“Holding goes on head locks don’t go on it’s a penalty there’s a monitor to look at if the Referee goes to the monitor it’s a penalty.” Frank Lampard
Every single pundit on both Sky and MOTD agreed it was a penalty for Chelsea even Patrice Evra whose a self confessed United fan, as do former Referees.
“Sky Sports pundit Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink believes the visitors should have been awarded a penalty in the first half.
“It’s 100% (a penalty) because what is Maguire doing?” He said.
“If you see it Maguire is just strangling Cesar Azpilicueta! He stops him from jumping, he’s putting his weight on his shoulders.”
Patrice Evra added: “I used to watch wrestling and even Hulk Hogan would do this kind of move.
“This is a clear penalty that’s why VAR, again we can talk all day about that but this is a clear penalty to Chelsea.”
It’s not even debatable!

25th October 2020 at 1:20 pm #169107Ed, thanks for pointing that I thought VAR always put the decisions up to view the fact that they didn’t misled me but the fact they reviewed it and didn’t ask Atkinson to review the pitchside monitor actually makes it even worse imo.
Appreciate your fair summary of it though.
Feel much better today than I did after last season’s game at OT.π

25th October 2020 at 1:34 pm #169109Sky Sports and BT Sport’s want to end current Pay per View.
βIt is damaging the reputation of Sky Sports to be linked to this scheme – and that feeling is shared at BT.
βEveryone here would prefer for it to stop.β
The Sky Sports Box Office platform show the additional live games but the company are reluctant to promote the games – as they do with their own exclusive packages.
Next weekend are the last games currently to be scheduled PL yet to comment.

25th October 2020 at 1:50 pm #1691129, of course they donβt want to promote the PPV games against their own packages, if theyβre doing PPV for cost as youβve said previously, whereβs the incentive to?….Pagan

25th October 2020 at 2:03 pm #169113I do hope the joining forces will give the PL something to think about.
There are packages already in place that deliver football broadcasting. There’s nothing in relation to value for money paying for just ‘a’ game.
They should scrap the pay per view and try and encourage people to subscribe.

25th October 2020 at 2:47 pm #169116I don’t think that’s the reason Pagan the broadcasters were never on side with ppv it was driven by the PL Clubs who voted 19/1 in favour of it.
The broadcasters don’t like the negativity that comes from it which they believe rubs off on their own brands.
Be interesting to see what happens after next weekends round of games and if the PL wants to continue with it .
New ppv games have yet to be announced if the PL wants to continue with it I guess that’s what will happen maybe a review of the cost of it might settle things down somewhat, time will tell.

25th October 2020 at 2:53 pm #1691189, I think the broadcasters realise weβre at saturation point already, people will only watch so much and a drop in viewing figures for their exclusive games may make those paying for advertisements question the fees….Pagan

25th October 2020 at 2:59 pm #169119Nine….what I cannot understand is why the Ref even wanted a Monitor to help him with the Maguire incident. Plain as plain could ever be and if Refs miss things like this they should not be refereeing. As to VAR, I once said. VAR is OK its the humans who are the weakest link so what is the point? It smacks of potential colusion as well, matches controlled by individuals sitting comfortably somewhere

25th October 2020 at 3:05 pm #169120PPV is obscene, OK if you can afford it or you can take out of the family budget each game so the wise move would be to get 3/4 buddies in to watch the match and share costs….but wait…we can no longer do that can we!!! It will expand and the fans will pay, the broadcasters know that but cannot see it happening before crowds return

25th October 2020 at 3:08 pm #169122I agree Brian Atkinson’s only excuse would be he was unsighted which tbh is a possibility which is where VAR should comes in and suggest he has a look at the pitch side monitor which started to happen at the beginning of the season but for some reason isn’t happening now.
Nothing wrong with VAR in this situation as you rightly say it was just human error by Atwell etc..

25th October 2020 at 3:16 pm #169123I spent a large slice of my career in Advertising Pagan and I wouldn’t have been approving any media schedules for the ppv games the viewing figures for the vast majority will be minimal at best.
Brighton v West Brom is Monday nights ppv game and I dread to think of the viewing figures they will get for that. Even when the non scheduled TV games were being screened free of charge the majority of fans other than their own Clubs games would have been very selective as to which games to watch.

25th October 2020 at 3:22 pm #169125Nine…just as a matter of interest I tuned into a Freeview site showing the MLS league in the USA…the game there is improving but I would not pay to watch it either, on TV or attendance.
They are developing the art of falling down in a different way_____________________________

25th October 2020 at 3:25 pm #1691269, I was more alluding to the fact that if you watch a PPV game then you may not then watch the scheduled TV game and audience figures are what the advertisers look at, and if these start to drop theyβre not going to be best pleased…..Pagan

25th October 2020 at 3:26 pm #169127“A Sky source told the Mirror that PPV games were ruining both theirs and BT’s reputations.
They said: “Sky is not happy to be involved in showing the pay-per-view games. We never thought it was a good idea and nothing’s changed since it started.
“It is damaging the reputation of Sky Sports to be linked to this scheme β and that feeling is shared at BT. Everyone here would prefer for it to stop.”
Over to the PL??????

25th October 2020 at 3:27 pm #169128In regards to the Maguire incident, yes it was a clear penalty, my only concern is that holding in the area at set pieces becomes the next hot topic for VAR…..Pagan

25th October 2020 at 3:29 pm #169129You’re right Pagan there is a danger of over saturation but not too many will turn their backs too often imo on the games they’ve already subscribed too at significant cost to themselves.

25th October 2020 at 3:34 pm #169130Sky over the last couple of years or so restructured their overall Sports Package and Categorize those so that they were tailored to the viewer.
Box Office should allow you multi-events than to have pay for each separate event; e.g. Football, Boxing.
These should just all drop into the Sky Sports Main Event Channel whereby you then stand a better chance of attracting and keeping hold of new subsribers.
