27th October 2020 at 7:54 pm #169198He didn’t win anything in his last 2 seasons with utd mikius.
To win a major trophy with spurs would surpass anything has ever done but the argument had always been…. would jose succeed at a club who is not a major powerhouse with 100s of millions to spend
His spell at spurs will tell us.

Sean I’d argue that question has been answered years ago where Jose is concerned. To have not only won titles with the big clubs he’s managed, but also win the CL with not one but two unfancied clubs in Porto and Inter was massive. The only question that remains is whether he’s still capable of that kind of overachievement.
Jose probably won’t come anywhere near winning the league this season but I’m much more worried about Spurs now he’s there than I was when Poch was there, that’s for sure.

27th October 2020 at 8:40 pm #169201For some reason Guardiola has never been questioned the same way as José.
That always mad me wonder. José won the CL with Porto. And with Inter in the days of peak Barcelona. He took the challenge of post SAF United and won titles. Not the PL, but still titles. He actually had a similar win percentage at United as the one he had during his second spell at Chelsea that resulted in yet another PL win.
Guardiola on the other hand never did anything like that. He actually haven’t won the CL for nearly a decade. And he had the talent and money of Bayern and the talent of Man City and the money of the UAE to his disposal.
I’m sure Spurs will win something with Mourinho.

27th October 2020 at 8:42 pm #169202Ah I don’t reakky think so Ed. Porto are one of the biggest if not biggest club in Portugal who had an array of players who got to the European cup final with Portugal in 2004.porto won the UEFA cup in 2003. They had the likes of deco, ferrera, carvalhio, bia etc Inter Milan another absolutely massive club and one of the top 3 teams in Italy. Inter win the league 5 times in a row from 06-10
Spurs haven’t won a massive massive trophy since 61.
To
Win the cl with spurs would surpass all that in my view bigtime. No doubting he’s one of the greatest managers the game has seen.

27th October 2020 at 8:49 pm #169205Neither Porto or Inter have done anything in the CL pre or post Mourinho though. Well, unless we’re going back to 1965 in Inter’s case. Big clubs, yes, but minnows in comparison to the teams they were up against in the competition.
Those Porto players you mentioned, nobody had a clue who they were until he made them European champions. Not quite up there with Pep taking on the (already) superstars at Barca, Bayern or City.

27th October 2020 at 9:04 pm #169213And as for Mourinho winning with Porto, let’s not forget that while Porto May be one of the two biggest clubs in Portugal, they never have been able to buy worldclass players. They had to create them from their own ranks, scout South American talents or raid the smalle clubs in Portugal.
Compare that to Milan of 2004 who had Shevchenko, Cafu, Pirlo, Gattuso, Kaka, Rui Costa, Nesta, Stam, etc. Worldclass talent from all over the world. You could You also had the Galacticos of Real Madrid, United with SAF and so on. Those clubs didn’t have the same “natural” restrictions and barriere as Porto.
No matter how you cut it winning the CL with Porto was a highly unlikely, massive bollocks performance._____________________________

27th October 2020 at 9:12 pm #169218Liverpool are right now having trouble breaking down a side who has the name of their club written on their crest in Times New Roman.
That can’t be a good thing._____________________________
